You will start at level 1 in the alternate class, your skill points will be returned to base levels and you will raise the skill points you want to raise in your new primary class every level you gain.

Edit: Oh yeah, whoops, you are referring to stats. Sorry about that.

The OP is referring to stats, not skill points.

@ OP You can re-assign stat points every so often, 20 mins i read somewhere.

wow, so your stats don't change when you change classes, but they still don't see a reason to let you make an alt without paying for it?

I figured you would have different stat sets for different classes, or maybe you keep a fraction of your highest class on top of what you have for your new class something like that, but you have to reassign stat points? I don't know I'm just asking, seems kinda unbelievable though.

Yes, your stats stay the same but if your going to be mainly tanking or something obvisouly put most of your stats in there.  You have to remember when i a group you're probably going to be playing one role the whole way through.  If you want to switch to a different job for a decent amount of time redistribute your stats.  Or simple make a pretty well balanced char.

No i did this before but there is actually not that much of a reason to do this an waste of time... especially in this version of FF. You can change you points around everytime you level up an/or they slowly can be changed every couple hours. This is all done from the point allocation menu in the menu  (12 points at a time about). Since you have 1 character an can have them all on 1 there is no need for any alts. Free attribute allocation which you  start mixing classes around.

My biggest fear of this game is what and where to assign stats.  I think in a lot of ways I prefer a system when you level up your stats just naturally increase.  I am not entirely sure about this, I guess I'll become more comfortable with it when I start playing...but that was the one thing playing on my mind.

What? Isn't this game suppose to be "figure it out" kind of adventure? You know, click until you find it thing? Not holding hands like...WoW? Or is it a social thing when you are unable to figure it out by thinking and go on public fourms to figure it out. [shrug].

Haven't started playing yet.  But I'll keep that in mind.
