Looking for a MMO to replace FFXIV

BushybobBushybob Member Posts: 7

Basically for the last 6-7 years i've played FFXI on and off, had waited eagerly for FFXIV but quite frankly it has disappointed. So now looking for my new mmo fix.

I'm really NOT keen on pvp,  and much prefer the party based play FFXI demanded, was thinking of going for Aion but heard it is quite PvP heavy. Have dabbled with Lotro and WoW in the past so would really prefer something i haven't played before.

May try WoW again but a bit out the loop in regards to the expansion packs? Burning crusade and the new one (forget its name). Would they be recommend for a new player? or just a waste of money until end game level.

Everyone seems a bit out of the loop at the moment, due to the 4.0.1 changes.   I resubbed the other day, and to be honest it seems to play more like vanilla WoW again.     There's people around leveling, but it still seems very much soloing until level cap.

I would wait till Cataclysm comes out unless you're already set up in WoW. 2 new races, Goblin or Worgen, new zones to level in.

If you dont mind old school, personally I'd try out EQ1. Its group oriented and has enough content to keep you busy for over a decade if you've never played it before.

As much as I despise wow... I will say the new patch is kinda cool...but I still hate them from the depths of my cold dead heart.

Hows the user base for EQ1? (also wouldn't EQ2 be better?). One part of ffxi i got tired of was waiting for parties, so would be reluctant to play an older mmo if it means i'd be forced to wait silly amounts of time for enough party members.

I agree with Pyro to a point...

EQ 1 would just be awesome if you could get into it like we did way back when. Now, seems if you don't have a ton of friends, you just get lost in all the expansionism.

WoW is still a great game to solo or group. LotRO...same if you are into LotR

I never played EQ1 but I DID play Ultima Online for many years. However, I could not go back to that game. Graphics do impact my enjoyment of the game to "some" degree.

<br>I started playing FFXI(recently, new player, new account) and It was ALOT of fun despite the graphics. However I quit because It was very hard to start out as a new player(ever ran to Juno from Bastok before? I managed to do it, but I had to keep doing it and I was broke), and I couldn't find groups easily, sometimes it took days.

EQ2 is kinda like EQ1 and WoW had a baby...then dropped it on its head and got it hooked on meth.

Its not  a bad game persay... its just not Eq1 at all.

I honestly cant speak for the Eq1 playerbase... as I havent played in a few years. However, if one could find a group to play with on a semi regular basis, and actually did all the content it could be quite fun. Its just a much slower paced game than most today... and at least back in the day required quite a bit of time to progress.

I remember spending my entire spring break back in high school grinding my butt of 10 hours a day with my brother and we went from 30 - 36 and thought we were rocking. Now a days... that just doesnt fly with MMO's and quite honestly... thats probably a good thing.

However, what I miss is the dungeon crawls. Walking into a dungeon, fighting to a camp, then catching your breath and trying to move a bit deeper. Eventually hitting a wall were you simply couldnt go deeper at your current level. That part I do miss. Dungeon crawls are now pretty much a thing of the past. LOTRO has pretty good crawls... but thats about it.

And I just noticed I'm rambling again...
