I am playing the 14 day trial .I am a DAOC vet who has been away from the game for years but giving it a go.So far I have tried an archer...and a Heretic.I would appreciate any other thoughts on classes I should revisit ?
How are animists doing these days ? They were nerffed into oblivion in the past. Are they worth playing now ?

I've never played hibs, but I've only ever found animists to be a huge nuisance. I currently play a Warlock and love the damage. You will be quite squishy and the floaty chambers above your head say "KILL ME FIRST" in RvR, but it is enjoyable. It can be a very limiting class since most of your spells have a set cast time and aren't affected by dexterity.
If you prefer a fast casting class, then for ranged DD I would suggest a Runemaster on Mid or Wizard on Alb. With these you won't be managing any pets, but once again you are squishy and can't solo very well. For soloing with a ranged class I would suggest a pet oriented class such as Spiritmaster, Cabalist, or Bonedancer. These all can be quite efficient. These are all my person opinions though, and once again I know nothing on the Hib side of the spectrum.
Hope this helps
Agree that animist can be pain to play against Spiritmaster is always nice, trade damage for more utility but its good, pet for interrupt, backup mezz etc
What about archers ..of one realm or another ?
Im no expert on archers, i think grouping is the most fun! But in my book they are pretty much the same. Scout has shield stun, hunter have pet and decent melee and rangers are the best melees? Could be wrong, but they are more or less the same; you will be hiding and shooting arrows... think the difference between them can easy be countered by your player skills and or luck in the situations. IMO choose the archer from the realm you love the most
Aye, this is correct. The archers from each of the realms work on basically the same mechanics except that rangers are best at melee, hunters have pets and moderate melee, and scout is the worst at melee but has a shield and shield stun. The only other difference is bow range. Scouts have the longest with rangers following close by, and hunters have the shortest. But hunters make up for it with their mean pet and nasty spear damage.
I have toons in all three realm, however, the scout is my favorite for what you are talking about. I have killed Rangers as much as 4L5 RR higher than I was. And, Hunters can be nasty to classes that are solo and do not know how to handle them. If a scout is played properly he has no problems from Hunters.
I still RvR once in a while, when I am able to be free, and have not seen any Hunters in some time.
Although the scout is my favorite it is not an easy class to become expert with, except in Molvik where no one needs to be an expert and still have fun. I easily kill low level purple mobs with no cleric buffs, and although I run with a BG when I can, I am often solo. However, I still supply the BG with important information from time to time.
Scouts need good gear, not perfect, just good. They have their own buffs although not all buffs, such as no base dex. That comes with champion levels [training in buff/heals] or pots until you get champion levels.
Champion buffs are not very good, however, my dex is currently 404 with self buffs [red scout buffs] and grey champion buffs, using a player crafted Dragonsworn Long Bow, and 403 dex with Galvorne's Perfected Bow. So, they are not the best buffs but get the job done. I can't even remember how much dex I have with full red buffs from a good cleric with my current spec. If there are any good clerics out there, my buffs yield +126 dex, but, I have gear that yields maximum bonus to stat enhancement spell effectiveness, like a Friar or Cleric.
You must be patient with any class because you do not have the resources to put the best gear on them right away and grouping is a different animal by far compared to solo, however, some are more difficult to master than others. I had a blast in Molvik with any character I made, except running solo as a squishy.
