Euro playing US servers

How would my EU based friend play with my friends and I in the USA?

Is it possible to make a US f2p account from Europe?

He already downloaded a client in Europe. Would it be incompatible with US LOTRO play?

Thanks for any help!

He would need to download a US client and contend with different time zones, but there's no problem otherwise (Turbine isn't blocking European IPs, for example). I'm from EU and play on US servers just fine with some ~140 ping.

Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.

He just needs to get the "normal" Turbine client from www.lotro.com, in the upper right there are the country flags in this case he needs to pick the US flag and then simply follow the instructions on screen. However its important that he clicks the US flag first, otherwise the site autodetects where you are from depending on your IP address to give you the "right" client, which would be the wrong in his case.

Related question for those in the know -

If I have a turbine account with a premium LOTRO (I played previously), but at the time that I played I lived in the United States and have since MOVED to Europe, will I be able to create characters on EU servers with this account? I'm not really fussed about my old characters so much, its been so long that I would need to figure out what I'm doing from scratch anyway :) But this account is linked to all my other turbine accounts so it would be a lot simpler if I didn't have to make another.

    Gaming? That's not gaming!
That's just people sat 'round in costumes drinking...

No, you have to use a Codemasters account instead, since Codies run the game in the MMO-third-world that is Europe. Only GOA would be a worse fate for LOTRO.

RIFT was a *crushing* disappointment; a shallow, loveless, generic MMO the likes of which hasn't been seen in a P2P format since, well, forever.

Eagerly awaiting: World of Darkness, ArcheAge.

Just a heads up, your friend may encouter a few problems when playing on the US servers from the EU with the cash shop. I couldn't get the damn thing to work via paypal or credit card. No problems with the EU version though.

You can just play on the US servers though with your account, no reason not to.

EU version does not have a cash shop, and it works fine for most people from europe as far as i can tell. Atleast if you have a standard Master- or Visacard. Never had a problem with buying from turbine, nor is it a problem for all those DDO players that play on Turbines servers now.
