eve-online, turn everything on - go to a big battle and you feel like watching some awesome sci-fi movie

Entropia Universe (uses Crysis Engine last time I checked, blows everything else out of the water graphical wise. Including AoC & EvE which bouth are quite pretty to look at).

I loled hard on this one...

It perfectly reflects the main drawback of EVE Online, not updating old features.

Sleeper's lasers look just awesome, yet lasers on your ship look like from 2003... The 'phenomenal warp effect' is still pixelated PoS, numerous effects are exactly same method, which makes them look what they are - the same, sensor boosters anyone..., etc. ?

They indeed revamped whole part of the engine, implemented SM3 but somehow, they did not have time to revamp the effects itself...

    Vanguard easily.

FFXIV actually looks quite bad, the terrain is copied everywhere, the towns are deserted and shallow.

LOTRO has some very beautiful areas in it. I still stop and just look around in that game. When I got to Moria I remember spending hours just exploring and looking at all the really breath taking visuals it had to offer.

I would say LOTRO-VANGUARD for scenery and AOC for character models graphics.

I have not played C9 nor Tera which is not released yet and thus does not really count. The work with lighting and shadow is imo still unmatched in AoC, it's pretty crazy even for single player game.

It also might be my personal preference but I really dislike Unreal 3 engine. I yet have to see game that looks good - yes, I even dislike Fallout 3 graphics. Somehow, the colors are 'faded', I miss the 'plasticity', everything looks somehow 'sharp' and 'edgy' instead of smooth and rounded.

CryEngine > UE , imo, tons fold. I cannot recall the game but there is(are) some already developed under CryEngine (2). That will be a blast imo.

However, the engine and the 'intense' graphics does not really matter, what matters is if the final result looks good. Which is something a matter of how you use technology available, not how much you use it - which is the case of AoC.

AoC at launch; but runs like butter now.

They did update particle effects when they changed the warp effect. I believe it was right before they revamped the stars and planets. I love the look of eve. They redid the sun a few months ago it's freaking breath taking. Anyway the op is asking for opinions so it's cool that you don't agree. I just think it all comes together beautifully again my opinion.

Yep, it was done with Apocrypha. They implemented SM3 support and still, after year and a half later they do not use their technology at their potential.

The best looking effect is RR drones, imo, it is just awesome. The same effect was presented on Fanfest earlier year. That is what engine is capable of and how the game could/should lok like. You will wait LONG time time till CCP will update all effects to same level though...

It gives us something to look forward to aye? Knowing the game could be updated to keep up with the times is a relief IMO.

As far as ive seen and played Star Trek Online broght my oldish computer to its knees . It has some really bad coding I think but from what ive seen it has GREAT space and ship graphics .

  • scuubeedooscuubeedoo Member Posts: 458

    Most graphically intense:

    1. Dawntide (due to being in beta i guess)

    2. Everquest II

    3. FFXIV

    Best graphics-wise:

    1. Face of Mankind

    2. DDO

    3. Warhammer Online

"Traditionally, massively multiplier online games have been about three basic gameplay pillars – combat, exploration and character progression. In Alganon, in addition to these we've added the fourth pillar to the equation: Copy & Paste."

AoC.  Great graphics quality, great art design, great effects.  #1 by a landslide.

EVE.   Looks great, but space only stays entertaining for so long.

LoTRO - lotro graphics quality isn't great.  the animations are bad.  but the art design is fantastic, which makes the game beautiful and immersive to experience.

EQ2 - it's the opposite of LoTRO, the art design is /meh, but for a 6-year-old game, the animations and spells effects are just awesomely smooth and the models look great (especially the non-human ones - Ratonga, Iksar, Kerra).

"I’d rather work on something with great potential than on fulfilling a promise of mediocrity."

    Favourites: AO,SWG,EVE,TR,LoTRO,TSW,EQ2, Firefall

I really liked AoCs graphics, until i noticed the 2D grass and 2D trees, for some reason it just really annoyed me, and now i really dont like it anymore. Either LOTRO or Aion has the best graphics imo. Champions Online also looked relaly good tho.

  • smutsmut Member Posts: 250

AoC and LOTRO fully maxed out at 1920x1080p with DirectX 10/11 on.

It has to be... Hands down... EvE.  Shooting at plus signs from my ship really puts me in the pilot seat.  Just kidding.  I love EvE. :D  Great topic!

When I played Lineage 2, I though "ok, character models are good now, I dont need anything better than that." Thats still true, even if L2 had some really ugly races (male dwarves, eww). GW has compareable graphics in this respect. Very beautiful.

Vanguard had amazing viewing distances. I loved it for that.

C9 have better gfx than AoC, atleast imo, played each one for almost a year, the problem of C9 is if you can consider it a MMO, the gameplay is similar to Guild Wars or Vindictus, which none of them i think are MMO's, but thats another history, anyway the combination of the C9 gfx with their combat system is just shocking.

For its time EQ2 had awesome gfx also, was very impressive, still holds in today market imo.

And yes, waiting also for a MMO with Cryengine 2, it could be jaw dropping.

    Vanguard has amazing graphic quality.

EQ2 with shader 3.0 looks really good too.  This game also put the most strain on my system under highest settings.

Aion looks good from a distance, don't look too close though.

FFXIV, good quality graphics but feels bland.

Eve Has cool ship models but without AA the jagged edges kill it for me. (last time I played it had no AA)

Disclaimer: These are just my opinions.

Age of Conan wins best graphics pretty much hands down. I liked Aion's graphics as well.

AoC is best at the moment. When we will be able to have AoC graphism with "no zoning" or very large map i will be happy ^_^
