Can you give more details ? Raid what ? About pvp, is there a way to fight someone who is in your side ?

There is duelling and there is the Arena which is a free for all. The new pvp reward system http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/pvp/rewards-armor.html ads so much to the high end game.
There are several very high level areas such as Dire Maul. There is also the raid to kill onyxia the dragon. There is more, but I'm not that high yet.

Doesn't seem to be that much. Probably just powerlevel your friends so they can be bored with you at the top. :P

well it is quite limited until they come out with the battlegrounds.  Hopefully that will be the next patch.

Thing is I don't want to fight people just because they are on the other side. All this alliance-horde thing will make me be allied with a lot of people i hate and fight against ppl i may like.

Can zones be conqured, can you siege castles and stuff ?

No, its just pointless pvp. (inless honour system came with the latest patch.) and even then its just pointless killing so you can be a uber general and get new armor.

Oh yea, you just raid MC and Onyxia all day too. its quite fun... not.

oh *no* I was afraid of this. I like to immerse myself in a game. I like to feel I am in it.  I like a strong -story-, with a plot.

What i don't like is people running around with their head as a third leg acquiring the next "lvl". Not having time to even read the description of the "quest" (which in WoW really translates to tasks as mentioned in the preview on this site). This is not relaxation with a good game, this is stressful, hard work. If you don't know the exact amount of (/insert word here/) from that and that potion/spell/weapon/pet/armour, you're nothing. If you fail to see the importance in the "giveouts" in a quest, you're nothing. This is not an interactive story, this is math, combined with an arrogant and boasting streber-playground exploiting the true nature of rpg. And the award doesn't exist.

That was the first thing I asked myself when looking at those poor sods running after their xp:s. What then? After maxing it? Will they realize they haven't commented on *any* of the tasks given (x'ept asking for help in order to finish it -faster-)? Not chatted up *one* random player in town? I've done 'bout 20 hrs so far and am still awaiting any comments from the players, on anything but lvl:s or quest difficulty, with all its gadgets and nicknacks.

I mean, even that guy....I'm not that high yet. Like that's the important thing. But then again it mirrors the common ttitude there. Be high level.

I thought I could buy myself a house in a nice place, take it easy and listen to the wars far beyond the mountains, but....all it is is killing in a very black and white environment.

    Uber general. Cmoooon blizz.

...So you bought a MMORPG entitled World of Warcraft and expected to be able to buy a house somewhere in the mountains and just sit there and read about the wars in a local newspaper? That's what it looks like from your post.

Maybe I am a little bit confused, but aren't you supposed to, I don't know, war and stuff in this game? There are plenty of things to do after hitting that mark. Most obvious would be to make an alt and do it again but in a different way. If you have a 60 warrior, make a caster and see how it fares. Another would be to get good a crafting, getting straight 300s in all of your trade skills.

And now, with the release of the PvP honor system, PvP is a very doable thing. You can work your honor up and then, eventually, get better gear and keep PvPing against other people on your level.

The issue now is that releaseing the honor system without battlegrounds.  All xp camp areas are nothing but farm honor kills now.  I think it was a mistake to release the honor system without the battlegrounds.  I question this honor system.  Seems to me to reward how many hours you play.  I didnt know at the time that this new rank system is you compared to the rest of the server.  Not how many kills you get.  They compare your kills to others and highest gets best rank then down.  It is now based on how much time you spent pvping.  Guess i will wait out a week but, if this is how its going to be.  Then blizzard saying that this for the casual gamer is 1 fat lie they drew out.  I play at the most 2 hours a day if I am lucky.  Sad to think that the school children and peeps with no life finally get rewards for being bums.  It has turned out to be World of Warcraft to World of Tournament Playing.

    You with the red font:

No, I bought a game like world of warcraft in anticipation of getting to do something innovative, like playing against my own faction or conquering zones or castles. Talking to other players who also aren't in a hurry, because I feel like it and maybe have fun doing it. I don't know about the papers, but still it would be nice if something else could be done than in the shadow of feeding the cause of fighting, against whoever might be on the other side (called btw "the enemy" by G. Bush). How about participating in the infrastructure of the virtual society, or the economical aspect. Building stuff. Inventing it. Not just like, killing the bad guys and trying to powerlevel as fast as possible. That is too black and white and also in the end boringly stupid. Not to mention what it does to the immersion in the game. You can't connect to a game if you just sit and count points and stress out for your next level. Gone that far, you don't give much for the reason or story in killing those ten moonkins.

I'm btw sorry you looked at my posting like you did.

My point was that people don't care, the tasks are just a means to 'get to lvl 60'. Because, when I'm that, I'm a really tough guy. And when I'm done, I can do it again, because that makes me even tougher. -And- I know more details. And maybe I even get to be an uber general, which for now is the *toughest*=P! Read the other postings on this thread to see what this discussion was about.

This is just like in vice city or san andreas. If you want to participate and progress in an interesting virtual world, you have to be a professional killer. And that's all there is to do regarding plot or storyline. That, ladies and gents, makes you wonder what kind of world we live in.

This kinda crystallizes/harmonizes my point of view:

After three months you can't bring yourself to log on, it starts to feel like a job. If you're looking for long term fun, look elsewhere."

You're level 60 but you don't seem to know anything about what features the game has or doesn't have.

I'de suggest you start a new character and take your time. Enjoy the quests, admire the scenery, do some fishing and chat to people.

If you don't want to pick a side, then you picked the wrong game.  You can't communicate or group with the other side so its unlikely that you'll make friends there.

I believe you would be quite happy on the RPG labeled servers.  I personally have never been on any RPG servers, so I don't know for sure.  But after reading some forum posts, it seems that there is a bit of a different atmosphere there than the PVP or normal servers filled with younger people who come from a first person shooter or real time strategy uber clan backgrounds.

At the moment no, but probably in a few years.  Battlegrounds will be instanced zoning combat and the new Honor system will at least not make PvP pointless.

Right now WoW is grinding to 60 fighting mobs and doing random quests.  At 60 then you can raid a few high end mobs with 40 other people to farming status.  Or you can PvP when you are bored or chat with your friends and that's about it.  Some people love this so much they have 2 and more characters over 60th level.

Basically shut-in with 500+ hours played will swear by this game.
