Now that FFXIV has come and gone for some of us, being as it sucks and gives a whole new meaning to "bored". What do we play now to pass the time till the next big 3? FFXIV really screwed me up on this as I was expecting to play it until one of these games had launched.
Now I find myself thinking about playing something else, anything really, that I can set goals that will take 6 months to complete even if it means spreading those goals out over a few different games.
We have Cata in December...which is fine but that's 2 months away. I have LOTRO characters to work on, so I'm wondering where else to set some goals.
Basically consider this thread like me saying what are you playing now? but with the hopes that some of you are just playing whatever to get over the "hump" of the next MMO drought.
I hope this made sense...I'm not even sure it made sense to me, rofl. Maybe I should go grab a brewskie while you guys answer.

Lego Universe.
Back to EQ2. Again. Until SOE does something else stupid... should only take them til umm let's see, the next update.
Well, I'm somewhat disappointed here. Two Worlds 2 has been pushed back, DCUO has also been pushed back to the first month of 2011 (really, not even sure that it will be worth it at that time), FFXIV isn't appealing to me in the least... so my gaming plans have been officially cattled.
Luckily there are still some titles that haven't been pushed back that still appeal to me, though they are still a little ways off. We have Fable 3, GT5, The Force Unleashed 2, Fallout NV. .. .. maybe Gothic IV.
I always have Global Agenda to fall back on too.....
Elocke, actually you should continue playing FF14. 96 hours nonstop killing mobs, and everytime you killed a mob, a rat, a mushroom whatever you have to shout "I WILL NEVER BUY A GAME AT RELEASE AGAIN, IF THE BETA REVIEWS ARE MOSTLY NEGATIVE!" Because you deserved it.
Ontopic: I currently play no MMOs. I downloaded Sim City 4 deluxe for 15 bucks on Steam yesterday... it is not bad.
I've personally written EQ2 off, since the last patch where they ruined the combat/spell effects which were one of EQ2s shining sell points. Now the game is just dull and runs like crap even on newer PCs.
But yeah, I guess that's an option for some.
More GW1, and the occasional Torchlight and Star Trek DAC session (all still fun games imho) until GW2 comes out or we get some hard release date numbers...
Enslaved: Odyssey to the West was released today. I didn't think very much of the game, until I played the demo and was floored by how amazing it was. The best way I can describe it is to say that it's a mixture of Uncharted and some hack and slash action game. I plan on buying it once I have a large amount of free time.

While Im waiting for GW2 Im playing LOTRO f2p. If/when I feel the game gets too resricted coz I have too few turbine points then I will try EQ2 and ROM again. When I get bored of that then hopefully GW2 is about to be released.
Would also have liked to play Vindictus, but seems to be no plan of releasing it in Europe.
Age of COnan.
ESPN's new college town game on Facebook. Okay, maybe not. Saw the ad while watching MNF, went to the site, saw it was a facebook app, and left... shame on them for not making it clear in the ad that it was a Facebook app.
Course, this brings up the question of do we "need" to play a game?
Are we addicted?
I know I am.
That is why I went to that website.

I would suggest trying a few of the last remaining oldschool non cookie cutter mmo's: anarchy online, saga of ryzom, darkfall, ultima online, Istaria.
That looks really good. I may not buy it right off the bat either, I'll wait for a review or two, I'll definitely try the Demo though.
I was thinking about this. Has the game been better optimized since the expansion came out? I remember I kept crashing in the new zone and I just unsubbed due to technical issues. Did they fix anything pertaining to load times or graphics or lag in the new areas?
AoC is a good game to play for a month or 2 to pass some time.

But I plan to stay this way, lol. I don't watch a lot of tv instead I game. To me the addiction isn't a problem, of course I don't let it run my life, I do work and play with my children after school and spend some time with the wife, but the REST of my time is spent gaming in MMOs.
Been playing Guild wars and purchased all the expansions. Factions, Nighfall, and Eye of the North all have some great gameplay. Plenty there to keep me busy until GW2 arrives. It's a pretty solid game, so that is why i am pretty confident GW2 is going to be a success.
Archlinux ftw
Playing Borderlands, way fun solo and multi.
Sadly, every single one of those games I've tried in the last MMO drought we had and not one captured my interest due to controls, graphics, gameplay, lack of community or all of the above.
Some of those I might have played if they played like today's games, control wise. Like AC, or AO, but sadly they don't.
Civ5.
I'd rather play no MMO than a crappy MMO, and I've already played the hell out of everything I like. It's single player stuff for me, between now and when ____________ releases (not Cataclysm). Looks like Steam will be milking a few more dollars from me...
Starcraft 2, Borderlands, Fallout: New Vegas, Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age: Origins and Torchlight. Plenty of non mmos to keep you busy until we get a real mmo to play.
So those games would last a month or so... then what?
One of the main reasons I play MMOs is because single player games are horrible for their ROI.

While I'm still active in EVE, I've recently taken up with Fallen Earth and am really enjoying the game even though its more of a level based theme park than a sandbox.
I guess I like the way you can build up your characters in a variety of ways, through gear, through "flipping the faction wheel" for AP's and abilities, and just straight levels.
I mean, its sort of mindless fun, but never the less I think between it and EVE I'm good until GW2 comes out.

I went back to WAR and am having a great time.
They can all last you until the end of the year unless you play 24/7 days a week!. Plus there is plenty of replayability with all those games.
Hmmm, AoC, GW, LotrO, DDO, switching between those can be a good entertaining time filler.
Actually, I read somewhere that your Hall of Monuments in GW will have additional benefits in GW2? Have to look it up again, but that's an added incentive to play some more GW again, next to the 'War on Kryta' event missions that seem to be the first step to bridge the events leading up to GW2.
Singleplayer games, there's too many to mention: Torchlight, Borderlands, CIV5, SC2 mods, Red Dead Redemption, the Witcher, you name it. All good stuff.
edit: I found it, here
The Hall of Monuments is a location in the Far Shiverpeaks, part of the Eye of the North. It serves as a means to transfer player achievements from the original series to Guild Wars 2.[1] In the original series, players were able to display achievements, miniatures, prestige armours and prestige weapons in their Hall of Monuments. By "declaring an ancestor" using an in-game item[2] in Guild Wars 2, the player can link their two game accounts, granting them points based on their Guild Wars achievements.[3][verification requested] Points can be traded for rewards, and these can be claimed by any character on the account,[1] and as many times as wanted but cannot be traded between players.
The rewards are known to include titles, weapons, attire and miniatures.[4] These rewards are unique - there is no other way to get them. For this reason, their appeal will be mainly cosmetic; they will not give the player any huge advantages over other players.[5] It does not take a full hall to receive rewards.
New players to Guild Wars 2 will not be able to return to the original series and earn achievements for their Hall of Monuments.[6] The privilege is exclusively restricted to current players.

SC2 is not even a week of play. Nor is Borderlands. Origins is a little longer. But add in weekends, and it all goes to Hell.
As for replayability - doing the same albeit slightly different - has never done it for me.
Yes, some people really enjoy single player games. I have begun to despise them over the years as their ROI continues to dwindle.
Origins though, even if it does not last months - does last longer than most on the list and is generally a game folks like.
