A question to the people who intend to play SW:TOR [poll]

I was wondering how the demographics are on this site regarding the gamers that intend to play SW:TOR.

A second question is if those of you that intend to play SW:TOR also played SWG or KOTOR before.

Also, I was wondering, are there MMO gamers around here that aren't that much into Star Wars but still intend to give SW:TOR a try?

It being a bioware mmo with single player RPG story elements is why I want this game way more than that it is a star wars mmo.

To be honest if it was a star wars mmo being developed by someone other than Bioware i probably would have no interest in the game. If i wanted another Story less mmo there would be no reason to go to it as The VO/Story is the main part of this mmo and the main reason why i'm going to buy this game.

Star Wars has a very broad appeal. This poll will only reflect the people on this site however, I dont think it will really show what age groups will be playing the game.

Ah yes, I know, I don't consider the poll to be representative to all the potential players out there that might be considering playing SW:TOR, after all, most people don't even visit sites like these for their information, not even most of the MMORPG gamers. I've been playing MMORPG's for years and years, and merely visited this site since half a year or so.

@Segyn: to me, it's also the combination of Bioware + Star Wars, plus the different approach they're going about it, since I felt the same as the BW (and ANet) devs, namely that questing had gotten bland and repetitive and less and less story immersive. So we'll see image

I've played both KOTOR (brilliant) and SWG (pre-NGE, didn't care for it,) and I intend to play SWTOR. I think that, overall, it is shaping up to be a very solid game experience meaning I will have fun, I will enjoy rthe story and I think it'll be worth the box price at least even if it doesn't have those sandbox elements that people on this site seem to crave.

Not really my cup of tea but I'll surely give it a go.

28 here.  I am also a huge star wars nut, and I am looking forward to this game.

Wow clone or not, at least let the game be exciting and fun.  Something that holds your attention.

I find myself /yawning alot right now in FF14. FF14 is a beautiful game, but really having trouble finding anything fun to do inbetween the guild leves. Mining is boring, been looking around at how I can train up some other skills, but everything seems to be a hassle.  That may be a good thing or a bad thing. I guess they don't hold your hand, but whatever.

As far as the community on the forums goes. Every forum has trolls and people that make you sick. So what is your point? That's pretty much who all hangs out on forums 24/7 ppl with no lives and nothing better to do.

    I also played swg.

I'm in the 35+ group.  I've seen all the movies and as a kid I owned a few Star Wars figures but outside of those things wouldn't say i'm a huge Star Wars fan per se.  Personally I'm a lot more interested in this game because of Bioware than I am the ip.  Never played the KOTOR games but I did tinker around with SWG a bit.

The company making the game and the fact that as much as I have enjoyed them I am getting a bit tired of the same old fantasy theme in a lot of mmos are the reason I'm curious about this game.

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

    3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

Same for me. I've done the fantasy setting to death and eagerly awaiting a good sci-fi world.

Im 42, saw A New Hope in the theater the weekend after it was released and was in awe..

I played SWG, and was an original beta tester (the "second shuttle" they called it) it was ok, but there was a reason why it went through the changes it did. They obviously went way overboard.

I plan to try KotoR as of now, but so far I have been pretty unimpressed with what i have seen so far. Theres still a lot to be announced obviously, and I hold out hope. As of right now however, I don't see this being what i am looking for, for a variety of reasons.

edit: I never played the single player KotoR games, I wanted to, but i play MMOs for my gaming fix...

I'm 32. I didn't enjoy SWG, and wasn't that big of a fan of KOTOR. I'm actually not that big of a Star Wars fan, either. Much more of a trekkie.

I was initially very excited about TOR, but its really been tempered. If reviews are positive from players, not critics, I will give it a go.

I am in the 35+ range and will buy this game. I saw the 1st SW movie in the theater as a kid and had many of the action fugues. I am a SW movie fan but that is about it. I am a Bioware fan and played both KOTOR 1 and 2. And love BW SPG's. My favorite game was Baldar's gate for years and have always wanted a BW game to become a MMO. This will be it. And I ammcrossing my fingers that they get the MMO features in this game. Because the story is there without a doubt.

I fall under the category of 26-35 gamer who has played SWG and both KOTOR games.. I am a huge star wars fan. I even collected and played  the miniatures game, and also own several of the novels..  I'm an avid fantasy reader and enjoy reading the star wars novels as well...  So, yea I like Star Wars, lol..

With that said, I really hope Bioware doesn't make the "mistake" and create this game to appeal to "everyone"... That really means its geared toward kids and young adults who don't really know anything about Star Wars at all.. Not only that, but I fear the MMO aspects of the game will be lacking compared to other popular traditional MMORPG's.. I don't want to see KOTOR3 but with little mmo elements as options.. That would really bum me out.. I expect it to be a true MMORPG and not mostly a single player RPG with little MMORPG features..  If this turns out to be the case, I'll just skip out on this game, just like many many other true hardcore star wars fans looking for a surreal Star Wars MMO experience

I ammm 27, and I am not a huge star wars fan.  Yes i've seen the movies,  even the original trilogy didn't really "do it" for me.  I love star wars games though,  most notably the Battlefront and KOTOR series.  My favorite MMO was SWG Pre-NGE.  I am varied on my likes as far as games go, and even though I have played KOTOR before,  I think if this was an original title by BioWare without having previous games to draw from,  I'd still plan on playing TOR.

I'm 31, played SWG pre-cu/cu, (favorite MMO actually). Also played and loved KOTOR ( just replayed 1 and 2 recently). I'm also  looking forward to Biowares continuation of KOTOR. Also a huge SW nerd growing up, not so much anymore, but I still like SW for the nostalgia it brings up from my youth.

35 yrs here, I'm kind of a fan of SW, not big enough to be salivating over it.....I always prefered, Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek.........but anyway, in a gaming version of SW I'm worried of the balance and the roles of other NON JEDI/SITH people.

I hope my worries are put asisde when this rolls out, as a different direction MMO that I can get into will be a welcomed change of pace.

If Bioware was not developing this game, I would also have very little interest as well. I am interested in this MMO because of how much I have enjoyed Bioware's previous games (Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Kotor, Baldur's Gate, etc.). I am 34 and really did not see the movies until I was much older.

I'm 20, have been a Star Wars fan since I was 7 years old and my dad introduced me to it on VHS.... Played most of the games except, surprisingly, SWG. Loved KOTOR since it's released.

I'm definitely excited for this, but of late Guild Wars 2 has definitely drawn my attention away form TOR.

I answered the poll even though I am undecided.  I always wait till a few months after release before I even think about jumping into a game.

“It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”

I am 42, and didnt try SWG until CU due to the bad press/word of mouth at launch. Hated it when I did try. Luved KOTOR though.

I will be getting myself  a copy of TOR, and one for my wife to share with our youngest daughter. I dont know if the wife will convert though, as she plays EQ2 almost daily. The youngest is 15, and she already told me I would be getting her a copy after I showed her a couple of trailers. Heh

38 and I'll be playing.  To be honest though, I at least TRY most MMOs that release.  I have to say, even 2 years ago when I sat in on the press demo at E3 the gameplay looked fun and fluid, so I am excited to give it a try...

I'm in the 35+ group.  I have fond memories of seeing Star Wars at a local movie theater when I was just a wee lad.  That was back when admission was about $2.50 for kids, and people knew how to shut the hell up during a movie.

Anyways I've tried both SWG and Knights of the Old Republic.  SWG was pretty bad, but then I was playing the latter version of the game.  KOTOR....meh I could never get past the beginning as it failed to draw me in with the story.  I admit though that I plan to give it another try before the MMO is released.

Currently WoW is my game of choice, but there are some characteristics of the game that have me shaking my head and sometimes embarassed to be playing it.  Maybe I'm just too old for the cartoony nature of it...the outlandish armor and weapons, the Disney like gnomes, etc.

I've become less excited about SWTOR as more info has been released, because like others I think it is turning out to be WoW in space.  That's not necessarily a bad thing...but it's just not as exciting as something more innovative.  If they want to use WoW as an inspiration that's fine...just leave the stupid qualities of WoW behind.

I'm 145 years old and I loved KOTOR, never played SWG, loved the movies (especially 4-6), and expect to be around when they understand the 90% of our brain that is still untapped so we can use the force in real life and not need to play an MMO.

mainly want to try it because I love Bioware's products

I'm 20, I have played both. I have completed kotor 20 times, and I think that SWG is/was the worst star wars game, ever.
