Still Curious

Despite the claims for tdhis MMO to be cumbersome due to the UI and the menus, I can get around that.  I don't need instant gratification, I can work arounfd that.  I am reading a lot about the aspects people have problems with repairs and the crafting system.  I like the fact that a toon should play multiple roles inorder to accmplish simple feats.  I've also read about the "quests" and the unique design of play.

I do not care for games like WoW anymore, not did I care for Aion.  Frankly I just found them tedious.  I have been looking for a game to play that is more unique in desing that will allow me a break from the traditional gaming aspects in the past.  Again, I can get past the UI and the other complaints in the game.  I'm not answering my own question nor do I want someone to tell me to make up my own mind.  I guess I'm curious if this is right for me?  I really don't know how to pose my question in a matter which will portray what I am into.  I just want a complex, intricate game with a variety of aspects, with a more mature audience.  Something that I will enjoy for a while.  I like to explore and not just kill and slam quests.  I would like to be unique and work for what I get.  Hmmmm.

This could be the game for you.  It would be best if you can get a buddy key from someone so that you can try it out.

I thought that I could deal with a clunky interface and in the end the interface pushed me over the edge when deciding whether I was enjoying the game enough to keep playing it.  I made it around to about 10th level all together and got tired of waiting to start enjoying it.

FFXIV isn't really complex, its just a game where you need to "do everything to do anything".  If you can't repair your own weapons and armor by leveling up a few crafts, then combat is pretty tiresome in the higher levels.

If you like crafting and like playing tons of different jobs and classes then this game might be what you're looking for.  If you're into combat and content, dungeons, raiding and grouping, etc. then you'll be disappointed.  Most combat is based on duoing with a friend to grind the same mobs rinse and repeat.  There's no combat content outside of guildleves every 36 hours and a couple behests.  It's near impossible to find people to party with, or people that even want to party, unless you have a huge linkshell full of like-minded people.

I do enjoy raiding, instances and so forth, however if there is other content to keep me entertained then I do not mind.  I am worried about repetition.  Is that a problem?

Too bad so sad for me.  I do not have a buddy with a buddy key.  I would love one to try it out.

Hey if repairing your armor and weapons every 2 hrs is your thing go ahead; No transportation in game yet so be prepeared to run for 20 to 30 minutes just to get back to city. Anema regenrates very slowly and you would better save it for teleport to other cities.

Nothing more fun then halting your entire group because tank and healers need to repair weapons every 2 hrs and read their grumbling and cussing SE in party chat. But that is only first part, once you get to city repairing is just another terrible time sink activity.

Or get forced to craft to repair your own stuff.

I think he game in itself is not that very bad. The only problem I think is the lag with about everything you do.

For example: Opening your inventory. In a normal online game, I would guess the game doesn't need to constantly ask the gameserver for opening a menu. That's what it feels like in FF XIV. Everything you do, from opening a menu to selecting an item or pushing just a simple button seems to require a connection to the gameserver, asking wether pushing the button or opening the menu s a valid action. If that problem would be resolved, I guess the game would be very much more be enjoyable. Now it feels more like a waiting game.

I still play it though, just on the more quiet moments, so there isn't much traffic on the server.

Well, if you want to put it that way I guess.  I dont mind transportation.  I l think that will come in the future and right now it seems we have to work for what we get.  Its all good.

Repairing seems to be a priority that I will have to learn with my own toon in time perhaps? I'm not sure if its done that way, but if I can learn it as a skill then I will.  I'm not sure...

I absolutely love FFXI and played it for 3 years, took a break from MMO's and decided that'll come back once FFXIV releases. Despite its graphics this game is far from meeting my expectations. I could go on and on why I don't like this game, but majority of the people have already covered my complaints in the forums.

If i hadn't played this game, i'd probably be just as curious. Only way to answer your own question is to play the game and see for yourself.
