In his latest article, MMORPG.com's Garrett Fuller takes a look at the lore behind the world of TERA. But while lore is interesting in its own right, Garrett surmises that the day-to-day circumstances of each character will determine one's satisfaction with the game. See if you agree in TERA: The World as We Know It.
Lore is a tricky thing. As an MMO player looking closely at overall world lore can be awesome, or a pure let down. I think games are defined more by their immediate circumstances. Your character, playing with your guild or friends in different situations, really makes up the more recent approach to MMOs. TERA is designing a world that puts all of the races at odds with the races of the underworld. The Argons are the overall enemy and players their wrath.

Sorry, but I had to say - with the screenshot of that high elven woman at the bottom of my screen and part of the text of this article at the top, I read one of the sentences like this at first:
"Some breasts have been shown and are very unique in design, from what we have seen they are parts of the Argon invaders."
Completely subconsciously lol
A bigger and more developed pantheon is always better. Sad to read they are only using two, ugh.
I think Tera has great potential because of the action style play. I just hope they don't scuttle that with the oversexed stuff and overly simplified lore or reasons to rp/immerse yourself.
TERA has very rich lore and a greatly thought out story which runs through the whole game. However, some of the information in this article is incorrect and I'll try to correct it.
There are more gods than Arun and Shara in the game. Shara and Arun are the gods of creation in TERA, they fell into a deep slumber and their dreams make up TERA, which is situated on their backs. But there are many more gods in TERA, who all have human-like attributes, think like the gods of Greek mythology. For instance, the human capital city Velika, is named after the goddess Velik, and the huge wheel that you can see in screenshots and videos is a tribute to her. The Castanics used to be Devan(A nymph-like hostile faction in TERA) but when they got tired of all carnage, the demon god Lok took them in and helped them out. Because of a certain event they became a new race, the Castanics. You can read about it here http://www.massively.com/2010/08/05/massively-exclusive-the-lore-of-teras-castanica/
We also have Elinu, a god which the popori revere greatly. Their capital city is also named after her; Pora Elinu.
There's much more to read about TERA's lore here: http://www.tera-online.com/about_tera/world/world.php
The article briefly mentions that were are 12 gods (created by the two titans). Atleast one god is dead already though. This doesn't include any possible "gods" which may have come with the Argon. And although this article doesn't mention it, the gods are referenced many times during other pieces of lore that have been released, one which spefically discusses the Castanic participation in the death of a god and their subsiquent fall from grace.
Remember that Bluehole is simply adapting an existing game to suit the Western market. While some of the lore that they're coming up with is interesting, remember that they're coming up with lore to explain the crazy shit that's in the game, not the other way around.
For those of you who have played CO or CoH, it's like the players who use their bio to justify their giant ninja robot, instead of making a story and seeing where it takes them. There's always that random "And then ninja burned in big fire and became robo-ninja" moment to make you facepalm. And I expect nothing more from TERA.
Edit: Yes, I meant En Masse and not Bluehole...
Typical ignorant comment. You don't even know who is Bluehole studio. Bluehole studio is the Korean developers of the game. En Masse is the US publisher of the game. You obviously mean En Masse is adapting the game to the western audience, and mind you, they have a world-class writing team as has been mentioned countless times. I have read somewhere that half of En Masse's team consists of writers, and besides there have been many dev blogs and dev diaries over the development course which you obviously never spent the time to check, you did spent the time to write this idiotic comment however. Next time do your homework. TERA has a very rich lore.
And the male equivalent of this picture is what, Borat?
Instead of being nasty about it, all you had to do was provide some examples or an address where the information is. You want typical, this is the usual response for those that wear blinders prior to a new game coming out. TERA could be a great game, it also could be another facade like Aion that just looks good on paper. We won't know until the game is available to play. Been burned too many times to get excited about a yet to be game anymore.
And what exactly does the failure or the success of it has to do with solostaran being wrong about the lore? Paterah's response might have been a little harsh that's all, although properly done.
The point being he did not substantiate claims of lore with what he posted, and there is never a good reason to be nasty. He basically can't stand anyone being critical of TERA. My point is, let's not get all hyped up over a game until we can actually see for our selves what it entails. You want to see Lore, go look at Warhammer, DDO, Lotro, etc. TERA is a barren venue compared to them.
In the end it means nothing except to the roleplayers that use it. For most of us, gameplay will determine the quality of this game. I actually hope they produce a decent game, it is always nice to have options in this genre.
He can't stand anyone bitching about things they know nothing about, what's wrong with that? Don't try to make this into people being hyped up for something. The guy was obviously wrong about the lore and he got served. And "barren venue"... where did you pick that up again? I know it's kinda hard to accept that an eastern game has rich lore, but hey it's the truth! You would have known if you followed the game.
