Hello,
This may sound like a deja vu but I was wondering if the game is worth comming back.. its probably the same game then it was before I quit ( wotlk pre big patch ). I tried a lot of stuff and I own a copy of FF xiv but I not installed it yet because im waiting my new laptop. FF xiv is not getting much of love so I might just try to sell it back or try it once it is fixed.
Im from quebec and I used to play on EU serveur because some of my IRL friend played it on french server cause they dont speak english much but as you know when its about 18h00 here its 00:00 out there, so server are quiet if you play during the evening. I ended selling my account because I was a bit bored and there is not much raiding past 19-20h east.
But when I started playing this game I used to have an old PRE bc account that I forgot the username/password. I finally recovered it and there is a level 59 pally on it... completly forgot I had that character. I was thinking of maybe comming back... 60 to 80 is not a so long ride and with the upcomming expansion I might be able to stuff myself in the new zones / heroics and not bother in trying to get in some elite guild to run thru citadel raids ... maybe?..
But buying all those exps will cost me tons again I suppose, not checked the price yet... I just feel there is no other option for several months... no upccoming great mmorpg... or maybe I should just give ffxiv a try....

dont do it! do not do it man!!!!
WoW will be arround forever....but don't go back! don't go back to the evil side! it will suck your life out of your eyes and it will leave you limp fingered but wanting more, and more, and mooorrreeee.
dont do it Luke! resist the WoW side!
I wasnt expecting that one :P
WoW will be around long enough to make your question moot. FFXIV is a completely different game from WOW and you need a serious machine to play it in a way that isn't miserable. I'd honestly say give it three months and see what people are saying unless you enjoy beta quality software because at this point it still is (although they've improved significantly from the beta.)
Shadus
WoW will be around for a long time to come.
Or hopefully until at least 2030, as that is when my account expires.
Now is it worth going back to? Thats totally up to you.
I hardly play the game as it is because to me it's just boring now. I might try it again after Cataclysm (though the beta hasn't really wowed me all that much).
If you are willing to give it another go, then it might be worth spending the $15 plus what, $30 per expansion (Note: just get the expansions you need at this moment - like for now just pick up BC and see if you want to bother getting to 70 before getting Wrath)
There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
LOL! You should have... ^^ WoW is going to be around for a years and years. The next expansion is due out Dec 7th. It will raise the level cap to 85 and they are redesigning a lot of the original areas. Many, many changes are coming.
Given that I have five 80's, of course I plan to go back. ^^ Here is more information.

Why bother, look up private servers instead or just youtube "making your own Wow server" why pay for crap when it's free everywhere!! Unless your the type of person to pay for fertilizer when you live on a cow farm LOL
I went back after being gone for right at a year. Been playing about a month now and am having fun so to me anyway, yes it was worth it. I had forgotten how smooth and polished the game is.
WOW isnt great because it has 12 million players. WOW has 12 million players because its great.
Perhaps because one never knows how long those private servers will be around? Or how stable they are... Or not being part of the In Crowd, not having access to hacked advantages?... Way too many down sides. Not to mention, if one can't or will not spend less than $15 a month for a game, one has larger issues than just WoW. ^^
private servers are crap. If you have trouble affording a few dollars for a online game with the best content update/support so far (at least in EU it is), you should probably look for a better job then spending time on mmos.
WoW will be around for ages. Maybe content supply will slow down in 2014 when they release their new mmorpg, but surely it will take much more time til they probably shut down the wow servers.
I just cant stand all the "wow killer" nonsense that is up every time some hype game is going to be released. There will be no wow killer, thats it. I know plenty of gamers that are so used and familiar to this game, even when they stop playing...they always come back.
You're either a bad troll or just the level of really dumb in this post is high.
Free servers suck. Simple as that. There's no risk, no real reward. They are full of 12 year old idiots (generally), largely modded and changed from the actual WoW, laggy as all sin, and no real point IMO. I only ever used one to see what the big deal is with flying around the Ashes and Mimiron's head. That took me all of 5 minutes to register, play with the mounts, and never look back.
Oh, and WoW won't die until it's successor comes out. It's pretty much an invincible steamroller right now, especially with the explosive momentum (bad pun) Cataclysm will bring.
I wouldn't bother Cataclysm is the final step in the dumbing down of the game, nothing will really be the same, all the old world easter eggs will be gone, the old pvp zones will be gone, all that will be left is Instanced outdoor zones. Xroads pvp attacks will be gone, no more STV pvp stalking. The new areas and zones will be like WOTLK but worse everything built around getting some stupid token... ultimately to force you into at least a 5 man. They dumbed down the stats and Taurens can be paladins, Gnome priests, Alliance wolf men...... the game is for kids and has just gotten STUPID.
Well, I resubbed today after several months break and I'm enjoying my newly started warlock (11 now). Looking forward to Cataclysm, no other MMO impresses me as of now.
Here's waiting and hoping that some other MMO will save the day in 2011
Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
How do you know its all gone have you been in Beta?
Dem hibbies! Dey be wrong!
Wow isn't going anywhere in the near future. If it's not around in, say, 5 years, how seriously would that impact paying 15 bucks for a month, now?
Well might get back at it then, wanted to give a shot at GW 1 but same stuff about xpacks, there is not much options out there about mmos, all new sux and I dont like Aion much...
Eh? Cataclysm's content is harder than anything WotLK has thrown at it's players. If anything, it's taking the game one step closer to the "vanilla" days.
You don't know anything.
It will be around for a loooooooooong time. Like, a short time ago a blue (Blizzard Employee) answered on the german forums the question "will we get a new class?" with: "possibly in the next expansion, it's not definite though". So, if you rule out the possibility he was joking, that means they plan at least one additional expansion. If they keep up their pace, it will be released in two years or so?
Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)
Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)
I'll be honest....I recently went back because I was given a couple of days comp time. Haven't played it in at least 3 years. Well, I'm sad to say that it was mindnumingly boring. It was just a bunch of pixels swinging at other pixels and jumping around and looney tooney. I went and resubbed to EQ2 instead and I can't stop playing it for 2 months. They did some great things to that game. I really did try to give WoW another chance...but it just didn't feel right at all.

To each their own. I've tried EQ2 twice now. Once at launch, and again this year. I don't really like the graphics design, nor the fact that much of the areas up to 30 plus are ghost towns. Thats to be expected in a game this old, but Its just not my type of game. WoW on the other hand I have five 80's in. I wander off for a few months but have always ended up going back.
Might be worth going back to for you. My wife and I recently went back after 7 months away. It is still polished and still has the raid or die mentality but that is a flaw with the community. Just find a good guild and pass the time until something else you are interested in comes out. I also enjoyed Vanguard and Fallen Earth but they were just too laggy. Really a shame though.
Well Blizzard just announced that they got around 12 million paying customers. Trialaccounts etc excluded...I wonder how anyone thinks about the end of WOW imagining this numbers. In decembre it will surely go up...
One of the most important factors for me with WoW, was finding the right guild or having other like minded friends to play with. I tried the game last year with a couple of friends and ended up joining their guild. The standard raid content was extremely boring and the guild just didnt take raiding seriously (3 out of 4 raids per week were canceled due to noshows) so a few of us ended up leaving the game for a bit.
Now, almost a year later, my friends and I ran out of games that we wanted to try so we crawled back to WoW expecting to join and become bored again quickly. We started our own guild this time. Instead of just mass inviting, like most WoW guilds do, we have been extremely selective and only try to recruit players who will make a good fit with our members.
As I said before, we did not expect any of us to stick around for long. The majority of the content is still pretty easymode, world PvP is all but dead, but I must admit, I am having a great time. There are still plenty of things that I dislike about WoW, but surrounding myself with players I like has made all the difference in the world to me.
Still hard to believe it has 12 million active subscribers.
China just got the wrath expansion, when Cata hits Blizzard may pass the 13 million mark.
As I have said to my buddies who also want to return.... wait for cata if you plan to reroll for the new 1-60 or if you got a max characrter come back for 4.0.1 (should drop in the next week or so) to play with the new talent tree's and stuff.
