I have played WoW for 5 years, and quit. I have the perfect analogy to explain to everyone what GW2 is going to do to WoW. Listen....
" Imagine WoW being a giant dragon and GW2 happens to be a knight that has slain many other dragons. One day the two cross paths and the knight challenges the dragon. The knight claims he can kill the dragon in one hit so he chucks his sword at the HUGE dragon. The sword penetrates the dragons scales and severally injuries the dragon. It doesn't kill the dragon, just simply severally injuries it. The knight leaves and the dragon remains injured. Overtime, the dragon's wound will eventually heal and it would simply just have a scar to represent the injury the knight has caused."
That is how i see this playing out. WoW will temporarilly lose A LOT of their subscriptions for a period of time. Eventually though they will gain it back and learn from this encounter.....I am a GW2 fan and i love the game, but nothing can ever "KILL" wow, only injury it on a heavy scale
Problem is WOW has such a good and much, advertisement. So everyones playing WoW.
I play it due to my IRL friends playing it.. I don't really want to, but its not fun playing an mmo, irl mates isn't playing
its also the best game in that genre, as yet there arent any games even in development that are as good, let alone better, until that changes, Blizzard will continue to rule the fantasy genre, and as long as they keep on working on WoW, it means that any company trying, has to try that much harder - not sure if thats such a good thing as perhaps a number of games that may have been successful in their own right, if not in WoW terms, but were dissuaded from trying because of this monolithic entity that WoW has become. At the moment im playing Eve and WoW, have been for a few years now, their the best at what they do, and i dont see any games currently out, or in development even, that are likely to make me change my online gaming habits... about the most they can hope for with GW2 is that it will be as successful as the original GW.. and theres nothing wrong with that
You are wrong OP, Guild Wars 2 will not kill WoW!....I shall kill WoW! Equipped with naught but my hairy chest and fists like cold hard steel! And when I am done I shall stand atop my kill and let forth the mightest of bellows for all to hear!
Everytime I see one, I''m like hmm they say that now, but when it releases, it won't just like every other MMO before...
But on the darker side of my soul, I want one of these posts to come true, and watch WoW die a horrible burning death.
Well I personally do not care what happens to WoW, I played it when it was fun, now it's just for the masses too easy to get anything in the game... so to me the game died a long time ago.
I am still in the search of something fun, will I play GW2? yes, do I want it to be a WoW Killer? I couldn't care less...

To the OP,the bigest reason it will not kill any game is becaue of the dumb F2P idea.
F2P creates the WORST communities in games, that is because nobody cares about being banned nor do they care what they say in the game. Also when a game creates a solo like atmosphere people don't have to get along, again chat becomes a pile of nursery school spam.
The F2P option also allows every single Wow player to maintain their account, because they don't have to afford two accounts as GW2 will be free,so as you see nobody from Wow will shut down their accounts.GW2 does nothing to force a decision between one game or another.
As to bragging about GW,.i wonder how many would be doing the early bandwagon jumping if it were not a F2P structure?Personally i do not buy much into early videos either,i like to wait and see what the actual product will be come Beta release.
From my personal standpoint,i have no problem with paying to play a game,so the cost has no bearing what so ever on weather i play a game or not. Here is my dilemma.....How does A-Net plan on running an amazing game that continuously eats away at their profits?A couple ways that i can think of,digital download that uses your bandwidth,so little to no cost except the file storage, basically free.Running the game will again use a lot of the players bandwidth.Last option, low end graphics, low poly maps, tons of instancing, this is what GW1 was and it all made sense to keep cost down,i really think GW2 will remain the same,i do not expect hi end graphics. If they keep the polys down for each zone, they can give it the feel of an open world, because small amounts of caching won't be noticed, similar to Wow.

Oh don't worry there are some bad communities even in P2P. But I do agree they will probably be alot more immature players, scammers, trolls etc. Hopefully tho the ingame GM's or whatever crack down hard on this sort of behaviour. The general customer shouldn't be turned away from a game just because of it's community. I think WoW has horrible communities on some servers, but some are rich and full of lifely, and friendly mature people, a rare gem.
On a side note, I never played Guild Wars 1, and kind of regret it. My computer was not up to scratch at that time, so I never experienced it. I'll be doing lots of research before I fork out cash for GW2, even if there is no monthy fee (which is attractive), it has to have core featues at least, general stuff like banks, auction houses/market system, guilds, crafting you know the basic bread and butter of a MMO.
seriously....100k or 100 million...does it really matter?
Not at all. That number is broken up by servers anyway. Does it really matter how many people are playing on other servers when yours is capped? Such a broken argument, but the "numbers = truth" argument is always thrown out there by insecure people. Ke$ha sold a ton of albums, does that make her good?
Either way, GW2 will either be good or it won't be. That's how it always breaks down. The dev team can spin whatever they like and people can think whatever they like, but bottom line it's all rumours and spin. Every MMO goes through the same hype/hate cycle and you'd think people would learn but alas, screaming like children in line for the next tickle me elmo is human condition anymore.
Actually.....no. It's not an "either or" situation. Some people will undoubtedly think GW2 is amazing....others....will not. Just like with WoW, EQ2, Aion, and every other game under the sun.
For someone giving other people shit about being stupid...I have to say that thinking in such black and white only terms....doesn't show a great degree of intelligence either. Whether a game is "good" is a pretty subjective judgment call when it comes to what players think.
You're looking for any argument you can aren't you? It's kinda cute in that "he might be retarded" way. While I'm sure ellipses makes your "argument" dwarf mine, allow me to explain. "Good" is an opinion term, therefore always subjective, thus in this situation it is an apt description. Welcome to the English language. To save you time in trying to add any extra terminology/implied meanings I'll be blatant; you're still a child flailing around, screaming "pay attention to me, everything I say is correct because I can say it." You should quit that, it's not an incorrigible trait and you might be able to save some face if you fix it.

Had you not argued a vain point, which you now neglect, I wouldn't have had to repeat it. Second, I don't care what you are, you're still an overbearing "accept my opinion as fact!" zealot on the internet. I'm glad you can read my profile and see my age and thusly make assumptions based on it. The bottom line is you still took my statement out of context, attempted to pull an implied meaning out of it (which cemented my point, but that's past now) just for argument's sake. I wasn't trying to sound anything, btdubs, I was merely responding. You're random internet person #987987438, so why would I care about sounding "more intellectual"? Utilizing a wide vocabulary apparently equals intelligent now, rather than just someone that just enjoys reading/writing. Now with this post I can only assume you're trolling or incredibly ignorant, as what I stated (and you claimed you did also) was that it will be black and white. People will like it, or they won't. Hype will not affect the finished product, and it will come down to that lone sentiment. Now that you've doubled back on your original "point", one would hope you'd move on.
hahaha, one can never get enough of these threads.....
joke aside, why would anyone with common sense wanted whole d***bag community from that game, to leave it and to cross over into this game. Its like wanting to shoot yourself in a mouth willingly. I say: NO, thanks

I dont think you have to worry about that. Most of us play WOW because nothing else is as good and other than maybe RIft I dont see anying on the horizon. As for WOW killers wasnt that supposed to AOC or was it Warhammer ? No wait I know, it was Aion.
WOW isnt great because it has 12 million players. WOW has 12 million players because its great.

Only Wow will kill Wow. True story. Wow will eventually die due to the removal/reduction of content. No game will simply transplant all WOW subs in a single release.
Now that you've doubled back on your original "point", one would hope you'd move on.
ROFLMAO. Well now I see that you may LIKE to read, but you certainly don't always comprehend WHAT you read. I haven't changed my opinion at all, either in regards to GW2 OR....to you. But if you'd like to THINK I've "doubled back" and that makes you feel like a bigger man.....that's fine with me.
AGAIN: GW2 will have people who love it and play it and people who don't and won't....just like every other damn game on the market, none of which can be unequivocally described as "good" or "bad" just because you have an opinion about them. It's what makes these forums so laughable. Millions of people can think a game is good while millions of others think it sucks. Who's right? NEITHER...and BOTH. It's pointless argument.
Now where exactly am I saying something that isn't true? I have yet to figure out just where you think I'm bullishly determined I'm "right." The only thing I'm "right" about is how futile arguing about something so subjective is....and that's ALL anyone does on these forums.
Only Wow will kill Wow. True story. Wow will eventually die due to the removal/reduction of content. No game will simply transplant all WOW subs in a single release.
I agree. But then....I'm sure we're both "wrong," to someone reading the forums. Because after all....we have to argue, ya know? LOL

That's exactly what I said in the first place. You're trying to staple this definition of "definitive" to good, when it's a by person thing. You said it wasn't black and white, then, again, in that statement alone you present it as such. It's just like anything else, either it will or it won't happen. For someone attempting to insult someone's reading comprehension, you might want to have graduated remedial middle school yourself. You can't even follow your own words.
On another thought, I see what you're doing, I can do it too. /postcount. You should try just doing that part now instead of starting arguments over vapid things constantly.
Apologies for throwing a brake on the thread (I guess, dumb thread anyway), probably should have learned from the 4 pages or so of arguing over the definition of clone that it'd be like talking to a brick wall.
Seriously? I'm so tired of the "X" game is going to kill World of Warcraft argument. Firstly, it's never going to happen and secondly, who really cares? I don't say that to be rude or mean but what difference does it really make as long as games like Guild Wars 2 or Finaly Fantasy XIV have a healthy customer base. I'm pretty sure that's all that's important. I've played World of Warcraft off and on. The truth is that I couldn't tell the difference between the game having 11 million subscribers and 400,000 subscribers. I do wish Guild Wars 2 all the luck in the world as I'm sure it'll do fine but... it really doesn't matter how many subs it's gonna get... but it's not going to get more than World of Warcraft and WoW isn't about to die anytime soon.
Firstly, qualify your argument. Secondly, this thread has 15 pages of posts. Someone cares, apparently.

Main MMO at the moment: Guild Wars 2
Waiting for: Pathfinder Online
Only Wow will kill Wow. True story. Wow will eventually die due to the removal/reduction of content. No game will simply transplant all WOW subs in a single release.

I agree. But then....I'm sure we're both "wrong," to someone reading the forums. Because after all....we have to argue, ya know? LOL

Killl Killll Killl that damm game I say!! :P
Firstly, qualify your argument. Secondly, this thread has 15 pages of posts. Someone cares, apparently.
