Guild Wars 2: Rewards for Glories Past

Another Arena.Net Guild Wars 2 developer blog has been posted to discuss the Hall of Monuments from Guild Wars I and the benefits those past glories will bring to players in GW2. Devs have even created a "Hall of Monuments Rewards Calculator" to let players see exactly what they will gain in Guild Wars 2 as a result of their achievements in the original game.
The rewards that your Guild Wars 2 characters earn are exclusive to the Hall of Monuments and can't be picked up or earned anywhere else. Depending on your Guild Wars characters' history, you can unlock:
Special Hall of Monuments titles
Animal companions for your ranger, like the Black Widow Spider and Rainbow Jellyfish
Miniatures such as the Red Servitor Golem or Orange Tabby Cat, that any profession can use
A wide selection of weapons, like the Living Shortbow and the Fellblade
Armor pieces for your light, medium, and heavy armor setsYour new Guild Wars 2 characters will be able to use these low-level items and armor right away, and we'll provide you with the means to use these special items as you advance to higher levels.

I'm a very happy geek, there are still titles I need to unlock but the calculator tells me I've already done enough to earn all of those rewards, thank you Anet! Looking forward to seeing that spooky little baby bird thing in GW2.
Not surprisingly, today they slashed $10 off from the Expansion. You need this particular expansion to have access to the Hall of Monument.

It is not too late, you can buy the complete box really cheap if you have some time... I doubt the game releases before this spring so you should be able to get at least the honor armor if you aim for it. It is still worth the time and money even if it look somewhat dated today.
Myself I didn't play the expansion so much, guess I have to give it another shot...
Bloody marketting tactics! Ended up buying eye of the north expansion because of this (and because I was bored and it only costed €10).
Logged in on all my characters and they all had 3 birthday gifts, heh...
naa even if gw 1 is 1$ i wont play because no1 of my friend play lol, we are in another game right now. i barly play so i wont have time for another game until we all move to GW2 .

Funnily enough I logged back in to GW last night for the first time in ages, two intentions: 1) Play through the new (ish) War in Kryta content that starts to bridge the lore between GW and GW2 (great fun it is too) and 2) To carry on adding weapons to my HoM. The WiK content has some nice weapons that can be added so aiming to get at least two of those in.
My main (necro - Evil Geek) wears a mixture of armour including some Obsidian pieces, now I have to buckle down to get the full set, I needz ectos! Just added loads of mini pets too including my first 5th birthday mini. Glad to see they'll be making a return in GW2, it's only fluff but nice fluff

yeah from someone who was pretty much done with GW only having 15/50 damn i need some work...but i also have stuff that i need to simply add to the hall
OMG, I love the calculator. I have unlocked only a fraction of the rewards. That's what you get for being a PvP freak who doesn't grind for titles -_-

We're told about viable rewards for the Hall of Monuments, finally! ArenaNet has done an outstanding job here and will keep interest in the three Guild Wars campaigns and G:WEN going along with Guild Wars 2. Not only is this an incredible demonstration of dedication to the fanbase but a very smart business decision. I would have been loathe to say it before, but it seems that ArenaNet will have created a game to rival World of Warcraft -not by trying to rival WoW but by creating a damn good game, a game for gamers by gamers and not being greedy about doing it. Congraulations, ArenaNet, you've created a frachise that deserves all of the money it gets.

(2) It's not about community, is it? You just have nothing better to do.

Well, even after GW2 releases, you can earn rewards for it through GW 1, that way you can do it at your own pace.Really? I don't believe it. I figured once GW2 came out we wouldn't be able to earn awards through GW1 for it. Is there confirmation that we can still earn rewards through GW1 after GW2 release?

Yes its allready comfirmed you can earn those rewards also after the gw2 release.
"Even after Guild Wars 2 launches, players will still be able to go into Guild Wars and earn achievements in the Hall of Monuments that can translate into rewards for your GW2 characters." - A quote from the rock paper shotgun interview!
