FINAL FANTASY XIV Free Trial Period Extension

ReizlaReizla Member RarePosts: 4,092

First of all, we would like to thank you for joining us in the realm of Eorzea, and hope you are enjoying your adventures.

Since the official launch of service on September 30, 2010, we have received a wealth of constructive feedback from the FINAL FANTASY XIV community, and the development and management teams would like to take this opportunity to express their sincerest gratitude. For those who purchased the collector’s edition and began to play one week before official service began, the month-long free play period is drawing to a close. Considering the nature of much of the feedback we received, however, and the current state of the game, we have decided to extend the free trial period for all users. Please continue reading for further details.

We would like to assure players that the world of FINAL FANTASY XIV is constantly growing and evolving, and the voices of the community are essential to that process. The development and management teams are carefully considering all player feedback, and working diligently to implement whatever changes and additions will serve to make Eorzea a better home for adventurers. We humbly ask for your continued support to this end.

Today, we have released information regarding forthcoming version updates. For further details, please view the following Lodestone Topics:

Hmmm thanks for that post. While I do appreciate the effort in PR that SE has tried here, I simply won't be resubbing. In another month, the game will be in roughly the same shape as it is now with nothing but repeat leves to do waiting on my next story to unlock. I think they are offering the free month partly because they are receiving a shocking amount of cancellations and poor reviews. Good to see they did this tho

    Well done SE.

    Not bad :)

  • how do you get a free trial? I wanna try the game out before I buy it

"Further changes we have planned for the near future, which will be coming sometime after the first version update, include the following:

Search feature to allow item searches by individual wards

Icon display to identify retainers selling sought-after items

Increase in the number of retainers that may be employed"

    Not bad at all.

    Buddy key.

But what they mean by free trial is the free 30 days that come with the purchase of the game.

Between this and the plans they have that are mentioned in the following thread.......

    http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/294974/Message-from-Director-and-Planned-Changes-NovDec.html

..... sound like a good start.

Have to agree...very pleasantly surprised, for once.

    Unexpected, cool stuff :)

This is good news.  I like playing the game, but is a mess and should have never hit store shelves in this condition.  By January the game should be in a reasonable release condition.

i don't think this extension matters much for those that unsubbed.  they left for a reason due to the current state of the game, and giving them free 30 days to endure more is not gona change anything.  it's a "wait and see" on what they will actually deliver in december.

^ This. I already unsubbed after the first week and their changes they 'plan' to make are for December. Why would I want to keep playing if nothing is going to be different unless after my extended days are over? It's a nice gesture though and I do think the game will get better... just for the PS3 release, PC gamers are just here to beta test for them.

"The Free Trial Period" I find kind of humorous because the free trial cost me $50 lol

Three cheers to all the folk I've been bickering with over the past month.  They just got me another 30 free days to play the game I enjoy. ;)

What blows me away... I suggested this last week on FFXIV core and now they go and do pretty much everything I suggested. Creepy.

    Check out my post.

Either I sadly think just like an SE producer, or someone read my thread.

SE seems to be listening considering the extra month and the upcoming changes which pretty much address the majority of complaints.

It's funny that so many are content with this...it seems as if they completely forgot that a BIG reason this game is no good is because it has no content...what is there answer to that?  More guildleves....Great.......

They are going to fix menus?  how about eliminating them altogether?  thats a good start.....

It will be the same game after these proposed fixes...

Hope is not lost after all! With how SE is doing right now and listening to feedbacks, I bet FFXIV will be the best MMORPG with only having a bad start. Hey, not all winners start good anyways right? I wasted 2years of my college just playing online games(RF Online, WoW, etc..) before and now I'm a Nurse. Kudos to SE!

    Very nice!

Happy to see this.  Now to get out the content they plan to release and all will be golden!

the free period extension was the least they could do I am however glad they did it.

I know this is a good thing, but...

I was on a buddy key and stopped playing before my free time was up. This was because I didn't see any point in playing a game that I was not enjoying (free or otherwise). Will free time really help people stick around or will this free time only help those that already want to play?

  • UnlightUnlight Member Posts: 2,540

That was certainly unexpected, but most definitely a step in the right direction.  SE might actually be on the path to restoring some confidence in themselves that so many lost over the last few weeks.

    Well-deserved kudos.

Actually, since the buddy keys work as retail keys, buddy key accounts will be extended also.

Ya know, I actually cannot bitch. Not only is SE obviously stepping up and recognizing their shortcomings, they're actually dealing with them.

Now this is how they are going to earn my subscription.

    Well done SE.
