I wanna grind!

FiseguriFiseguri Member Posts: 4

I mostly wanted to make a catchy thread title... but it is true I guess, I enjoy grinding a bit more than the average person.

I got the MMORPG bug again as I tried "Martial Empires" which is running ads now. However, I dont think this is "the pefrect one" either :D

Here are my criteria. Hopefullly some of you can give me some suggestions to which game to try.

  • Asian-style MMORPGs are appealing with all their items and item upgrading. I feel cool when I have better gear than other noobs :D But it doesnt have to be of Asian make.

  • FFA PVP with no restrictions suck, plainly because I dont have all my attention towards the game at all times.

  • PVP zones are nice. PVP factions are great.

  • I enjoy crafting.

  • Complex is good.

  • Cash shop is fine. It may in-fact be the only way I can compete with people half my age :D

Some games I have played and enjoyed is: Lotro, 9dragons, Shayia.

Go to the game list, select free to play, close your eyes and randomly click on a game!

This game should have everything youre looking for.

    Sounds about right. :)

There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

Hehe, I suppose you two are right. It was harder to put into words than expected, but there are so many of these types of games that just plainly sucks. Graphics from previous milennium, ridiculous controls and horrible translations.

I just tried SUN now. They spent all their money on graphics for player characters, so the interface and parts of the world looks very bad in comparison :)  So I should add "no sucky graphics" on my list.

Did also download Vindictus before I realised I live in the wrong part of the world :s

If you don''t mind P2P you could try the trial of Aion, Darkfall and maybe Lineage 2.

I would recommend Aion to you. Martial Empires is pretty much a half-assed, potion heavy, boring combat, wannabe clone of Aion. You will see what I mean if you try it lol. I don't know if they have any free trials but they might. I was looking around my room for a buddy key but I must have either thrown it away or it didn't come with one. I don't really know what else to recommend to you.

You could look into anarchy online or bounty bay may/may not be your thing.  Also planeshift for a 100% free mmo,  is a bit heavy on the rp side although they do have a non rp server now

Otherwise as said sort the games on the list by price and off you go.  You could also type free mmorpg into a search engine or another site such as mmohut

You may be right. Installing the 3rd or 4th MMO now, and I am starting to learn more about what I like :) I like good quality - which usually comes in p2p packages. I am downloading a demo for Aion now.  Pretty screenshots.

I havn't played it, but from what I heard Aion would be your game. The only major downside to the game, that I have heard, is the long grind. :)

Yeah Aion or Lineage 2 would be my reccomendations. I mean if you REALLY REALLY like grinding Lineage 2 would be your game. It's really all it has is grinding, quests aren't worth it unless they are class change quests, or lottery style quests where you have a really small chance of getting adena (gold). Aion is like Lineage just with a tad less grind, and more focus on questing / pve.

If  you want grind, FFXIV has it in truckloads.

I gotta say I agree with OP. Grinding mobs is pretty much like opening x-mas presents, you never know what you will come by. It's a shame really there's no such thing as 'lucky drop' in western MMOs. Or reason to grind certain mobs for something else than a few quest items.

Crafting, for instance, should always involve some grinding, like pelts and fur from bears and wolves to make leather jackets. Killing tons of mobs for some exp is retarded but trying to get some rare drops gives grinding a meaning.

  • KarahandrasKarahandras Member UncommonPosts: 1,703

Also dungeons andd dragons online has a twist to the grinding, but not really an mmo(tbh not really an mo)

P.S. would be nice if p2p meant quality but some of the worst mmo's that have been released come with a monthly price tag, then again probably depends on what you consider quality.

    Hey,

AikA global ( eu only ) has massive pvp focus and a grind but not a huge grind it has quests to end game but the later quests require some grind

Archlord was one of the better Asian grinders, F2P. It seems it's taken a less grindy approach with xp boost via events and items lately but might be worth a look for you.

I settled for Aion  - at least for a while.

I keep forgetting how much better the subscription games are. And Aion seems to be a bit more grindy that other games :)

    Thanks for the help everybody!
