I just started my trial through NCSoft yesterday morning. It's fun so far, and I'm thinking I might purchase it. I've only been playing for about 5 hours and already have 5 alts.
I can either get this through NCSoft or Steam. Is there any difference between the two? Is it even worth getting? Will I get bored quickly? Any tips/pointers on getting the most out of the game?
Current: None
Played: WoW, CoX, SWG, LotRO, EVE, AoC, VG, CO, Ryzom, DF, WAR
Tried: Lineage2, Dofus, EQ2, CoS, FE, UO, Wurm, Wakfu

No difference on where you get it from.
I'm a 69 month veteran so I'll say yes, it is worth getting, if you enjoy the trial.
Will you get bored quickly? I figure not, given you've got a number of alts already. The fun is in the different playstyles based on the character your making and the different teams you play on. It's only a grind if you make it a grind, such as those few still calling out for farms.
Tips for getting the most out of the game....
--have fun. Play the character you want to play and immerse yourself in it as much as you want.
--be nice. A majority of the people in the game and on the boards are pretty nice, even the veterans who are continually re-rolling new characters. People will gladly lend you a hand, especially if you identify yourself as a new player.
--don't look at it as a typical mmo. The real game doesn't start at the end, it starts as soon as you log in. You don't have goals of getting x-level to go from fireball 3 to fireball 4. Your powers grow as you grow. The game is balanced on "single-origin" enhancements, meaning if you just work from drops and store-bought stuff, you still can be successful. Not seeing people on the streets means that people are likely off in an instance -- difficulty scales with number of players and challenge level, which the mission owner controls. Finally, there is no necessary class -- you don't have to have a tank or a healer, the holy trinity is unnecessary. You can run around with 8 scrappers or 8 controllers, every class is viable and teams develop synergies, regardless of power combination.
--have fun. Yep, just enjoy yourself. ( ' :
Thanks for a few of your detailed comments in this thread and others Therain. I am loving the trial myself and will be picking up the 40 dollar upgrade for Going Rogue soon.
