Quote from Gameinformer, "If you like sending you rush early and don’t have the patience or time to spend 10+ hours on a single map you might want to pass this one up but, keep it windowed in the background for a couple days and take your time. This game is amazing."
(...)
While I have played "rush" in games I also enjoy a slow, methodical attack strategy. So, if Gameinformer's quote is correct I may enjoy Civ 5.
Again, does anyone agree with the above quote?
They are correct. Cities are no longer defenseless hubs that can be invaded with a lone warrior. In Civ V, they can attack and defend themselves without any army stationed inside its wall (though an army will improve its strength). I haven't played a game for domination victory yet, but I did invade few cities with the help of 3 warrior battalions supported by my archers.
Thank you for taking time to answer my question, I appreciate it.
What are your feelings regarding multiplayer?
For those that have played multipayer what do you think of the following review? The way the game is said to operate reminds me a little of multiplayer for Total Annihilation [1997], I am sure there are other like games regarding multiplayer, however, my memory does not work very well.
I wish I knew how it is by myself. My husband and me bought two copies to replay our old battles we did in the Civ IV era. Alas on both our computes Civ V continually crashed. Seems no fix or patch from the official forum helped us, and it seems to crash for many. Quite a letdown. Guess we have to wait for a fix. Why everything is rushed and released buggy these days is beyond me though. Pay and wait for the game to work.

I assume you tried with DX9? It doesn't seem this game plays well on every computers. I know for a fact that on my 2 years old gaming laptop, I can hardly run DX10/11, but it runs "fine" on DX9. Otherwise on my gaming desktop computer it never crashed.
And sorry swing848, I never really got into multiplayer for Civilization, so I cannot comment on this one.
Yeah, played it at a friend and I must say it is an excellent game, all in all, and I completely agree with the OP. Amazingly, by whittling away redundant complexities they made the actual gameplay MORE complex and interesting. Kudos to the wargame design team behind it, they did an awesome job. It is amazing how elegantly it plays now, compared to the bloated monstrosity that it threatened to ultimately become. Less is more and that is especially true in game design.
I find Civ 5 to be extremely shallow compared to IVBTS. There are very few buildings (food, culture, +xp, production, science) types as most newer era buildings are mostly just upgrades of the previous building. The wonders are boring and I find dont really make an impact on my game. The only luxury resource that matters at all is marble due to its +25% wonder production rate, perhaps one or two other luxuries determines whether what buildings you can build but its quite minor. Social Policies are ok but unchangable which is unrealistic. Tile improvements are also lackluster hardly providing any benefits, just the fact that you trading post spam your entire nation is poor, also restricting me not allowing me to build what I want on a specific resource (like no trading post or farm on sheep)
While they added the great 1UPT and hex system to provide for more tactical battles, it's like the AI wasn't upgraded to understand how to use these features to it's advantage. Want to test that? Choose any leader (works best with Alexander, Askia would be another good choice but you should have won the game before you get your UU, any leader will work though) any difficulty and pangaea map, beeline horseback riding, build 3-5 horses and conquer the world. The computer wont know what to do with you.
As far as I see it, Civ 5 is made for the iPhone or facebook generation, strip down its graphic requirements and it's one button gameplay could easily come to a smartphone near you.

Heartily recommend it!
