Job Classes are boring and are one of my personal downsides to FFXIV. In FFXI I could be all of these classes at 1 time. My WAR could hit you bare handed. use a 2 handed axe, a lance, a sword and board plus it could stand at a distance and shot ya. You could eve say the Lance job is a downgrade of the Drg class, GLD is the downgrade fo the Pld, MRD is the downgrade of the War and the Archer is the downgrade of the Rng class.
FFXI did the job class better and just my OP why this game took a couple leeps backwards..

There are 2 camps that hate this game
1. This group thinks there is too much effort to be done on their part to enjoy the game. They quit the game within weeks and post telling us about it. A good example of the folks in this camp are the WoW players expecting free epics on day 2 or more generally the people that dont want to try something new. This camp makes some good general points but take them to the extreme, such as menu lag and bugs. The extreme end of this camp, in the darkness...is the Troll, these are the people that are narcissistic and believe that because they are not enjoying the game no one should!
2. The second camp is clearer, they are the ones who come straight from FF IX and thought FF 14 would be the same game...the game is clearly different but has elements to the game that bring you back such as the 3 cities , races, and not as much so classes hearken you back to the old days. The sound, look, feel of the game screams FF IX but, the gameplay is just different enough for it not to be FF IX and this camp hates this.

You forgot the third camp. This camp dislikes the game not because they are used to WoW or FFXI, but because in their opinion, the game suffers from many, many flaws.
I disagree, Personally, I don't really care much for the game (RIGHT NOW). SE is the one that doesnt' talk about their class system much at all. I never played FFXI or whatever number but I think its SE's fault for not introducing key mechanics to the game early on.
If it were'nt for these forums and getting some direction I would have ran for the hills a long time ago with FFXIV however im bound and determined to break out of the negative circle because I believe the game can be good (from what ive played). SE needs to show off the class system a bit more, and even add public linkshells right away too for people to ask questions. Before I get all that shit about asking people to join a linkshell let me say that I have consistently around crystals been "/say Hey guys, noobie here looking for linkshell to join" and guess how many responses I got, even at peak. NONE, im bumbling around by myself. I digress, and im ok with trying to make the best of it.
The class system needs more attention, mainly on how to use it. NO it isn't intuitive for people who haven't played FF previously. Give people a break when they see these flaws, I don't BLAME anyone for dropping this game.

Damn you are pretty hyper sensitive over someone elses game honestly all he did was say what he thought of the game in comparison to what they had already accomplished (a fair comparison).
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

The reason you got no responses is because the majority of linkshells are long founded, at least on Besaid, and have existed on the internet for more than half a year and are already reaching or have reached the max amount of players available in an LS, which is like 100 something, I think 120. Go to the guild/linkshell forums on this website, there is a copious amount of people looking.
1. A majority of the worthwhile skills are picked up in the first 10 levels of each class for an addition to your main. There is pretty much no reason to go beyond 10. The exception is that the conjurer should get 20 of thaum.
2. The grind is already unbearably repetitive being that there are so few mob types in the game, the thought of starting from the lowest level mobs all over again is nauseating.
3. When you have to go back to the lower level mobs again your physical exp will be pitiful and like usual, the class exp is hit or miss randomly.
So the real reason no one talks about it? There is no need to ever do it and it would be mind numbing even if it were viable.
You should go past level 10 or your main would be worthless if you had level 10 skills an everyone else has the 3's an 4's you will be the weakest link. thats why they have stronger versions of the skills as you level up.

Seek an you shall find. I have a linkshell atm awesome! server Mysidia. we are PLAYING the game. you won't be able to get anywhere if you don't sit down an play it though . I picked up someone else from the game who was lost shouting for someone to speak to him in the crafting area etc so now hes in my linkshell an vent. good guy . about 24 of us atm we mostly use ventrilo an very few in chat. some coming form ff11 also. But the job switching is simply:
Level up on a particular job. The skills you unlock on that job can also be used on another class class.

Instead they took what worked and forgot it, what the fans hated and added it. In the end FFXI was more Final Fantasy then FFXIV is.
Fanbois claim this is "ahead of its time" Yet when you compare its copied and downgraded flaws especially comparing it to FFXi a game it is supposed to out due. Then you have the bois all up an arms crying about this or that. Like I said, its my "OP" that all this "ahead of its time" resulted in SE taking a War class from FFXI and chopping it up into all the fighting classes in FFXIV.

I consider myself a realist fanboy, I understand the other side. I have always liked love or hate products and art. The thing that upsets me, and way i even bother posting is because this game seems to be getting dramatic criticism and people are taking things to the complete extreme. Why? I dont know. Saying the game is unplayable is a complete lie. Tedious crafting? gathering? come on now...I respect and played EvE for a short while...the game gets much praise, deservingly so...but the mining, mission running, among other things is pretty damn tedious, and to certain extents boring...and thats a game that improved and has been out over 5 years. While there are some things i miss from FFXI such as...
Exp chains
Weapon chains
elemental chains
group aspect
mog house
etc..
I enjoy crafting alot more in this game...I also enjoy gathering more. The class system is interesting .. i still dont know what traits even do.
In the end, FF XIV is the epitome of love it or hate it MMO's. Even tho the minority love this game, does not give anyone the right to deter them from trying a game. I love the movie the fountain...if i had read reviews and judge the movie based on some old fart whos getting paid for his opinion i would have never saw this movie and would of missed out. I take nothing to the extreme, my job is merely to bring these opinions back to center. Is it the best game, the WoW killer, the world that you will call home? for some yes...for many no and thats ok...

Iam just curious, are you comparing FF XI to FFXIV? Really?really?! Lets compare FFXI in the year 2003 and FFIXV in the year 2010...I think there was 6 classes in 11 right? (white mage, black mage, red mage, warrior , monk, thief?) alot more basic when you compare FF XI in the year 2010. FF XIV ha s (Monk, White mage, "dark Mage". Warrior, Pick a DPS (Lancer, Marauder) and Archer) Thats 6 and 6....

True, when XI came out, i believe japan only had access first, the game was extremely small and linear, arguably worse than what XIV currently is.
By the NA release it had already gone through several major updates and an expansion, but still was not the game we know it to be within the past few years.
thats why i think you see tons of japanese in the game atm... they dont give a shit LOL they already know the future as well as I do. Tons in here atm always dominate the us in ff mmoprgs lol, an then they just feed ff11 to us a year later with an expansion which included all those advanced jobs. so i started 11 with too many jobs to play. had to unlock the advanced onces but still :P. then more expansions came. MORE JOBS! lol this doesn't stop.
I have heard of a rumored list for the games future is this true? heard it was from the .dat files of the game. If so look at this the game will have in the future as of "class system" alone:
To me the class system just feels like they didn't want to bother with class balancing so they just threw everything out there for people to play on one toon. While on one hand it is sort of interesting to be able to access all classes on one character, there needs to be more limits to it than just how long it takes you to grind out all levels in all the classes.
One of the most hidden gems about this game is its class system, and it is hidden behind all the negative UI post. IMO this has to be one of the best class systems in any MMO. For example, Iam a lvl 8 puglist, i learned 2nd wind at lvl 6(awesome heal spell) Iam now deciding if i want to go gladiator with my awesome heal spell and make a paladin type tank, or if i want to get my conjurer level 8 for shock spikes and then come back to my puglist with that awesome spell and easier solability. I am sure the system gets deeper as you get more ability points but, i think this is a positive in the game and should be a major reason why people might actual stay while SE smooths out the edges.
Simple really. This is not the only game where you can be and learn everything. EVE and DF both allow you to be everything. The changing weapon part is the only real difference. Other than that you can learn every skill. Not that revolutionary
This is absolutely ridiculous,,,WHAT DO YOU WANT! Class system WAH! I can play only 1 class. Multi class system WAH! its not revolutionary enough WAH!
What you think every game mechanic has to be revolutionary...you think the developers of your stupid utopian MMO has everything revolutionary...give me a break.
Logic is not being used here, we are not consistent...this is an argument that is presented in a way where it can not be won. The rules are set by the speaker...The class system sucks because it has done before can be applied to many MMO's today

It's a real pity about the UI, it is completely wretched and overshadows and taints many of the good aspects of the game. They need to move it fully clientside so it quits lagging and deal with the botting in another manner.
Class system is definitely neat on paper. We'll see how it all works out in the end but if it's anything like other games that tried to do this, there will be very direct cookie-cutter builds that you'll HAVE to be or people aren't going to want you in their party and you won't be effective.
While it's a great system, the game manages to spoil any good qualities it may have with it's mind-numbingly terrible ones.
In the end, the class system isn't going to make a bit of difference. The "optimal" build for every class will emerge, and the entire community will follow suit. It's going to be the same shit as FFXI; don't dare have the wrong or underleveled sub-job, or you simply won't get a group for anything. The difference being, that at least in FFXI all of the jobs had a different feel to them. in XIV, they all feel exactly the same.
It's not really that impressive. It's great in theory and is what actually brougth me to the game, but having leveled most things up it kind of all became utterly pointless.
You have a point restriction system that keeps you from having too many abilities hotkeyed. There also seemed to be some odd OTHER restrictions on certain abilities, but there wasn't any pop up notes or anything in the hover text to explain what was keeping this or that ability from being used by the new class.
Switching these abilities about the bars is cumbersome at best.
Then there's the having to swtich more often than you'd think to each of the classes, gathering or combat, which meant more time in the HORRIBLE menu to move the abilities around to suit the new role. There are macros out there to make this eaiser, but you can't alt tab out to quickly snag them, nor use a ctrl paste feature anyway. So you manually have to write out some code to only moderatly speed up the process. Which is something I can't wait to see for the PS3 launch, which I doubt happens.
Okay so you're all good and dandy and you have about 6 hot keyed abilities as your choice. But they're all pretty much the same. Pug's can give you earth elemental hits while Gladiators gives you fire which is almost the same move, but a different element.
Okay cool... Element damage can be fun in games with some strategy.
Higher levels there's less than a handful of moments where this matters.
Really, even the combat system sucks. It's the most noteworthy feature of the game, but it still just feels sloppy.

Feel free to remove panties from crack. He asked why it was not the talk of the town and I gave a simple answer. There is nothing revolutionary for this genre and honestly I could care less but why go on about something that has been done. Now go finish middle school and figure out when to rant and when not to..
Ill give you a simple answer back....By your logic the only class system that would be impressive is the one YOU create...time for you to go to school and become a game designer because by your standards, no mmo combat will make you happy.

At no time did I say that. I enjoy various MMOs but for other reasons than their combat. I love EVE for the economy and politics. Love FE for the setting and enjoy DF for the paranoia and the world they crafted. Combat in most MMOs is trivial and easy. Sure there are exceptions to that rule but for the most part it is point, attack and win. Sure you have certain builds and at some point gear becomes the reason for the season and all that.

FFXI and FFXIV are the only games I ever died more than ounce in the first 10 levels.

I am camp #3, I am a former FFXI player who thought that maybe, just maybe, that SE would have took all the good from FFXi and improved on all the bad and make FFXIV the new FFXI.
Yawn... go back to Wow, go back to FFXi yadda yadda yadda.

The Class system is Awesome and one of the biggest things I am looking forward to when I go back...after they fix all of the broken crap first :-)
I don't like paying for Beta and can afford to wait :-)

This is absolutely ridiculous,,,WHAT DO YOU WANT! Class system WAH! I can play only 1 class. Multi class system WAH! its not revolutionary enough WAH!
What you think every game mechanic has to be revolutionary...you think the developers of your stupid utopian MMO has everything revolutionary...give me a break.
Logic is not being used here, we are not consistent...this is an argument that is presented in a way where it can not be won. The rules are set by the speaker...The class system sucks because it has done before can be applied to many MMO's today

the class system is pretty exciting on paper, just a shame that all the classes that are currently implented are daft and boring.
Bar none, they got the class system right.

Ill give you a simple answer back....By your logic the only class system that would be impressive is the one YOU create...time for you to go to school and become a game designer because by your standards, no mmo combat will make you happy.

"Combat in most MMOs is trivial and easy. Sure there are exceptions to that rule but for the most part it is point, attack and win"
FFXI and FFXIV are the only games I ever died more than ounce in the first 10 levels.
