I had the same thing. You need to go here based on how you installed your software.

    Windows 7

    1. C:Program Files (x86)SquareEnixFINAL FANTASY XIV

    2. Then click "ffxivconfig" and select "English". It is the top menu under the picture.

    3. Then set your display settings. I have a 24"  monitor that had this issue and I have an ATI 5850.

Problem was solved. Also you might have to log out and log in after this.

FYI-  This is a known issue- put in a ticket.

Regarding a Character Creation Error on FINAL FANTASY XIV

We have confirmed an issue where even though the registration of service account for FINAL FANTASY XIV has been properly done on Square Enix Account Management System, an error message saying "50002 The proper options must be added to a FINAL FANTASY XIV service account before a character can be created." may appear and unable to create a new character during the creation of a new character.

Investigation and recovery work is currently underway, but we ask for your patience as this matter is resolved.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

This is what worked for me- this options may be on the bottom left of the web page: taken from forums.

    1. Go to your square enix account page

    2. Click the tab on the right "select service"- for some regions it is on the bottom left side- no idea why.

    3. Click on "final fantasy 14"

    4. Click on the "options list"

    5. Click on "add new options button" near the top of the screen

    6. Go through the steps and select crysta as a payment option, you will get a 30 day discount which reduces price to 0, that will then open up a character slot in the game and you wont get the error.

    7. Iv'e just worked this out, please spread the word and help other people having trouble get in the game before you dive in yourself.

You change it to fullscreen in the config menu (same as for the language). There should be a windowed option you can uncheck or a fullscreen you can check.
