The gil sellers will still ply their trade and everyone else gets fucked by the UI lag).

This. If the input lag is here to stay, then I am out. It kills me when I have to navigate through four menus to sell a single item all the while dealing with 10 second delays at each menu. It's atrocious. I just can't imagine SE being happy with it the way it is, but I've not seen them say a word about it. I'm okay with playing a slower paced game, but it needs to remain responsive.

Like I said above, it has nothing to do with the net coding is horrible. The system is designed to work optimally under a certain workload and obviously they were underestimate or over look the live workload. Just like Blizzard did when they release WoW. Instead of over-engineer the hardware they go under to probably save on hardware cost. SE probably did the same here.

Now they will have to throw more hardware at it to rebalance the workload, so it will take time.

Notable lag has been observed in certain areas of the game, particularly when a large number of players are gathered together. To combat this, such areas will be divided into multiple "sections" for the purposes of server-side processing, thereby reducing concentrated loads and subsequent lag on individual World servers."

Thats a bit scary though, if I had noticed that part earlier I would have commented on it. What worries me about this is are they saying they will be instancing the zones ala CO and GW?

No, there will not be instancing zones. Everything will be exactly like it is right now. This change is completely server side. This is SE pulling another Blizzard right here.

Remember the database lag from the WoW launch. That's because the initial back-end database design for WoW was very stupid, rigid and not scalable. For those who does not realize that WoW also have an incredible long closed beta and a very big open beta. Yet, they still let that design went into release. So, at that time, Blizzard had to perform database splits and scale up on their live database which results in extended downtime and crashed for months (almost 2 months for some servers). They basically throw hardware at the problem to work it out.

SE is doing the same thing here. They are throwing hardware at the hot spot to absorb the blow. Eventually when those areas nolonger are hot spot, they will take the hardware away.

Hardware acquisition and deploy are never fast. From vendor to data center, it would take several weeks or months. That's why it would not happen right now.

This is very interesting information, thanks for pointing this out :D Hopefully they can get the hardware implemented sooner rather than later!

    Thanks.

    First part Yes.

Second part - dunno to be honest. I am guessing that it goes by the registration key (the buddy key is listed as a trial key in their systems while the registration key isnt). So I would probably say no it wont work...

Maybe someone should ask SE for a bit of clarity on that.

Ok well it's more then enough hehe thanks.

I was going to wait till first month the game launched ends but you must be dumb to not want an extra free month with your already free month :D

I know for some, you don't get a second chance to make a first impression.  For those of you that think SE and FFXIV is hopeless and that nothing they do will change your mind, ...... then..... goodbye, goodluck and have fun in another game.

For those of us who enjoy the game currently, this is really great news that our devotion and hopeful outlook will come to fruition.

For those of you on the fence, these are some good reasons to stay tuned, or keep playing as the changes are being implemented.

For those of you who are not "having fun" I doubt that anything will change your mind.  The game, at its heart, is what it is.  So move on.

For those of you who like the game but hated the UI, lag, lack of features.....do yourself a favor and keep this game in your mind.  More of you will see this game taking the direct path FFXI did in its development.

In a few years, this game will have more end game than other games combined.  There was more to do in FFXI end game that you could ever possibly do.

I CAN'T WAIT to get back home tonight and do some leves with some friends!!! Good START SE, let's see how much of it you actually implement in the time you said you would implement it.

Actually, it's more along the lines of how CCP handles Jita space in EVE. You'll still all be together in one world, not instanced, they're just spreading the processing power needed for the larger concentration of players in that area across multiple servers in a cluster.

The buddy key is actually a retail key, meaning whoever uses it is treated as if they also paid $50 for the client.

If you use the buddy key first, then try to extend the account with the regular key, it will not work. You would just have two FFXIV accounts active.

In terms of contents, this is pathetic. Barely anything new is introduced. They're just "fixing" things that should have been working in the first place.

What a major /fail this game turned out be... what wasted potential.

Sorry but this is the wrong mentality.  The added 30 days is the only thing that may possibly save this game.  I am actually enjoying the game a bit, despite HUGE problems and poor development.  It isn't because the game is good  though, its because I have nothing else to play at the moment.  I was perfectly ready to cancel my account at the end of the month, and im sure a VERY LARGE % of players were going to do the same as well.    You may not care, but if 50-75% of people cancel their subscription any time soon, this game is dunso.  It would become Vanguard, and even if they redeemed themselves it would be too little too late.  I  really hope SE has something big planned before the next 30-days runs out or a similar situation will be upon us.  Right now they really need to fix the UI lag, and then figure out a way to make the game FUN.  Its somewhat fun right now because its new, but its still one big grindfest.  Im pretty sure everyone has figured out, " Ok i need 15,900 SP to level, and I can get about 150 per kill, at about 20 kills per hour........... And if I need to repair my gear every 2 hours,........ it will take me xx hours before I can recalculate how long it will take me to reach the next level"....  wow that sounds like fun to me.  At least WOW and EQ disguised the grind with endless quests.

Simple. because Wow cataclysm is going to be released on Dec 7. They want to retain/attract players as much as possible.

    Games on my waiting list:
    Guild War 2

So why couldn't they do all of this basic, necessary-in-a-modern-MMO stuff during development?

The best part of this to me is the haters trying to spin it in such a way that they can take credit for fixing the game! hah Because obviously if you talk shit about the game you hate on forums everywhere it's your, sincere, efforts that will ultimately fix the game, the game you hate and refuse to play.          People comparing this to WoW database problems are hilarious.  The hardware and software used is completely transformed from what is was back then.  We are talking 4-8 times faster (not to mention many times cheaper)  than what it was when WoW released.  If they went with an SSD platform it would totally destroy anything in early WoW's wildest dreams.

If I was setting up an MMO with the possibility of competing with another that makes 100million dollars of profit a month, I'd sure as hell use the technology that would make it possible.  I don't know if they are set up on the latest hardware or not, but if they aren't and that's what's causing the player lag then I'd say they started digging their own graves before the game was even allowed to go online.

The more information that's released about this the more people are going to shake their head in amazement that the developers of this game are allowed to continue.  I think they should just issue everyones money back and allow people to play till these "magic patches" are actually in game.  How many patches are going to introduce bugs that need fixed again?  It happens all the time when developers start mad patching, they start breaking stuff that actually worked.  I can't wait to see what happens this year.

The best thing about this is that it will be a wake up call for all the other MMO's that think they can pull this off.

If people have no knowledge how uge databases work and how much time is eaten up by processes and throw around selfinvented numbers, they should actually learn how these thinks work.

Hardware  4- 8 times faster emans actually nothing by this amount data we are talking about that.  You need around systems that are  100 or 200 times faster to reach a double in your speed.

The most spead is gain the way how the database is programmed.  Bigger Memory mainly helps you to save more informations but tehre is a limit on how much and how fast the data can be worked down.  It is all about how the data is accessed  and the hardware only plays a minor role.

maybe im a bit too skeptical, but it took them five years to make the game we see today, why should i believe theyre gonna fix all the problems in a few months. not to mention the fact that up until 3 weeks ago, they were defending all these bad design implementations. funny how their tune changes when their wallet takes a hit. it tells me they really dont give a crap about making a great game. it makes them look like they are only willing to make a game "good enough" to keep people from quitting. thats a pretty poor work ethic imo.

Definitely a knee-jerk reaction.  There's no way they planned on making so many changes immediately after releasing the game.  SE had the $$ to not be forced into early release like other MMO.

For everyone looking forward to the change, they should be extremely grateful for all the negative posts/reviews which drowned out the fanboi love.

Just another example of why loyal fans should not try to tell dissatisfied players to STFU & dissappear.  No way this MMO gets so much love so quickly without the massive amounts of negative press.

I remember getting into a heated debate with some of the more rabid fans of the game as it is telling them the exact same thing, ironically while most of those people post on every single negative thread about how things were meant to be that way for whatever reason in defense of FF14 I haven't seen a single one come and comment in this one yet.

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

people that like WoW will play the new addon now matter what. but there are person out there that don't like WoW (i tried it for 3 weeks and still didn't like it). so there is "this" base and there is "that" base.

LOL, That listing is so funny. I remember posting a patch I called the "Walker Patch". It was simply major things wrong with that game from open beta. The suggestings I made, sent the Fanbois yelling so much, they were foaming at the mouth. Simple shit, like icons over NPC for quest and a revamp of the UI. To me this made perfect sense seeing that EVERY MMORPG out there does this, NO not FFXIV, that had chose to ignor everyone else and decide to reinvent the wheel. Again this is so funny as I would love to hear what those Fanbois think of their game crashing and burning. SEE Fanbois? I told you your game was crap from the start, now the creators have told you, are you still so deaf dumb and blind?

I've been standing back reading what's been going on here and there leading up to the game's release.  I never tried FF XI but I don't mind trying new franchises and all that.  A major concern for me are cross platform releases, Console + PC versions.

In terms of MMORPGs, I have voiced a negative opinion on such releases and especially on what they do to the User Interface, namely making the game optimized for a controller instead of what the Mouse & Keyboard allows.

Unfortunately for FF XIV, it has become a shining example of a new, big name release to back up my POV that cross platform releases usually screw over the PC version's UI.  Review after review, no matter where I read them, the UI is specifically pointed out that it is so bad that it makes playing the game an utter chore.  Puzzling to me considering it's Square Enix and that they have at least 1 MMORPG completed under their belt and lessons learned.  On such releases, developers never had in mind the PC market other than a cheap, token effort in a cash grab.

It is good to see that these changes are coming to tweak the game, but weren't the bulk of these changes being made being requested  well before this game ever went live?  They could have saved themselves a lot of grief if they would have listened to the majority of the beta testers that were already clamoring about these issues.

Still, looks like they are listening to players and trying to make changes for the better.  Should make some happy that these changes are coming.

To little to late, seriously even with the UI fix and adding more monsters.

It doesnt change the fact the game concept is boring overall.

    Classes are unintresting and boring.

guildleve are just dailie quest by just killing monsters with no story or imersion whatsoever.

If it came from a fisherman with a dialog saying He need those pesky crabs killed, and he would give me a fishingpole as a reward I would actualy care doing the quest.

Not some dude behind a corner that hands out pretty cards of kill this and kill some more.

Graphics thats it, they poured there whole atention to graphics, the fundemental base of a MMO that makes it entertaining isnt there.

All there is a pretty but laggy graphic engine, with boring classes (most of em tradeskill classes so the players would be fooled there are alot of classes to choose from)

Man in alpha and in closed beta I told them NOT to release it, first impression is EVRYTHING, did they lisen ? no, they did lisen in the jap forums more or less, but hey we know chinese dont like the japs right maybe thats why they put a  turd on this game to screw us all.

far too late, beta is over and so is my subscription.

i will pirate my next 2 SE games after this one to make up for my expenses. i strongly advise everyone to not fall for those promises, heard those too many times in this genre. this game will be shit for the next 6-9 months (if its not closed before that).
