I think RoM is a wonderful game! Leveling up doesnt take long even without quests for the first 20 levels. With instances some grouping or higher level player is needed. Im playing under the Artemis PvE server and its uber awesomtastic everyone is nice besides 1 or 2 bad apples and low level kiddies. I never played PvP so i have no idea how that plays. Generally crafting doesnt make much money and wastes time collecting mats but at night when no one is one it may go quicker but still kinda slow near the end. Theres many instances and epic world bosses to do so you wont get bored doing a single instance 30 times to level like other games. Plus they have a duel class system that will boost your main class with secondary skills like rogue/priest (rogue with healing) or Warrior/Mage (dps with magic dps) ect...
Sorry for writing alot but i just recently rejoined this game after a year leave. Though right now it is a little buggy with guilds and lvl 55+ events but even with that i prefer this game over others that are currently out. If you start out on the Artemis (PvE) server and need help feel free to send me in game mail/message or friend request. In game name: Ellenorea , 55/52 Priest/Mage
Is gameplay (especially post-level mid-40s) still overly too dependent on cash shop pimped gears?
'cause that was what made me decide to leave RoM last year, since it isn't possible to buy diamonds in my country other than AH's rising prices for them.
wow this game doesn't look half bad. I noticed there is a housing system which you can customize the interior with, something I haven't seen in a long time. DLing as I type
Just came back to this game after about nine or 10 months and I'm loving it at the moment. Player population really isn't that different from when I left, it's very high, even in remote areas and you never have to wait for a group quest, which is great.
I'm lucky enough to be able to play it on max settings and it looks good, I think. The graphics are not epic, but I like decent graphics and I'm more than happy with these. Performance has always been good for me too, although there are bugs and lag and so on, but there is a lot of server maintenance going on at the minute which presumably will address these lingering niggles.
The company seems to put a lot of time and effort into the thing and there's a ton of content. Last night, a GM introduced herself on the world channel and invited questions from players.
Sometimes people can't see beyond the fact that this is a cash shop game, so they never get to appreciate anything else about it.
Yes, you can buy stuff for money and you can pimp your character to high heaven if you want, and yes, it wil be better, maybe a lot better, than those who don't spend. That's just the way the game works. I have a level 30/30 character and I'm guessing that most of those around me haven't spent a whole lot in the item shop, except perhaps to buy a mount. It is possible to play this game at this stage without visiting the cash shop. As for higher levels, people say you have to pay to be competitive, and I think that's probably right. Most high level characters are well kitted out in high stat equipment.
If you can get around the cash shop thing, then this is a sound game I think and well worth a go. If you don't mind a cash shop, then so much the better. You pay £9 a month to Blizzard for WoW, don't forget, for which you get access to an excellent game and not much else beyond maintenance and some generic, same-every-year seasonal stuff. Next expansion that comes out, you'll be paying for that too. Runewaker have added two expansions (I think) to RoM since it started.
I'm always amazed by the number of masterminds on here who expect companies to provide them with games for free...
Good post, I'm about to hit lvl 10 but I have enjoyed it although I have read that the lvling above 40 + can be outrageous. It's nice to know that you don't need to spend money to enjoy the game. However I don't have anything against spending a bit since I usually do spend 15 a month for other MMO's.

Anyone playing the game who says "im lvl so and so and I just dont see the need for a cash shop in rom" is still a lower lvl.
RoM is a fun game and the cash shop doesnt become a factor till around 50+ I dont know the state of the game now as I left awhile ago. but cash shop currency was cheap and available in the auction house for the grinders to buy. so it wasnt truely "required" to use your real cash to shop in rom, but in some form either from players, venders, the auction house or the cash shop itsself you will need what they sell.
I had no argument using the cash shop I spent 100's of real dollars and 1000's of dollars worth of diamonds from grinding gold to sell.
what will get you in the endgame ** if you want to move forward and be able to hold your own ** is the gear/cashshop grind. what drove me away is the constant repatching that will take away something you worked very hard to obtain. grind out this gear and these stats just so an update can come and make them useless causing you to do it again. done with that armor? well this patch is adding these new stats haha..................................................a few of my friends still playing tell me some of the quests are still broken or not triggering correctly, strange bugs once in a while and asst fodder that drove me insane while i was playing
start grinding these instances to get the gear and stats to handle the next ones, rinse and repeat. I still like rom, had 3 maxed toons. somewhere with enough time even a gear junky (like myself) starts to see everything about this game in early lvls is designed to funnel you into the upper lvl cash shop gear gring asap and nothing more.
now with all the BS over diamonds and scamming (how come rom cant seem to get any conrol over this?) it took the ability to truely play for free away.
anyways (was) a nice game if your an endgame raiding type or a gear junky this is the game to play lol
Graphics might not be the best, but the rest seems really good. It's as if they have taken all the best bits from different games and put it into a single one. It's got everything I normally would like to see in a game (or wish a game had): housing, customization of clothing, fantasy settings, skills, crafting, auction house, PVP (?) etc. There also seems plenty of stuff to do, lots of instances and areas to explore.
I just recently tried to play FFXIV, was extremely disappointed and now testing RoM after it. RoM just shows how really bad FFXIV really is and how good a F2P game can be. It's stuffed with things compared to a lot of games that's come out in the past year or two.
The only down side for me is the graphics, nothing else I can fault at the moment. But there seems to be so many other things in the game that makes up for it. I would say it's similar to D&D Online.
Oh, the only other thing I found strangely difficult playing on the European Servers is how difficult it seem to be to buy Diamonds to use in the Cash Shop. No online payment option!??
Play: - Played: FFXIV, WAR, Allods, Aion, AoC, DDO, EQ2, GW, Lotro, Tabula Rasa, Vanguard, WoW
Not your fault in particular but alot of companies are taking off online payments from Europe because of all kinds of scamming, card fraud, and card theft is coming from Europe right now. I couldn't even subscribe to Runescape a little while back because they are from England, my bank denied the payment to go through. Oh well, not your fault, just hope things clear up soon!
I never had any problems in any game, Im from Holland.
Its probably just in eastern europe....
Thanks but I'm not in Eastern Europe and before some other silly comment, my credit rating is fine.... It's simply not possible to buy using credit cards in the UK. Not even able to use Paypal.
Play: - Played: FFXIV, WAR, Allods, Aion, AoC, DDO, EQ2, GW, Lotro, Tabula Rasa, Vanguard, WoW
Yup froggy confirmed no more paypal, cruising the forums at rom it seems there are alot of people who cant use a CC right now (possibly trying to force you to use the gamecards so they get a better cut) and diamonds are not tradeable anymore, as of right now servers are down and mods are gone for the weekend.
this game was fun but looking at the mess on the forums as of today, the bugs, crashes, gold bots and exploits are getting worse and worse, all they keep doing is dumping more and more content on top of the stuff already broken and it seems to be dragging the quality of the game from meh to even worse.
Try this game if you want but wait till you see the mess its becoming. all kinds of exploits and broken quests as well as constant server crashes (just dont try to play this weekend cause servers have crashed*again* and in typical rom fashion gms arent around . if they ever fixed this game i would be back in seconds. but I see a bunch of killer looking titles coming soon so I guess i will see if they want my money instead lol.

?
It has loads of quests pre level 20. They start right at level 1.

I hope the cash shop isn't unfair.
