Its actually called something else. They decided to revamp the name to Fairyland Fable Online 2. Atleast I think thats what it is since Fairyland is already a commercial game. There is also a very very likely chance this will be released in the states. Given the current state of english mmo's and upcoming mmo's. The lackluster brand-variety mmo is sapping the genre down. Seeing something like RO2 will thero-retically bring about something fresh for many gamers, and that is the key selling point. Also the graphics are incredibly nice, nicer then well anything out right now. So it should draw in those people who were turned away from RO because of the 2d sprites.
Given the surveys Gravity has been using, they are obviously planning for US marketing of a game in the future. So it might be possible you will have to buy the RO2 box. Also they will be showcasing RO2 at e3 this year. All this is evident that they will have a US release of the game since they wouldnt go through that much trouble if they werent.
Hopefully, they will upgrade the gameplay with the graphics.
It would be highly unlikely people can steal this data and use it in a Private server. The game obivously went through changes converting to full 3d which would mean a revamp on the old engine. They would have to once again crack into Gravities server and steal the source. But unlike the other time Gravity stopped using a 4 letter password. Regardless, with so many private servers running around Gravity can still seem to maintain 1.2 million subscribers world wide. Not many other games can hit that number where people cant make a private server of it.
Gravity's best marketing tool has been Beta tests. Its actually simple why they will always have a prolonged beta phase.
Obviously to get rid of bugs, but more importantly to get a player hooked on a game. Initially, players will be put off by the graphics or some parts of the game dont appeal to them. But its free so they play anyway, and when the month is up they just cant give up on the character they put so much work into. Or they saw some of the deeper addicting things in this game like the chat system.
One of the main reasons why Worlds of Warcraft hasnt done well in Korea is because at about the same time Blizzard released its open beta there, Gravity released its preview of RO2. After all RO boasts 500k+ subscribers in Korea, so its not surprising they wouldnt want to leave and start fresh in WoW, when they can upgrade to RO2 when its released.
It's probably too soon for a closed beta since its still in development. The closed beta will initially be sent to existing kRO users, so dont expect one for iRO users until like September 2005 at the earliest.

Well, on Gravity's korean website, they have flash image of the Ragnarok Online 2 logo -- but no information. (Mouse over "5" on the mainwebsite to see it) So I don't think they'll be calling it after Fairyland. Secondly, they failed to showcase it at E3 this year. All they had was a Gravity meeting room. <sigh>
Comments
later this year, for korea anyway. I'll probably get it if its only for korea anyway.

The people who made this game must be crazy...making another one??
People are only gonna steal the data and make private, free servers for this one too.
Or is this one gonna be free for everyone, unlike the first one?
humm... i think RO2 will be extreamly better, actualy i can't wait to see it ^^
and im sure that in RO2 it will be imposible for hackers to crack the server ^^
i'm also sure that big changes will occur, new jobs, monsters and clearly new events
and maybe a new story ^^
and i want to ask if someone know a date too sign in for the closed beta ^^
or are they going to make one ?_?
anyway lets see what Gravity will show us ^^
