Sony Online Entertainment has announced the official launch of Everquest II: Extended, the free-to-play version of the original. The Extended version allows players to take on the entire game, paying only for what they wish without the need for a subscription. To celebrate the launch, SOE is offering all players a cosmetic staff that can be picked up in Freeport.
It's official! SOE has removed BETA from the logo and is proud to announce the official launch of EverQuest II Extended.
To celebrate the launch, EQ2X players can claim their free Staff of the Rising Phoenix from the in-game Marketplace on the Freeport server. The staff is an appearance-only item, depicting a phoenix engulfed in glowing flames, and will be available for a limited time only, so be sure to claim yours before 11:59 pm PDT on Sunday, October 3rd.

Have all the free servers reset? do we loose our old toons from the beta?
Well, I'll be jumping back in. Miss those lands.

Tried it when the "beta" went public. Felt SOOO crippled. You almost need to dump some money in just to get started. At least LotRO tries to hook you before getting you to the point where you need to spend money.
Extended rocks. Tons of good adult guilds. You don't have to spend anything unless you want...or unless you're a child with no self control. Don't believe the whiners. They just don't like the game apparently and have to try to bring down the rest that do. Best thing out there right now imo.
I dunno It seemed like I had issues holding agro with only adept level skills. And I couldnt upgrade at broker because I couldnt use it. I guess my only option for trade is face to face? Also bag space was pretty limited. I almost want to spend 10 dollars for silver but I guess I can get around this somehow aye?
Calling it beta was just plain stupid.

Hope you get that all so called Free to play games are going to try and get some money out of you and if you are dead set at never spending a cent, don't expect the devs to bend backwards trying to give you more options.....
I'm starting to think that "free-to-play" isn't worth the money you didn't pay for it, due to the technical incompetance that you have to deal with just to get started. The borked opening weekend for Lord of the Server Lag Online was nothing compared to this.
I already have a Station account and am successfully logged into it, yet the first thing I'm told to do upon clicking the "Play Now" button is that I have to create a Station account before continuing. You can't get to the download page from this page without creating a dupe account. There is no option to log into an existing account, which I already did before leaving the EQII home page.
On the 1-in-3 chance that you can get to a screen that doesn't require you to create a duplicate Station account before continuing, the downloaded installer is corrupt and can't be run. I've downloaded it eight times (yes, that's right, I had to play the "Play Now" lottery 24 times to get a screen eight times that didn't require me to create a dupe Station account).
Brilliant, Sony. I think you just lost a potential customer. If this is the sort of ridiculousness we have to put up with, I may be cancelling my DCUO preorder also. I heard nothing but bad things about SWG, and this is doing nothing to build my confidence in your abilities.
I"ve been playing the beta version of this with my wife and even though I don't particularly care for the graphics too much, we both love the gameplay and have been having a blast in the game. I highly recommend it and we haven't payed a cent!
Aah..... the smell of a new car,,,,, the feel of a "new" game! The bragging rights of an FtP - "I'm playing EQ2 for free, and I "looove" the game!" The classic noob exclamation!
You'll get tired of the insessant advertising msgs to buy an upgrade before you know it. You'll get sick of those 2 lousy bag slots you've got, and having 40 slot bags in them won't solve the problem of not being able to sell anything on the broker to make money. Not being able to use the mail system will soon drive you crazy. Exercise that self-restraint, folks. Keep your fingers off the BUY button in the Station Store. Good luck fighting those lvl 80 bosses with your low level skillsand your substandard gear! But of course, I'm just spilling cold water on a hot stove right now. Free to play gets tiresome a LOT quicker than a regular subscription game does. Of course you have to play it awhile to being realizing how much you really are missing out on. And then the subscription will become interesting, then appealing, and finally impossible to ignore. There's no such thing as a "free lunch" .. or a "free online game". Of course, if you're only hopping from one MMO to another because you're already bored to death with MMOs, then Free to Play is the way to go. It is, after all, just a t rial version of the "real game". Don't kid yourself that it isn't.
I tried the beta. I just thought the game was dated.
Its the best deal out their right now, especially for someone who doesn't want to dedicate their life to an MMO. If you arn't hardcore you will never need to spend a penny in this game. Theres no brick wall like in LOTRO. You are never forced to spend money... only tempted by the conveniences or extra's that are offered if you do. You can play level 1-80 without spending a penny and without grinding, that is fact.
It's a free ticket into the themepark guys.. but if you fancy an icecream you're guna have to open your wallet.
Yes it is but honestly i do not expect much for free.
I have a different option that makes sense from my selfish stand point. To those that resub, they have to pay a copy over cost and in my case Silver on two other players.BTW i copied over 2x.
I think it would be fair if SOE instead offered a duo box account for 22 bucks, then i wouldn't need to use a freebie [Silver] player to duo box. This makes them money and allows me to play the game as intended.
I know sounds selfish but hey, they still make money, more than normal, because without the ability to duo box for anything less than 30+tax a month, they would get nothing from me.BTW...in Canada it is not as simple as the 30 bucks,we have tax and a conversion rate that in reality drives that 30 bucks closer to 40 a month.I am fair i want something in return for supporting the developer above and beyond the normal one subscription cost.
Yet one more idea...rewards system. Many item mall games do it,the more you spend you are rewarded. The reward could be hours of GOLD play time.So say if i purchase 10k SC pts,i have stored say 100 hours of GOLD game play to use on any player any time i want.sounds good ?????hmmmm.Think about it,people could spend as they can aford to spend and are rewarded for supporting the game.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
where do I down load the game from the site?
My original game disks are missing.
You can download from the website.
But if you intent to play longer than just a peek, better download the whole EQ2 client and play that instead. It's a lot cheaper in the long run than pay the bottomless pit of EQ2X...
The date in the article is wrong. It says you need to claim the staff by the 3rd, but the EQ2X site says 7th.
Stupid question. Do you have to buy the game or is it a free client down load?
Did they create any new servers to coincide with go live?
While bronze accounts are a bit crippled , I just love the "brand new" feeling this server got . Feels like launch day but with a mature game this time , plenty of content for all lvls , some pvp , no bugs worth mentioning as well . And the community is mature and helpfull , a friend I brought along was astonished to get helpfull answers every time he had a question . Lots of mmo oldtimers in here and Im one of em . Dunno if its gonna last but I like it for now ....
