due to international trade and tax laws, it is hard to give free stuff to people in other countries. canada is hard enough because if i remember correctly it is against the law to get free prizes, and as a workaround they are forced to answer some simple questionaire in order to "earn" their prize if their name comes up. that being the case, every additional country involves more paperwork/lawyers, and a company is forced to choose what areas they will and will not support because allowing the contest to be truly international would be a nightmare of legal work.

if you are in a country other then the united states or canada, it is likely that you will be allowed to enter the drawing. However, if you actually win you will need to have a valid verifiable mailing address within one of those 2 countries in order to legally recieve the prize. by "legally" what i mean is that cryptic and mmorpg.com will gladly give the prize to a citizen of poland or wherever, so long as they can do it without having to worry about being sued by poland.

if you can prove to them that you are a legal citizen living in the us or cananda, then they can give you the prize without being liable for crazy trade/tax laws that they were not aware of. if later on it turns out that you were indeed NOT a citizen of the us or canada, and there WAS some crazy law against giving you free stuff, then YOU are the one that lied, and therefore mmorpg.com is off the hook and their lawyers are satisfied because all of the liability rests on you.

    TL/DR:

if you are not from the US/Canada you may enter the contest, but you will probably have to prove that you live in the US/Canada before they will mail the prize to you.

What would I do with it....

Probably sell it to buy my lappy so I can start playing games more again.

Forever looking for employment. Life is rather dull without it.

So, do Americans (and Candians) gripe about contests they can't enter held by sites in Poland and Germany?

I mean, seriously people, you do realize that each country has different laws? That's why they are different countries, after all.  It's nothing personal, but to get a contest vetted for every country on earth would costs tens of thousands of dollars (or Euros or whatever) in lawyer fees.

Atleast you dont have to play the game and then answer questions about it to enter for the prize. Cause no one would win then =)

the reason is customs laws.  they would have to declare a value of the contents of the package, and you would have to pay a tax to pick it up.

if you sign up and win, when they find out your shipping address you'll be ineligible and they'll pick someone else.

if you find a north american friend to claim it and ship it to you, you'll either have to pay the customs tax, or he can roll the dice on committing international mail fraud and declare a 'gift' value of zero.

don't like it? talk to your local government.

    have a blessed thread.
