Guild Wars 2: Yes, Tailoring Is In!

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

After last week's blog post about items and loot in Guild Wars 2, Arena.Net developers John Hargrove and Eric Flannum have posted some of the most-asked questions from the community. The wide variety of topics include whether or not tailoring is a crafting discipline all the way to transmutation stones.

Q:  Will all of the most desirable armors in the game have crappy stats, thus “requiring” the expenditure of real money to acquire transmutation stones in order for our characters to wear the armors we want?

Eric: Absolutely not. We’re not changing the way we make armor at all because of this system. Guild Wars 2 starts players off with basic but very attractive armor (as seen in our demo) and from there the armor only gets cooler. In fact, we have a ton of very cool armor at the high end of the game, which means that many players will never use a transmutation stone since they’ll want to keep the appearance of the new gear that they find.

I can't get over how great this game is looking!

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.

I don't hate much, but I hate Apple© with a passion. If Steve Jobs was alive, I would punch him in the face.

I hope the character models are going to look good as well. There's been nothing to suggest any improvements so far. Maybe it is to come. I hope so. A troll in a pretty dress is still a butt-ugly troll after all!

This game is way beyond my expectations.  I mean, I knew that it would be good but they are really cranking it out.  Its almost like they hired a bunch of people who have never played video games before and had theme tell the dev team exactly what should be in the game.

    It's more like:

It's almost like they hired a team who doesn't want to release an un-finished product so their reputation doesn't tank, and people actually enjoy their game.

I would think it would be better to say that it's more like they are taking a bunch of people that have played many different games and realize what works and doesn't work and then have them tell the dev team exactly what should be in the game.

Halo-bump, that is a matter of personal prefrence since I have zero problems with the current models.

Interesting, but not blow your bollocks off news as some seem to be making it out to be.

So multiple ways of obtaining gear, that is just pretty awesome. A system that caters to everyone, can you say awesomesauce ? I know you can!

Resource nodes...Tailoring... if this is not some tricky marketing speech, then a robust crafting system seems to be on the way.

    YESSS!

Yeah people on this forum seem to be extremely over the top hyped for GW2, being excited for a game is all swell and dandy (im excited for ToR) but as jimmy said this isnt "blow your bollocks off news"

Seems like they want a little more money out of the shop then before.

I am definately "extremely over the top hyped" for GW2, and you and jimmy are right that this isn't "blow your bollocks off news" but hot damn, A-net has yet to release any information that I am disappointed in hearing.

TOR having the "rail-type space flight" =  disappointment (not terrible, but I am disappointed) as well as a few other things I'm not excited about.

FF XIV - lots of disappoints

Rift, Tera, Vindicus etc - disappoints when compared to GW2

So yeah, it might seem that people like me are "overhyped" about GW2, and maybe it's just because of excellent marketing on behalf of A-net, but I am completely unable to be excited about any other games until I get to try out A-net's new MMO design.

I hate how every new piece of information ANet releases is enough to sap my will to play any current MMORPG.

I'm pretty much sold on playing GW2 like a lot of folks here and all the updates are great, not everyone ground breaking true but all good and interesting information. I have to say though I think the title and question answered for this article are a bit misleading. Tailoring is in, and that great but is that really the question people wanted answered? What I mean is yes Tailoring craft has been confirmed in the game but if this is a question gathered from forums and sent in by people I don't think they mean is there crafting type called tailoring in the game as much as they want to know if they can design the look of items they craft to some extent and if feels like the real question was sort of glossed over. After all if we know there is crafting in a game, would you really bother to specifically ask if there was a tailoring craft for cloth items also? It'd be rather implied.

Agreed it all sounds awesome. You should all check out the actual blog if you have it where it shows some pretty sweet armor other than the one featured here. Loving it!

Another drop in a bucket that is brimmming with anticipation. No not ground breaking news, but it's all still leading in the direction that GW2 will be epic!

Finally, somebody is doing something to fight the stagnation of MMo art styles.  I'm tired of every developer trying to clone WOW (yeah, I'm looking at you Bioware).

Even though the first Guild Wars didn't have amazing graphics the art style was always impressive.  From what I have seen so far, this game looks like it will be even more impressive (at least artistically).
