Long story short, I have a party with freinds fighting aldagoats at camp horizon (uldah 3rd starting zone).
We have:
1 Gladiator (me)
1 Marauder
1 Archer
1 Conjurer.
PRetty much every fight is a stuggle, takes 1 minute + ... and the way we are rewarded is just so unbalanced.
Gladiator - Near death, keep all aggro, sheilds always up, attacking, healing self, ect. 150 Sword, 50 shield on average.
Mara - Attacking and TP ... just standing there with no responsibility 300-500 skill up.
Archer - contributing more damage than the mara yet only receiveing 150-200
Conjurer - EVERY fight recieved 400-600 .... (granted important role like the tank).
Its so messed up. or are we doing something wrong?

I think it's definitely a flawed system. There was thread on this topic over at FFXIVCore, though the link right now eludes me. I believe it's thought that SP gains are random (as in, every time you use a class skill, you have a chance to gain SP), and I think you can only gain skill points by using skills that actually belong to your class (so your gladiator friend won't be receiving Sword skill points from using Cure or Second Wind, for example).
Personally, I'm not sure if it's exactly true, but I have noticed myself that Skill Points seems to be in a pretty broad range, with me sometimes not getting any at all.
No, not really. The game is completely messed up anyways. Grouping is actually detrimental to your personal skill point gains while soloing increases your skill points by a ridiculous amount.
I have a feeling they have no choice but to change this. It is flawed and rather stupid.
I also cannot get SP as a glad in groups. Its stupid that one should have to solo in order to get SP, when the game has few mobs and the ones it does have roaming are being fought over tooth and nail. Its ridiculous. Leves have to be done solo, in order for SP gains to be significant on the lever owners part, which defeats the purpose of group leve-ing.
Really unfortunate. how long will it take to fix this >.< . I want the game to be good. But this is disapointing.
yo
i may be wrong but does not exp and skill points start to lower after time . so if that is true it would depend where each is on burning through your time limit.. just a thought.
Yeah let's make this game so you'll need to group up to even go take a piss - after spamming for 3 goddam hours. I really hate the stupid group-r-us retards.
Yea coz solo grinding mobs on your own is so much fun... go play WoW, your obviously dying to.
don't really get the "go play WoW", unless you can solo heroic ICC raid bosses yourself
ffxi party play was the same way. for a while
Right... Birdy88's comment basically made my IQ drop just by its sheer stupidity.
If FFXIV was supposed to be played in multi-link shells, they should put in an easy way to find them or even groups.
hell, even vindictus has a queuing system to make finding groups easy - An Asian made MMO in beta.
Joining a ton of LS is basically doing the same thing as adding zone chat or an LFG channel :P
Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
I wonder if this is related to the infamous fatigue system? are all jobs the exact same level, is physical the same level? maybe this might be related. i really don't know. on the surface that looks really messed up.

Funny enough, I haven't seen a sign of the Fatigue system anywhere. It's like they took it out before they released the game. Or maybe it's just completely transparent so I have no idea how much xp I'm being docked.
Anyway, from what I gather from recent developer interviews, they're currently taking a good look at the skill up mechanism. It was not their intention to make this a primairly soloing game. I expect we'll see some adjustments soon.
Rank xp is very much malfunctioning. There's a bug where mobs partially reset and regen hp by moving/running away; each time it does that, it wipes the points that people have accrued on the mob. There's also another bug where if the party size is over two people, some people simply do not get experience after the mob dies. These bugs, along with another one where initiating a fight and attacking out of range causes a player's stamina to drain entirely, have been in since the start of beta.
The system is much better off giving a set amount of xp upon mob death to everyone in the party, otherwise people are better off soloing. I have a feeling that the buggy mob pathing is too difficult for them to fix to use the system they have in place now.
This has nothing to do with it. I think only a very few people have hit it, or only a very few made mention of it. I think someone complained about it on FFXIV core, but it was something like 92,000 skill points before it started taking an effect.
If people are averaging 92,000 SP in a week... I want to know their secrets >.>
No, the skill up system currently in right now is screwed. As I've said before, I've hit near 0 SP when solo'ing just for the next same mob to give me ~150. Such as extremes tend to be rare, but it's too random right now.
It's working as intended. Go back to WoW.
