This is really outstanding. Thanks Razzmatazz for the confirmation, I was multi-tasking and didn't read all of the information at once. I'm really thrilled that I don't *have* to bust ass for the achievments/gear between now and when GW2 comes out to get them.
I have to be more of a casual player, so I was worried I would miss out, call me a fanboy, but the gear looks good even if its entry level, and I think this rocks!
Very clever marketing as people above have said. I only ever played the original GW when it came out and then kind of dropped out of it when my friends stopped playing before the first expansion.
I'll still be getting GW2 even though I won't have these pretty items but good on you ANet.
For the Hall of Monuments rewards, we will provide players the means by which they can transmute the stats/appearance of these particular items without having to purchase transmutation stones in the in-game store. The development team is still working out the exact mechanics of this, though.

They hinted at that in the FAQ, I thought this would be the way to approach it, nice one, I like the light armour great coat, be nice to be able to keep wearing it.

Remember these are items that won't give any of us an advantage, they are pure fluff, they won't be any better than items achieved through game play in GW2, they are just a visual reward for dedicated GW players.
Just wanted to remind you guys, these rewards suck. They're almost purely aesthetic. You don't have to feel like you need to play Guild Wars 1 to keep up. Really, these are just armor/weapon arts that either never made it in (The Heritage Armor Plate is from the GW 1 Art Book) or are just supposed to make those who DID play feel a little nostalgic.
If you never played GW1 or don't want to, then don't. You're not going to be hurt in any way by it. At most there might be a small bonus which makes them better than the crap you start with, but they're clearly not going to give you something which makes the rest of the gear in the game irrelevant before you even start playing. And all weapons come with the same attacks; meaning, a warhorn you get from the GW1 hall of monuments is not going to have better powers than one you got from an NPC in GW2. There's really nothing here besides fluff.
It's fluff I will enjoy working toward, mind ;3 but that's because I like the original game. Good job A-Net!

My score is only 16/50. Hopefully I'll reach 30 to rack up all the items. After 30 are titles only.
Also transmutation stones will be provided at no cost. You'll be able to use it on the armors/weapons. And all the rewards are account-bonded and cannot be traded or sold.
The weapon and armor sets are based on iconics in Guild Wars 1. Probably the most recognizable icon.
The armors was confirmed to be dyeable also. So that's 3 channels that can be colored for each piece in a set. Not sure about weapons.
Playing now: Cities: Skyline / Ori and the Blind Forest / Banished
so, anyone has seen a guide to tell you what the hell you need to do?, I just got playing....
Basically you just play the game. Anything you do, from exploring, completing missions with bonusses will grant you titles. You are then able to place these titles into your Hall Of Monuments. These grant you points. There are more things to do, like getting heroes and fitting them into a new armor suite, getting a pet, collecting minipets, ... There are a lot of options to get points. But it's actually when you played he game for quite some time it starts to pay off. So you won't be 'powerleveling your way to the 50 points'. It needs a serious amount of effort.
So my advice; just play the game, but don't fix yourself on getting those points just yet. Get to know the game a bit better first.
The ArenaNet marketing people are genius. I personally bought all 3 GW campaigns plus EotN, because of this. And yes, im a HUGE sucker for doing this, but meh, i dont care. GW is actually a great game, even though i remember not liking it a few years back.
I'm sure other people have done the same.

And even if you don't loike the armor, the titles, the pets, the weapons adn the rest, at least consider it will be a status symbol once GW2 is out and running for a few months.

Well since there is nothing better right now to play i think it's a nice incitative to go back play GW 1.... i havent touched it in 2 years.
too bad i dont play GW1
So What Now?
This is great news. It has piqued my interest in GW1 yet again and I'm glad I can get rewards without having a full HoM. Nicely done by A-Net.

I might actually buy all the xpacs now because of this.
