IGN has "Finished" its review of FF14. All in all I would have to say its very fair.
Final score 5.5/10 "Mediocre"
http://pc.ign.com/articles/112/1123824p1.html
To sum it up in a nutshell:
FF14 has great ideas. Most of which are held back by either being unfinished (Market / Content) or are very bogged down by the clunky interface (Combat, shopping, managing bazaar, etc.)
The author heeps praise on the ability to freely multi-class and mix abilities. He does seem harsh on the lack of a good tutorial.
All in all, it recognizes the actual problems that players recognize as well. I think if they go back and re-review it in 6mos to a Year, they'll have a much different perspective.
So long, and thanks for all the fish!

I'm coming to like the mediocre-scored reviews. They're fair. It's not that Final Fantasy XIV is a terrible game, but it certainly is far from perfect. To go a little further and claim there's no chance this game could ever be entertaining unless they completely reinvented it - as some reviewers have - seems to me to be a little irrational.
Heres a perfect review of that game, which sums up that game perfectly.......A beautiful game with tons of short comings....A beautiful failure.

and again someone who says that gamespot is a reliable source.
We who like the game, realize that the game has major flaws. What we also have is faith in the game.
We know what SE is capable of, and having played FF11, know also what the game should end up looking like.
The score is fair, and I have nothing about it to argue about. They have made valid points. I also feel that every one of their points is "easily" fixable. I do not expect this to be the same game in another 6 months.

Now that is a good game review, I just wish the other, less professional reviewers would take note and learn. And yes I'll gladly take that rating as its honest, detailed, and to the point. It gives the person reading the review all the important details about what is and isnt in the game at this time. And without any type of bias. Yes, very well done. Something the public can read and use to become more informed and base thier own choice off of on if they wish to try the game or not.

OK. WOW. Every source that anyone takes seriously has totally trashed this game. IGN, Gamespot, Game Trailer, Game Spy, and the list goes on. The only positive reviews seem to come from sites that sell the thing. The game sucks right now. End of story. It's broken as hell, and the sooner people stop making excuses or totally ignoring this fact, the sooner perhaps that Square will get the message and actually make this game playable. Right now it is a junker that cant even compete with most F2P games, and cant even compete with FF11, lol.
The .5 makes it cute.
Really I think this game will solely be supported by simpletons and furries within 60 days.
Seems to be the only crowds holding on.
Pretty much.
The score by any stretch doesn't mean that the game is good, or even worth playing. Most rational folk look at scores and grade them on sort of a bell curve of "suckiness".
If this exact game were developed and released by an unknown company for it's first attempt it may slide by and people would be more lenient, but the fact that it's a well-known IP that has released a dozen games already on this lore is just sad. They had every opportunity to make a good game I don't think they are going to pull out a win on this anytime soon.
It would be interesting for someone to figure out the highest deviance of any review score of any MMO over it's lifetime and use those odds to predict what this game could possibly achieve over it's development. It may possibly give insight to how long it may take to acheive this change also.
"I'm not cheap I'm incredibly subconsciously financially optimized"
"The worst part of censorship is ------------------"
Its because of the history of games that I'm willing to give this game more than a passing glance. If this game was other than SE, I would probably have cancelled my sub by now.
SE's primary history is in good stories and a great game atmosphere. Right now, both of those exist in the game. What's lacking is meaningful content. That is the primary thing driving me off. FF11 had alot of little story quests spread throughout the game. So far this has 1 every 10 levels, and it looks like a pittance spread elsewhere. That can and will be changed if the history of FF11 means anything.
The market already has improvements inbound. They'll take a bit of time and see how the changes are accepted and then decide the direction they want to go from there.
The interface might be a bigger problem, and I am uncertain how much of it will change.
My only reason that I'm staying is faith that SE's standards have fallen by the wayside, and that they will correct course on this game in the near term.
So long, and thanks for all the fish!
