The client should be available today check your local timezones better download it early I estimate it to be more or less 4GB for the new game client

I'll be keeping my eye on this. I'm not as optimistic as you but I'll give damn near anything a chance. A good naval mmo done right would be very fun.

I've been bored out of my F'n mind lately, so I'm going to try Mabinogy until the OB arrives... but yeah, I've been looking for something similar to Sid Meier's Pirates! Is this close... or?

I do love this genre and was really planning on getting into this game but two things turned me off...

    1) I was initially rubbed the wrong way when the publisher decided that they would incude some bazzar malware messenging addon that you were forced to "try" and install in your browser before you could login to thier site (ie. forums, downloads, etc.) and if that wasn't bad enough they didn't even design it well and it would crash any browser I tried it on in Windows 7.

But the choices in this genre are somewhat limited so I was going to just suck it up and take it in order to play... that is until...

    2) Pirates of the Burning Sea announced it was going free to play.... Buby UWO and your flakey messenger malware! I would have liked to rage quit on the actual UWO boards but I still have no easy way to post on there ;)

  • thecrapthecrap Member Posts: 433

@GTwander: its OBT so they will no longer delete your char.  :)

OXbaker : No the messenger is not a malware and you don't have to install it. If you install the game it wont install the messenger its only for people who want to use the forums.

go ahead and play POTBS I really don't care because I'am playing UWO because of its unique gameplay  and the community is pretty mature and friendly

Its a great game good break from the usual. its a must try for people who are looking for something new and not just pirates and naval stuff.

  • thecrapthecrap Member Posts: 433

Servers should be up in about 3hrs!

  • IchmenIchmen Member UncommonPosts: 1,228

the messenger is not malware, its a sort of Xfire/steam that netmarble uses as a portal for their games, it will automatically patch and allow you to access all of their games with 1 account.

its just poorly coded so causes issues getting it to work. i had a few minor problems installing/patching it before CBT started but after i got it working, its been fine.

you dont have to use it, i just do as it seems to be a simple way to keep the game patched at least right now. OBT will show if the program is even worth keeping or not.

as for playing PoTBS meh to each their own. unlike POTBS i dont have a ship limit or any other sort of game limitions. (read their F2P FAQ, if you sub you have all the items unlocked but if you never subbed you will never have those levels.) at least UWO gives you 100% access to the game. i dont have to worry about CBT players having 10 more level ranks then i can ever have

  • thecrapthecrap Member Posts: 433

Yeah! the item shop faq just came out recently no overpowering stuff there. just basic XP boosts, POTBS in not free its like a demo with limitations unless you pay UWO is 200% free

A good game for people learning how to multibox.

A good game for people who never played a MMORPG designed back in 2003, before freedom got destroyed for the sake's of balance and specific target audiences with high cognitive abilities became main stream penitenciary online.

It gets my "Interesting Trademark" of: Old MMO School of Design Decision

    It satisfies explorers!

    It satisfies killers!

    It satisfies socializers.

    It satisfies achievers.

It defines "hardcore". Fullfills "massivelly" in every aspect of the world: scope of time, effort, number of players, size of the world and content.

Its one of the only MMORPGs in wich the game socio-political-economic environment is aknowledged and designed before hand and yet, still allowing the players controlling its future due to the tools.

    Player freedom at its best.

Think of  "EVE's learning curve for south koreans' level of education".

Long term character progression: we are talking about inability to reach level cap in less than 9 months.

Its a game without "end game". Noone in their right sake of mind would even think about "end game". There is no "end game". YOU. DO. NOT. REACH. END. GAME.

Due to that perfect design of not showing the end line, people are forced to enjoy the journey... or quit.

Not everyone is a hero, not all times, and certainly not without serious social skills, serious time investment, serious inteligence. Players individual power and influence is colossal. You learn pretty soon that you need other people and that you are in a society: you hit the society, its hits back.

You have to read quests. You have to have actual cognitive abilities to understand what you have to do, where you have to go, etc. The only exclamations mark you will ever gonna get are on the tutorial.

You have to think or you are going to die.

If the nature itself is not hard enough on you, the other players will be.

One thing you might not actually understand the spectrum of effects: Do you realize this game was designed in the early 2003 or so? A lot have changed in designs since then, A lot and you will see it right away.  If you started playing in the last 5 years you are in for a reality check, this game atleast serves as a history lesson of how MMORPGs were before the rainbows.

    Its awesome.

    Now for the bad:

combat is old school too... click and wait... not much actual player skill involved in the combat... its not like sid meyers pirates for instance, where a good player in a little fast ship could evade all shots... in this game everythings is motherfucking autofire, not enough twitch involved. In this aspect, even the german indie MMO World of Pirates is better.

Therefore, its missing the most important part. It misses its penis. A game that misses its penis is an eunuc game.

You're so quick to defend the game, you don't even read to see the guy was saying it was a good game. LOL

    Bah !

I wanted to try this game ,but there is no connection to server when try to login to Netmarble.I do not see it being a viable game down the road,it is a typical huge item mall game, since Pvp is involed, item mall will make for a very unbalanced game.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Visuals got an update looking better a lot of stuff was fixed too

I'm downloading it now to give it a shot. My main worries are that the graphics will be too asiany or cartoony or kid like, and also that the combat will be too simplistic. Other than that though it looks like it might be pretty good.
