I enjoy playing support.  Then tank. Then dps.

I don't know how we can say what we're going to play because not all classes have been shown with advanced classes.

  • gilgamesh9gilgamesh9 Member Posts: 133

They should just drop the pretense of it being a "smuggler" and just go with rogue/outlaw.  There's not space flight so there's not much smuggling going on.

i believe that the only reason why the hype is dropping is because WoW players want people to believe that this game will suck so that WoW does not die.

I had decided on a single lightsabre wielding force heavy jedi as soon as I heard of this game, so looks like I'll be a Jedi Wizard.

    Slacker extraordinaire!

Seems to me that the Sawbones advanced class will be much like the Chanter from Aion. It will have its heals, but they will not be entirely reliable for a group. They probably will prove to be more of a secondary healer + buff class with additional goodies. More than likely not a MUST for a group but definitely a part of an awesome group.

BOUNTY HUNTERS FOREVER. Smuggler's are just a spec of flesh in my way.

    Re: Smugglers being healers

Think of it this way - a Troopers has access to speciality support (snipers, medics, leaders, etc.), so they don't need to be jack-of-all trades. Same goes (to some degree) Jedis.

Smugglers on the other hand, are usually on their own, lone-wolf types, so it would make sense that they would know how to patch themselves up if need be. Same goes for Bounty Hunters.

    Current MMO: None
Previous MMOs: WoW, Guild Wars, SWG, EQ2, LotrO, Vanguard, Matrix Online, AoC, Ultima Online, Fallen Earth, D&D Online, Champions Online, Aion, Rift.

There is space comabt and smuggler wil most likely in their story line arcs...*gasp* smuggle stuff. bioware is not retarded.

Dang, I was hoping that with Bioware at the helm this game would try to break free of MMO stereotypes at least a little bit.

Mike breaks down the information revealed in that revelation and offers thoughts about what it all means. Check it out!

In designing the game’s Advanced Classes, Bioware made sure to address some of the more popular traditional MMO playstyles, such as the highly sought after (and often elusive!) healer, while also adding some of their own spice to the mix by creating variants on these archetypes. For example, a “Vanguard” Trooper can tank, even though he is a ranged class, rather atypical for most traditional MMOs. Of course, the Trooper isn’t the only tank option on the Republic side, as the more traditional melee tank can be found in the Jedi Knight’s Guardian Advanced Class.

Great review, the only thing that confused me was the comparisons to Team Fortress 2, which I never played nor have seen. Needless to say I plan on going Sith Marauder. I do hate the look of the armor though, I wanted robes. Big disappointment that we probably can't even use robes. In KotOR 1, Malak wore armor but he was a rare case. It was never commonplace to wear armor, Bioware says it's because of the war but thats just an excuse to put in those nasty Clone Wars graphics.

Edit: However, I have yet to be disappointed from any Bioware game, and I will play TOR and obsess over it for months maybe years.

I just think that playing an MMO where the story is actually engaging like any Bioware RPG is, and then blowing up some other players as part of the same game sounds so freaking awesome.  Switching classes will give you a whole new story, so for those of us who are altoholics, we had better clear our calendars when the game comes out.

    Currently playing:
    Rift
    Played:
SWToR, Aion,EQ, Dark Age of Camelot
    World of Warcraft, AoC

No kidding. I'm doing Collector's Edition pre-order as soon as possible. I've never done Collector's Edition for a game, I have like 3 friends who hate MMOs but they said they will play TOR. I just hope theres at least some support for Role-playing cuz I'm nerdy like that.

Sith Marauder because they are gonna get the most love from the devs.

All those memories will be lost in time, like tears in the rain.

My thoughts!? Get the fucking game out. Stop overhyping it. Stop advertising for a game thats currently vaporware. Until i see hard proof its actually there, its equally vaporware as Stargate Worlds and Dukenukem Forever.... Overhyping of games = Death of the game. Just look at Auto assault, Fury, Richard Garriots latest mmo and few others. All over hyped and died pretty fast thereafter as result.

    My 10 cents.

    Peace

This game sounds more and more like a boring MMO. Tank? Healer? Come on. Be orginal.

  • catlanacatlana Member Posts: 1,677

I am going Jedi Shadow for my first toon. As long as Bioware keeps the immersion quality of their games high, I will continue to be interested in them.

TOR is not another mmo game, its STAR WARS mmo, complete different than garriot's and others you mention, STAR WARS saga has huge history and since is LA behind it, is will be live.

Successful or not, when its released we will see after some months, as all live mmo's have trials

fan of SWG, XCOM, Defiance, Global Agenda, Need For Speed, all Star Wars single player games. And waiting the darn STAR CITIZEN

     QFT and +10000

Are we the only two who arent thrilled with the fact that SW:tOR is falling into the same old overdone archetypes?  To be honest, I cant get excited about playing *any* of the "trinity" BS any more.  Im done with DPS/Heal/Tank...

People talk a lot of BS about WoW and how lousy it is, but yet they seem to be so enthusiastically ready to support games that are essentially the same thing but *potentially* more complex with potentially richer story execution and  a different setting.

With an IP as enormous and significant as SW and a developer as mighty as BioWare I was really hoping for something that goes beyond people hitting "SW:ToR Stratics" within the first two weeks to find out the most optimal way to chain heal/tank and DPS down the first raid boss... But oh yeah, check out the uber cinematics.  Seems this was an opportunity for something genuinely original to happen rather than "skill tree" and "gear set" optimization spreadsheets just now with some cool storytelling.

You know you don't have to play, right? Go play EVE. No holy trinity there -- and it's quite good.

I for one, not being a big fan of Star Wars, have been continually impressed with what BioWare is doing -- I think this may be one of the best MMOs at release. By that I mean I think that it will be one of the rare gems that actually is not a public beta at release time.

If i fall into the catagory of not liking WoW it's merely it's constant exposure, warrented or not. i simply am not able to get away from it (I know i'm in the gaming industry and i hang around games, therefore it's probably somewhat my fault) it's the single most talked about MMO in existance and quite frankly it's getting a little annoying but thats only my reasons and some of those are merely from association from my craft.  It's not the games fault. It's not really the players. But simply not being able to get away from it, does tend to make me shy away from the game. Though i "try" and keep my thoughts and opinions neutral when it comes to the game itself and the company

The reasons i like this game have nothing to do with the holy trinity, in fact i've never had a problem with it. The reason i like this game is:

    Interactive story.

Fully Voiced actors (including your character)

    The world (Star wars)

    Seemless zoning

The idea of morality (whether it's an accurate assessment or not)

    Firing a blaster/using a lightsaber.

Finally i loved Knight of the old republic.

Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.
