Anyone else find guild recruitment on forums a little weird? I've been in beta, and with previous games I've made the mistake of being recruited (and recruiting) people I've never seen play before. I know you all are excited about getting a power base before the game comes out, but guys.... what sort of base will you have if you have nothing but a resume?
My name is karmu, and feel free to recruit me in game - after you see my uber skills.

even if you take a new character that doesnt know anything, it is easier to mold him to what you want him to be =D
if the player sucks you give him a different class that you need and teach him that or you teach him his current class if thats what u and the person want... alot of ways to get around it.

Honestly, I've been leading a guild for over 4 years now, I'd much rather recruit some stranger that I've never seen and know nothing about, give him a trial period, see if he fits in the guild and see if the guild fits his needs in the game; than to recruit someone who comes up bragging about their "uber skills" and such. Just my personal preference tho.

to each his own.
to be honest, it's much easier to see whether or not a person fits the values of the group if you see him/her in action first. It's also much easier for the recruitee to see whether or not he/she likes the group of people more if they play together.
I'm surprised - since you've been leading a guild for 4 years now - that you haven't been in the odd position of recruiting someone you don't know, don't like, and then having to boot later, causing the awkward and negative situation before...I know I have been there.
Anyway, I suppose there are definitely different stances on how a guild should be run, and both are indeed viable. Thanks for helping me realize that point.
I think there are goods and bads of each, alot of times, you will see someone in game and they you can get a impression of them, as where if you get them off a forum then they creat their impression and get a chance to do better. See when this game comes out, sure there will be uber people but most will be like me and not played the beta and just starting out. I'm pretty good at MMORPG's, PVP and PVM i'm not the best but still. When a game comes out there isn't a way to show your skill, i'm gonna start at lvl 1 just like everyone else ya know.
Both points of recruitment are legit. Why not do it both ways, give the trial period, see if they mix with the team well, see how their personallity is and whatnot. Take a vote between members to see if they stay or go. 80% or better is how it works for my team.
