I love reading the FF14 Forums because I find it entertaining,
Watching the fans, and see how far they will go to convince others that this game is good. Do I play " NO ", Can I post " YES ". Because mmorpg.com is based on general MMO gaming, and part of that is for others to get an idea if they would like to play an mmo.
It was said, and for the most part provin during beta that FF14 was not good. Some were expecting a miracle patch at release. Now because I'm a vet here and seen many Bata's/release. I have yet to see this miracle patch on the release of any mmo.
I love when people say try it yourself. YES to a point, but when their is clear cut evidence that something is bad NO. Am I the only one that can learn from others ?
Am I mad......Yes I'm mad !.......Why ?........because the small guy with very little money is getting riped off, because of Box sales.
Who am I mad at :
1) Square Enix-For promoting an un finished game, that had changed the un spoken rules of mmo UI and keyboard with very little warning to the public.
2) Some times, freedom of advertisement to allow garbage on the market. ( nothing in place to oversee video games ).
3) Fan's- Thy are really out for them self's when you think about it. Talking others into a game for a player base. Trolling is a two way street !
Am I trolling........No.........I'll say it again, NO.........I'm not posting for amusement. I posting because I'm mad ! I'm now promoting Vanguard. You know why because it's fixed. Many are enjoying it, now....Would I have a right to be here on the FF14 forum a year from now IF Square Enix fixes this broken game. No, then that would be trolling !

First off you have not even played the game, so your point of view is pointless. Secondly there are as many people who like it as there are those that don't(just go to Metacritic or Amazon or Gamespot or even here and you will find the reviews split down the middle). Thirdly nobody has proven this to be a bad game at all, in fact I would say that all the servers being filled and the fact SE has had to open a couple more proves otherwise. This is not Champions Online or Star Trek Online where an incompetent developer made an incompetent game, no on the contrary SE made a solid but slightly different MMO. All the complaints just boil down to gameplay preferences not bad core mechanics.

I'm going to assume that you DID play the game for a sufficient amount of time to come to this assumption and didn't base most of your opinion off what people on the forum say. Now this being said, yes FFXIV does have some bugs, but to call the game unfinished is going a little too far. You have legitimate reason to be angry though, the market wards are an atrocious abomination from the darkest depths and need to be dealt with in a timely fashion (A.K.A. ASAP). But really other than the market wards I've had a grand old time, I've played non-stop since Closed Beta and the game has a surprising amount of content for lower levels that seems to be lacking in other games. I'm never just sitting there doing nothing, I am crafting, I am doings leves, I'm gathering, I'm killing enemies, I'm doing the storyline (which is actually interesting believe it or not), ect. I mean the list seems to go on for me. I don't think the game is unfinished, I just think people need a new perspective and to take this game from a different approach than they have every other mmo.
Fans are out for themselves? Well why should you expect them to be any different than you? While I agree the premise behind FF as an mmo series is garbage I tihnk you ae going overboard, many people seemed to have tried and not liked FF but equally many people do seem to like the game now what purpose does this post or your actions serve in regards to the people who think it's a fine game, nothing because you are simply out for self with this post.
And honestly if you played a game and enjoyed the game why wouldn't you suggest that others may like it too? I don't think there are any ulterior motives with that, hell often times if you just ask someone they will tell you what you may not like about the game anyway, but I rarely if ever have seen someone suggest a game they didn't genuinely enjoy playing.
You've actually labelled the game broken without having ever played it? I'm sorry attitudes like yours is equally what's wrong with the mmo genre, as usual if something isn't made for you in mind you have to flame it to no end but only on an mmorpg forum will you hear someone procliam for all to here that they have no clue what they are talking about and then going on to waste everyones time with a post making accusations of things you couldn't even be aware of.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
Okay another clone post of why you don't like the game.
Actually this one is worse because you haven't played it and are basing your opinions on what has been posted so far. Also you say that you aren't trolling, and doing this for your own amusement? Umm... That is what a troll is... Making this bizarre post so you can get hostile reactions and wind everyone up for a laugh.
Just an fyi... I've been playing since release and I'm having a good time. As a more casual gamer, I have really enjoyed the questing system and how I can log on and knock out some levequest quickly and still fell like I'm getting stuff done. I also really enjoy crafting for the first time ever.
The one thing I hate... I mean really hate.... with the fury of a thousand jungle beast... is the market system. They need a gd auction house. If I have to click through 300 people to find an item again, I'm gonna loose it. If they could just add a better market system, I would be pretty happy. One thing I surely love is the class system, as you're able to experience all classes with the switch of a weapon/tool.
But, like I said, I am really enjoying the game, probably due to the amount of time I have to play (a hour or so a night). If I were a hardcore WoW gamer like some of my younger friends (2-4 hours a night), I could see not liking the game.
Vanguard is fixed?
hmm I find that hard to believe, afterall its down to a skeleton staff, its on life support at SOE and the endgame is just not there unless your a Raider, in which case you are sorted
And yes I played VG from launch, I stayed through all teh bugs and issue, played right until the launch that included the Bridge and then it fell apart after that, unintended bugs, annoying AI etc and eventually they dropped all the content they had been working on and turned on the life support,
SOE is more interested in using what they learned from this to put into EQ3 imo

You don't like it and apparently your opinion means more than someone who disagrees with you. It's not that the people who like the game just have different tastes from you, it's that they're trying to hurt people and lie to them... and you're going to RESCUE THEM! *rolls eyes*

I guess people didn't see a couple of my posts, not that you have to ,any real fan has been reading the Tanaka Q/A's.Tanaka and Sqaure Enix are not impressed by the release, this is why they are addressing EVERY single issue that has been talked about for weeks now.A develoepr does not fix soemthing that people like,c'mon now so many of you keep acting like Fanbois instead of realistis.
I could have posted quotes on EVERY single issue, and i did have the entire post made up until this sites anti Firfox messed it up.The part with the UI was sort of patched for release, but the yadmitted problems beyond just a hardware patch, they said they would be addressing it beyond release .
Biggest reason this game is not what it should be is because Tanaka allowed others to make the decisions for this game,he was in full command of FFXI,Tanka himself beleives FFXI is the best game,of course that can be taken as bias from him but i tend to agree.
Just a few tidbits of problems that beta testers were experiencing, one day before main release.
* Updates pertaining to synthesis are as follows:
Fix:
-Fixed an issue where synthesis was prone to failure due to the effects of basic synthesis actions (such as "Standard," "Rapid," and "Bold") not working correctly.
Fix:
-As a result of an adjustment made to the basic synthesis actions, using "Rapid" commands will incur a higher loss of durability and using "Standard" commands will incur a lower loss of durability.
Fix:
* Fixed an issue preventing players from exchanging /tells and other chat commands.
Fix:
* Fixed an issue causing the "Hasty Hand" ability to succeed regardless of synthesis difficulty under certain conditions.
NOTE: This issue was addressed during the version update performed on Sep. 29, 2010 at 3:00AM (PDT). We apologize for the late announcement
BTW there was a bug where by you get extra xp for healing,Square was warning of bans if exploiting it,just another in the long line of mess ups.
Tanaka's words...
PT: I personally believe FFXI is an example of the best form of MMORPGs, and I feel proud of what FFXI has become over the past 8 years. However, my opinion is not the only one out there, and others have a different idea of what the ideal MMORPG is. FFXIV was the product of what Director Komoto and the others thought would make the ideal MMORPG
A. We have continued to receive copious amounts of feedback regarding changes that players would like to see made to the market system. As a result, we are planning a number of revisions and additions to the system, the first of which are scheduled to be implemented in the next one to two weeks
They actually lied when confronted about the Fatigue system. They tried to make it sound like it wasn't a Fatigue system it was a bonus system, even Fanbois were trying to convey this, well here is the REAL reason...they WERE attacking players who played too much.
we wanted people to know this will only affect people who do nothing but play. We predict that 95% of players will not be affected by this system
We also implemented this as a measure to protect against RMT, and we think they’re the only ones who will really feel the pinch of the surplus system
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Here I am, too defend the initial thread poster. Ive played the game dear Presbytier. I bought the SE and I can assure you there is more that is wrong than just the gameplay prefrences. And if you think this games mechanics are good? Well then, it appears this is the first game you have ever played since you aren't aware of all the games out there that have good mechanics. That and the fact that the server lag is so bad from them not having any State side servers that the combat is made even more difficult. Yes, I have played the game and have the SE edition box, which I must say was very lackluster as far as bonus items that I got. If thats a CE edition box, then Im exited about the prize at the bottom of the cracker jack boxes. No Presbytier, this game has no content. It doesn't have any real quests, and its an all around ripoff that runs poorly on PC's. People can't even alt+tab out of this game without it crashing and shuttings itself down. As far as you even saying that this game is as bad as Star Trek online of Champions, have you played those games? Seriously, I have no idea how you can defend this game. Like the poster of this thread however, this game stimulated me to re-sub too Everquest 2 where there actually is content and the developers work hard on the game. Im not sure about Vanguard, but I am sure that thiis poster is right considering he is sharp enough to realize that FFXIV is such crap. I mean seriously, I have played PSP and DS games that actually have more quests and content than FFXIV, and that isn't joking. I think that its the reason why forums are out there. For people to warn other players as well and let other players know of how good a game is. But stop a minute and think of one thing though. What games that are actually really good have such a high level of absulutely furious posters? Not many. There are people that don't like a game in particular and find that it isn't for them, but then there are games that make people feel like they have just been robbed of their money, and that is exactly what FFXIV, pure and simple robbery. Gaming fans don't deserve this.
But did you have fun playing the game?
Could it be just a case of a few people not understanding the simple concept of ... "no pain, no gain."
Playing and having a great time. I am getting my money's worth.
"Unfinished" game is subjective. There's enough content NOW to justify the $12.99 sub fee.
I quest, craft, leve, behest, faction leve, gather.... The foundation is there. There has never been a time where I say to myself.... "ok, so what do I do now?"
That's the beauty of a horizontal progression game. You make yourself better by leveling other classes and crafts, even if your main class isn't getting ranks at a "Wow" pace. This game has always been about the journey, just like FFXI. Other games are about the destination. Nothing wrong with that, I just prefer the former over the latter.
Ok, this is not an allegation of any sort but, I think it's a question worth asking since it is very relevant as it pertains to the subject at hand.
Are you on drugs, or no?
If yes, that may very well explain your above statement.
If no, we may have to continue with this debate.
I have to agree. I've never liked rushing to the end game. It's a game I should be able to enjoy it the whole time not just race to be with everyone else.
That's right.... i'm pretending.
Get over yourself (lol). It's not my fault you have a closed mind and narrow view of things. It's one thing to not like a game, it's another to attack others that do. IF you can't see why its even possible for someone else to like a game, then you need break out of your shell and expand your mind.
this was probably the most groundless post I've ever read about any game, ever.
Should be deleted.

Relax ... so defensive. It was a simple yes/no question, not an accusation.
Now your response, on the other hand, was an attack toward me. But I won't take it as personal.
I understand it's important to you, but excuse me if I don't share your passion.
We are, afterall, on a forum board discussing a video game.
Hardly worth hyper-ventilating over.
You basically said the only way he could be enjoying this game was if he was on drugs, so yes that is an accusation and a baseless one at that.

Hush ... don't tell that to Hrayr over there.
He seems to be very passionate about this subject.
Might bite your head off.
Technically, an MMO is never "finished".
That said, there were certain things (and still are) that I find sloppy work by the developers.
First off try to make your rebuttal make since and have cohesion, secondly I have been playing MMOs since Ultima Online(check my profile), and thirdly can you actually come up with any real reasons as to why this game will fail/suck/worst MMO ever. Lag is something every MMO deals with at launch. Also the game has Story Quests as well as Guild Leves(which is the same thing as a quest).
In the end it seems you did not like this game and are too incompetent to realize that that is based on your personal tastes and that some people may like this game. I mean why are you so volatile to anybody who even remotely says they like this game; that is a completely unreasonable position to hold.

Did I really basically say "that the only way he could be enjoying this game was if he was on drugs," or is that what you made up I said?
Stop being such an instigator.
You said that if he where on drugs that would explain his statement of liking the game; that is an accusation, so don't be so naive to pretend otherwise.

Being under the influence of drugs is a tangible explaination for increased enjoyment by anyone in the performance of any of a number of things, including playing games. It is, for the most part, why people do drugs. To ask the question is not an accusation or insult, but a statement of fact.
So the question is asked because It is not unreasonable to expect one to enjoy something more while under the influence. If one is not under the influence of drugs, then all one has to say is "no, I was not under the influence of drugs, and in fact sober while playing the game, and I still enjoyed the game.
It was a simple yes/no question, and it was posed half jokingly at that.
You FFXIV lovers are seriously on the defensive about this game.
Get a hold of yourselves!
Do you really expect anyone to believe that you asked the question for the sole purpose of asking a question. That type of question and the assumption you made based upon the possible answer only indicates that you believe the only way he could be enjoying the game was if he was on drugs.
This has nothing to do with us "FFXIV LOVERS BEING DEFENSIVE"; that very statement demonstrates that your motive was to cause strife in some hope as painting FFXIV fans as being unreasonable or overly defensive. So as the other person said "get over yourself".

I don't know how anyone could continue to vehemently defend this game in its current state. It is almost unplayable. It was released far too early. I hope that SE's wishes are abided by and no review be made for another month (that's sort of telling isn't it). The gaming media would rip this game apart as it is. Will it get fixed? Some things will, but at a snails pace looking at SE's track record with XI.
The first thing that needs fixed is the retainer system. I've not seen a worse system designed for game economy. Not only does it fail miserably at its intended purpose, but it creates massive amounts of lag. The second thing that needs fixed is the menu lag. The problem is compounded when you have to open menus on top of menus on top of menus. That would be a huge step forward.
Do they have a QA team? What the hell were the beta testers doing? How in the world did they decide the entire UI being server side was a good idea? The fact that the entire UI is server side leads me to believe that it's not changing any time soon. I find it impossible to believe that SE is comfortable with the game in its current state, yet their silence is deafening.
At this point I hope after the first 30 days that the game takes a major nosedive into oblivion. Perhaps that will wake SE up. They need to learn that just because a game has moogles, chocobos and Final Fantasy in the title that it can still fail.
"This game isn't for you."
I saw that over and over and over again when people complained. What a load of shit. This game simply isn't ready yet. It should still be in late alpha early beta.
