Help me wait for D3 :)

Yep, I am bored at the moment and would like a game that will occupie all the time I have to spare.

I love grinding for Items just like in Diablo, single playing on multi just to farm Items and get better. I love the item generator with Prefix and Suffix.

I also love things like Fallout, Borderlands, and good old Might & Magic, Wizardry 8 etc...

I went on GoG and got the M&M pack, I have also downloaded Eschalon demo and Risen Demo. I would love suggestions on those 3 categories please:

Action RPG with good Item generator (Diablo):

Sandbox open world RPG (Oblivion serie, Fallout 3):

Turn based (Might and Magic Serie):

Thanx for the help

Best thing you can do is just forget about it! :) I am starting to just completely forget about researching new games and waiting until one gets a good review before I look into them. It will work great that way. You won't be waiting, you will save money, and you won't be disappointed time and time again with all of the ridiculous attempts at making a game these days.

For me, i'm going to be playing my collection until the next game comes out. It is time to face the fact that we can't be spoiled rotten like we were back in the day when games were coming out left and right. We are going to have to cherish what we have, because we don't have much to choose from anymore. Kind of like the music industry! :)

  • Have you tried Torchlight? It's an absolute blatant Diablo clone, but a very good one with its own innovations. No multiplayer, though (at least not last I played).

I have seen it constantly, but I ignored it because of the numerous failures I have experienced and the number of terrible games showing up on steam. I will check it out sometime.

There's a free demo on Steam and I think on the game's website if you want to give it a try before purchase. Also, because the game is singleplayer there are alot of mods out for it (I mostly just use the respec mod).

Yeah Torchlight, I do have that one but, cant find my registration code. I have sent an email with my Paypal receipt yesterday so, I should get it back this week and give it a real try.

I know good games are hard to come by, GoG.com is nice cause I can get for cheap old games that I love but, I would also like something new and refreshing.

How are Sacred 2, Titan quest ?

  • Titan Quest I hear really good things about. I actually own it as a freebie from something I bought on Steam but haven't tried it yet. Sacred 2 I can't comment, never tried it. I think I played part of the first one, if that's the one with the dwarf and angel and vampire etc. player characters. I have a Gametap subscription so sometimes I try some wierd things on there.

I also enjoyed the original Dungen Siege, though I don't know if the sequel was as good.

I will look out for a demo of Titan Quest, could be a good alternative to Diablo, that or/and Torchlight.

Still looking for a Sandbox/Open World, Maybe Risen ? And something in the turn base family like The M&M :)

    Any other suggestion ?

Torchight is the only good replacement for Diablo. I think I have over 120 hours played and I'm still playing it.

There are a lot of games out there that are simply not for me. I can play almost any genre but RPG is what will keep my interest.

Not that I dont like MMORPG but, what is the point of playing and paying for a MMORPG when I always or almost always solo. The ideal RPG for me would be like Ultima Online for the way you develop your character (Classless and can change whenever you want), Diablo item generation (suffix prefix), vast open world with crafting that mean something. Storyline also is important but, I could do with a medium storyline if I could get all of the other stuff.

I will give Risen a try, got a Demo for it.

So far, I really love Titan Quest and Risen looks to be a winner too. Still no emails from Torchlight.

Thanx for inputs and if anyone have other ideas or know of my ideal game (described in a previous post), let me know :)

If you're enjoying Titan Quest i'd suggest trying out Dungeon Seige 2 also. I bought both of them a couple of years back and enjoyed them equally.

I only skimmed the thread briefly so apologies if it's already been mentioned... but once you've played through Titan Quest do yourself a favour and have a look into the mods for it, there are some very good ones out there.

I would use them to pass some time while i wait for something decent to release but i played them to death when i got them :)

I wouldn't recommend Sacred 2, it's 'OK' but not in the same league as the two mentioned above and especially not when compared against the old ones like Diablo and Baldurs gate. Plus it's pretty much unsupported now, they released a couple of patches at the start then had the gall to release an expansion. Now it's all player made patches to fix what Ascaron/Deepsilver didn't.

Edit - Something just struck me after i typed this post. When i think of Ambience and just the feel of the worlds i often think back to many games of this type rather than the normal single player RPG games or even MMOs. No doubt one of the reasons why i like the type of game.

Well, i just bought Kings Bounty and Kings Bounty : Crossroads, its actually quite nice compared to my expectations, its like Heroes of Might And Magic, just without turns.

There is hours and hours of fun to experience there.

I did not liked the Heroes of Might and Magic, well maybe the first and second but, I lost interest fast. I am talking about the Might&Magic RPG (Secret of the inner sanctum, Gates to another world, Iles of Terra, Cloud of Xeen and Darkside of Xeen (world of xeen), Mandate of Heaven).

Kabaal, thanx I will have a look at dungeon siege 2. I know what you mean. Even thought it is not has sophisticated has other RPG, Hack & Slash have a warmth feeling. I often have the music that you have in town in Diablo playing in my head... I also ear gold, armor, scroll, weapons or potions drop :) . While writting this, I have the harrassing sound scavengers do when attacking lol.

In my opinion, Titan's Quest is probably the best of the bunch, as far as similar games goes. While it doesn't have the randomized maps that Diablo does, the multiple class system more than makes up for that. There seemed like an endless possiblities of character builds in that game.

That is exactly my problem at the moment, dont know what to play, too many choices lol

For single player I'd recommend DAO, fun game, for MMO I'd throw out Vanguard or EQ2 or something of that sort.

I can't wait for Diablo III! The fact we can pick our gender is reason enough to buy the game. I hated that I was locked into playing 3 classes in Diablo II because they were the only females.

Too Human on Xbox360 isn't too bad. Think sci-fi Diablo.

How many characters are there now on Diablo 3? I hope they finally release it this coming 2011. I'm so excited about it. Barbarian FTW! ^^

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II

    James Bond 007: Blood Stone

Out of those 5, the one I am looking for the most is Fallout: New Vegas. Fable never hooked me, never played any Gothic and would try this one if it worth it, did not play Spellforce, love Star Wars movie but, never got attracted by the games and James Bond well, need to look into it :)

I am having fun with Titan Quest at the moment, not far enough to see if it got the suffix/Prefix item generator tho. I also have to give a bit more time to Risen and finallt got an email back from Runic so, with my registration recovered, have to look at Torchlight and see what of the original Diablo magic it has.

About Gothic 4, I would not recommend it. I played the demo, and god, the character advancement system is even worst than the DA:O one. It is the most dumb I have seen for years. Come on, even a 10 years old kid would do a deeper one in a week. Also, the combats are far less challenging than the ones in the previous Gothic games. To be honnest, that game doesn't seem to deserve its name (Gothic series).

From the old hack & slash games, I would recommend you Dungeon Siege 2 first, then Titan Quest - this is highly subjective, both are very good pure hack & slash games, with a strong character advancement system, lot of loots (prefix, suffix) and nice maps.

Sacred 2 is a pretty good hask & slash as well, and it is much more of an open world than the previous two (one single big map actually). Unfortunately, it is less good on the loot thing (droping issue) and you may end up being frustrated on that side. It has a pretty strong quest system, most of them being optional however. Finally the character advancement system is as strong as the other two games, but a bit cryptic (lack of descriptions, or even wrong ones).

Edit: instead of Gothic 4, I would recommend Risen. It is a clone of the other Gothic games (developed by the same team actually) and thus the character advancement system is much deeper than Gothic 4. Unfortunately, it happens they made a big mistake about the class design, as there is no reason to play something else than a ... (I don't want to spoil your game, send me a pm if you need information). Pretty stupid game design decision if you ask me. The replayability is then strictly equal to zero - unless you absolutely want to do the (very) few class specific quests. You won't get the loot system you like, but you will have an open world, challenging fights and a (optional) crafting system.

    Edit2: removed spoiling info.
