They are referring back to this video from August

I personally love the idea of incorporating that great art intoo these cinematics, it works much more like the good old fashioned Dungeon Master then pre-rendered video's.  We need to see how this works out in game, but i think it will do okay.

Basically this allows Arenanet to make the thousands of needed cutscenes in a costefficient way.

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

Said character did not walk no, but he/she did move. (even if it was slightly, with her/his hands and with her/his head)

It's kinda cruel to kill the innocent monsters standing in the fields picking daisies. -GW2-

I think the reason the devs are so proud of this feature is not just because the character is part of the cinematic its because they found a way to combine their 2D concept art style with 3D ingame assets. The combinations of 2D and 3D art is indeed something we havent seen so far in any other MMO or Online RPG. It is also note worthy that these cinematics are rendered in realtime (not like many cgi vids which are prerendered movies)  therefore it is possible to show your character with all of his current equipment and  change parts of the videos based on your decisions through out your personal storyline.

I love the idea. Their concept art is fantastic and I'm so happy that I'll be able to watch it animated ingame.

Awesome tool they have created. We haven't seen this in an MMO yet and i think it has a lot of potential. Nothing pre-rendered, all done within the game. This is a pretty classy game as far as artwork goes. You usually only ever see some artwork concepts released by gaming companies during their alpha stages and then you never see it again. I love how they are incororating it into the game. Very stylish.

    Archlinux ftw

That last part made a dramatic impression on me. This art direction was intentional though, the way the camera looks upward, character standing tall and looking like he/she is having deep thoughts , the speech delivery of the monologue, the drizzle, the lightning and the concept art and the sound.

The storybook cinematic does look refreshing for an MMO.

Playing now: Cities: Skyline / Ori and the Blind Forest / Banished
