I'm writing a new thread as a continuation of the JP reviews translated thread I made earlier, which can be found here. However, this new thread focuses specifically on the grammatical errors SE let slip into the retail version (JP).
The Japanese users were complaining about some of the item names and places written in Chinese. Now if you know anything about the two languages they both have Kanji (picture based characters) in their written systems. However, Chinese Kanji's have a few different variations. I.e. Traditional and simplified.
So, the Japanese were saying sometimes they couldn't even type the name of a specific item/place because their JP keyboard just could not produce the right character. (because it was simplified Chinese)
Apparently SE outsourced the quest programming and translation to a Chinese company.
Some major examples of this:
Chocobo (JP) = Horse Bird (CN Kanji) - They continue to use the Chinese characters even in the Japanese version. Note: the world Chocobo is Japanese. Horse Bird is not Japanese.
Main Weapon (JP) = Main Weapon (CN Kanji) - This may sound great, but there is no word in Japanese that corresponds to the CN Kanji that remains in the JP version of the game. This means they CANNOT type "main weapon" unless they switch their JP keyboard input to CN.
A Western example to better help contextualize the last example would probably be something like:
Main Hand (EN) = mÄïñ háñd (xx) - maybe English speakers can possibly figure out that it means main hand, but unless we have a different keyboard input than EN, you cannot re-type it. A minor inconvenience maybe, but I think on par with all the spelling errors the US version has.
Also, I get a sort of feeling of animosity from some of the Japanese reviews I read, saying SE was pretty lazy to OK the retail version with this amount of grammatical errors. Sort of the same feeling people are having with EN spelling errors.

Point being:
I think it breaks immersion A LOT.
Imagine your LS asks where you are (because party members don't show up on the map).
And you reply...
"I can't type the place. Hold on let me switch to GR keyboard input so I can type it." (assuming you can read GR).
Then you alt + tab only to have the game crash on you...
or you play in windowed mode, alt + tab out, switch the keyboard input so you can actually type the place name, then repeat the process to revert back to the original keyboard layout.
A bit tedious imo

I really dont care if they even released the game in China. I rather them spend all their time on the US version and let that one go to the waste.
It's the same as when there are tons of spelling errors. I breaks immersion, but I'm sure 90% of FFXIV players don't bother to read any of the quest text anyway, so it's not a HUGE problem...

Trolling and genralisation for the win
I mean honestly even writeing a second post right after the first after no one did react...
Thx for ruining my thread by offering your amazing intuitive thoughts.

The OP did not need to create a new thread for this as it is so much like his previously thread. It should be deleted or moved to his other thread. Lets see if moderators do anything about this.

Oh I am always glad if I am able to help.
