Trial Account

JekkenoJekkeno Member Posts: 11

Hi, I recently quit WoW because I don't like subscription fees, I just made a GW trial account and will play it until I go to the store and buy GW. My question is, if I work on my trial character and then upgrade to the full game, will my character still be there and the same?

Yea, your good to go. If you play through the trial then upgrade to open account, it doesnt wipe your character.

A game is just that... a game, not an emotional crutch.

Client install is small because game areas download when you enter them for the first time.

Guild Wars steams the client as you play. It allows you to get into the game faster, however you will be downloading pieces of the game in the background, so your load times will be longer.

You can add the -image option to the shortcut for Guild Wars in order to download the whole game before playing.

To do that you would Right Click your GW Icon goto Properties, then in the Target field you will see something like:

"C:Program Files (x86)Guild WarsGw.exe" just add -image to the end making it look like this:

    "C:Program Files (x86)Guild WarsGw.exe" -image

Enjoy, and If you want, I am thinking of coming back to GW myself, perhaps we could team up!

The initial client DL and install is usually very short, its the first time running the client that will take time.  The full game data is about 8GB (last time I checked), but becomes playable after downloading about 4GB.  The rest of the data will download in the background as you play.

If you are concerned about lag as you play though, there is a way to force the client to do a full data install.  You would have to go on the wiki and search 'command line' because I can't remember how to do it right off the cuff.

*edit* the above poster covered the command line thing for me as I was typing my OP.

Don't worry about it, the thing is it is downloading many files, quickly so ur speed never maxes out :P I thought the same thing also when I went with this method.

But yah let me know when it finishes, perhaps we could group?

Thats probably an artifact of the client design.  The game was designed to be playable competitively over a dial-up connection, they probably put a cap on the up/down rates.
