City of Heroes: Reactivation Weekend

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

City of Heroes devs have announced that a reactivation weekend for all former players is planned for October 7-10, 2010. During the weekend, all players will have access to the new areas and quests implemented with the Going Rogue expansion released earlier this month.

If you've let your City of Heroes account lapse, but would like to see what Going Rogue is like, we will reactivate your account for FREE. Because there is so much new content to explore, you're getting almost FIVE full days to experience it all!

Active and reactivated account holders will be able to try out our newest and most visually captivating power sets* while discovering a brand new parallel world and the intestine struggle ripping apart its denizens behind those sterile Praetorian walls**!

Arg. That is something I actually wanted to do... but I'm closing on a house on the 6th and moving the 7th. I won't even have internet until the 11th.

And this is why I keep CoH loaded on my computer. They love to give free weekends, and I love to check back in.

Err, buy the game? A beta account is no good as the game has been released for 6 years...

This activation weekendend seems to only be for inactive retail accounts too.

** Please note all active or reactivated accounts that will be granted temporary access to Going Rogue will only have access to the Praetorian content up to level 14.

Anybody have any Idea why they're using this limitation?

  • SantoriniSantorini Member Posts: 20

I'm not sure what word they meant to use, but "instestine struggle" means something completely other than what they think it means.  I think they were shooting for "internecene", which refers to internal political turmoil.  "Intestine" of course refers to the lower alimentary tract, and an "instestine struggle" is something that would probably keep you away from your computer for long periods of time.  Maybe they're introducing event salvage that resembles little bottles of Imodium?

And yes, it says "intestine" on the CoX site, it's not a MMORPG.com transcription typo.

It's a trial weekend for the GR expansion.  If you don't own the GR expansion, you are only allowed trial access to it.  If you are active and own GR, you won't be subject to the limitation.

The marketing office probably ordered Taco Bell before working on the website.  Intestinal struggle, indeed...

Because Praetoria only has 20 levels of content and they want you to buy the expansion. NCSoft and Paragon Studios have become greedy bastards as of late.

Well, with all due respect to them, I'm not gonna pay 30 beans for 6 levels of gameplay... yes I know it's kinda lame to ignore the trial bit you get for nuttin...

I must be a bit misinformed about this xpack... another lvl 1-20 area experience, and an option to switch from goodie to baddie or vv doesn't seem like a whole lot of content.  Especially knowing the first 10 levels are maybe a few hours of gameplay.  Have I missed something?  Couple new power sets?

Indeed you have. Pistols and demon summoning. I think a new melee set is in there as well.  Plus, the morality system with the side-switching is only available with the expansion. And some other stuff. Try actually going to the website and reading about the expansion...

I was planning on coming back but i decided not to. Most of the people i was friends with left the game and moved on. I resubbed again this summer ago and Freedom, which used to have the largest population, seemed like an empty ghost town. They made a big mistake by releasing the mission's architect. People got hooked on the farming and power leveling and once NcSoft addressed the issue, the population dropped drastically. I don't miss the constant chat and lfg spam in Atlas Park but i do miss the regulars that used to hang around in that zone.

Its worth it.Alot of content in the pretoria side. been threw it twice now an not had the same ending or stories. The moral system has some nice rewards to past 20.The extra power sets as well as new costum bits etc are worth the 30 imho an if you dont own coh buying the expac collection can get you all the rest.

Spent last week playing coh mostly an haveing a blast. For those who talk of ghost towns in coh yes their are some servers the population dwindles down depending on the time of day an day of week. But virtue an freedom stay yellow to red almost all the time.

Now you can email your self inf from villian an fun a hero toon so alt-itus is even more apealing . As well as cross server tradeing.

Um the coment on  paragon being greedy with coh lately .. um i play everquest 1 . Time vs money invested coh is far better value. No other game has given more free content that i have played.Their may be some out thier. But to me CoH has always been awsome with free stuff. An no i didnt buy the emote pack .

If u want to access praetoria for later Issue updates  that have content for higher lvls, then u might want to give up the green. The Alignment system makes things a bit more interesting now, and the 4 new powersets are only available to GR owners.

Actually, the side switching has quite a bit of content, and they'll be adding more. Incarnates, the end-game for CoH, is also part of the expansion. Essentially, you have to buy GR or no end game for you (though Incarnates isn't out yet, next issue for that one.) And finally four new power sets: dual pistols, demon summoning, kinetic melee, and electricity control.

Wow, even when I'm on the outs with this game, I can't help but defend it... :/

And they were doing that PERFECTLY FINE with a monthly subscription. CoH has about 100,000 subscribers, so they are making about $1.5 MILLION a month on the game. There is no call for any company raking in that kind of money to nickel and dime their loyal subscribers!

Please forgive me if I am wrong but going to have to call BS.  I tried the 7-day trial return and was extremely disappointed with the new Praetorian content.  It started  when I got  missions inside an office and they were the EXACT same layout from the tired COH/COV offices, just added new textures.  Warehouse missions that were EXACTLY the same!  What don't they understand about repetitive?  I only ran to level 12 but I got to say it got boring really fast.   Now if there is something I am missing please point it out, like the Trial blocks some real content, but it's just the same (or to similar) environments to it's predecessors with the same mission objectives ad infinitum.

Thats the reason i stopped paying 2 accounts monthly , the reason is selling emotes pack that should have been included in the going rogue expansion >.<

Godsake how greedy can marketing get nowadays .

Anyway the real system to going rogue or praetorian , is that (will do it in bold) ACTUALLY READ THE STORIES !!

You finally can make a impact on choice , kill off npc that previously gave you missions (those will dissapear from your world , wow phasing system made individual) .

Those missions arcs final have a moral choice , fast leveling is not recommended , infact sometimes you have to put the toon on NO XP to achieve the end of the story arc , to get the moral choices .

The rest yup graphic update , stupid new BALANCED powerset , thats underpowered compared to old sets .

Tons of bugs again , same old story , same old farm and boredom .

Its the greed that gotten to them , that cost them i think in the end more good veteran subscribers .

Then the going rogue expansion brings in . Shame though CoX had the best online forum community that i ever saw .
