I love DC Comics!!
Superman and Batman are two of my favourite Superheroes - however, that being said, I would love to one day see a Marvel Universe (with similar graphics to this) online MMORPG! I know there is the kid friendly "Marvel Super Hero Squad Show MMO", but in that you actually play the heroes themselves as far as I can tell (like a online version of Ultimate alliance I guess) - but I would love to see the same attention to detail go into a full blown MMO like this one - there are plenty of good characters too in the Marvel universe, and the age olld friendly rivarly between the two!
Heres hoping!

It's in the works by the same company making Super Hero Squad, different teams I believe though.
In April, the Lead Designer from Fallen Earth announced he was leaving to go work on Marvel Universe.
The Gazillion website just has placeholder page when you click the name, but it's in some state of development I'd guess.

I knew I would live to design games at age 7, issue 5 of Nintendo Power.

Truth is that Microsoft tried to make Marvel Universe Online for the Xbox360 but ended up canning it. here's the info if you don't belive me.

Yeah it was going to be originally made by Cryptic and Microsoft for PC and 360. Marvel and Microsoft pulled out and to not let their work go to waste some say that is why Champions Online was made.
"You think this "A" stands for France?" Captain America
I'm pretty sure its back in development, although not with Cryptic.

Yussir Garret is correct, gazillion is purportedly putting out a marvel universe MMO. There aren't too many details on this one, but very soon all the big players are ::going to be:: in ::the MMO scene:::. I'm more of a marvel fan then a DC fan, but to tell you the truth, as far as persistent worlds go, I would much rather run around the DC cities like gotham and metropolis, see the sights, venture into Arkham, I just think it, world wise, DC is a more appealing experience for me.
Then again I have absolutely NO information on locations or any mechanic reveals from MUO so I guess its too early to truly judge.
I don't know about all the big players having a MMO. Dark Horse probably won't and neither will Image at least not at this point. There might be smaller companies take a chance on aquiring an IP from one of those and making that uinverse into a MMO if DC Universe does well but I don't know.

In terms of comic books, Marvel and DC are the only two "big players". While companies like Dark Horse have some very popular characters, no one else has the breadth and depth of Marvel and DC's "worlds". Personally I'm not sure their size is all that advantageous. Ignoring the issue of how much money a company can put forth for the moment. Marvel and DC have the advantage in PR and fanbase. But one key difference between comics and MMO's is this: Comics are designed to make the reader sympathize with the hero, feel like they are "in their shoes". In single player games like Marvel's Ultimate Alliance you can do that as well. In MMO's that is the one thing you can"t do. Aside from DCUO's info that you can play as THE hero: Batman/Wonder Woman/Superman etc. in pvp instances, in the general world folks getting too close to copying any copyrighted characters will get modded out. That will turn some fans off.
Smaller companies like Image or Dark Horse that have popular characters and a distinct "feel" to their world, but that aren't as densly packed with characters might have an advantage in that it would feel more organic to be fighting alongside Hellboy or Savage Dragon. In DCUO anytime Batman calls me to say he needs me for a mission, a little voice in the back of my head is going to snarkily ask: "What, were Batgirl, Robin, Nightwing, Batwoman, Catwoman, Huntress and Ace the Bat Hound all too busy? No, really, I don't mind being your 8th choice. Pardon me? Oh, you also asked the Legion of Super Heroes too, and all 124 of their members were busy? Well that just does bloody wonders for my self esteem as a hero. Thanks a bunch Bats."

And its a Damn good thing that Cryptic Got the licences pulled, would have hated to see a Marverl Uni like what they did with STO anc CO. Good move on Microsofts part!

LOL is it going ot be Super Hero Squad for teens/adults??
Smash frost giants with Thor’s® Hammer. Unbalance Ultron™ by slinging Captain America’s® shield. Explore a remote and hostile jungle as Storm™.
Leave behind your everyday life and live as a renowned Marvel Super Hero™ including all of his or her abilities. Become powerful, famous, well-respected, feared by evil-doers, and relied upon by the citizens of a grateful, persistent online world.
Im sorry if i wanted to play like this there is Marvel Alliance. I hope thats just PART of MUO and not what they are planning on doing for the main online experience.
Well I don't mind Marvel having it's MMO but Both Marvel and DC have some work to put in if they going to be half as good as City of Heros. Right now CoH has to still make some more powers sets cause they lack, as well maybe add some events. So yeah DC and Marvel need to make a full custimization creation set up, bunch of powers, lots of areas, and so much more.
