Since I live in the sticks and don't have access to dsl or cable, does anyone know if EQ2 is playable on a dialup?

Quite playable. Of course the initial patch dowload when you install the game takes over two days so be warned.
I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.
Ya i dont think you want to get the game with 56K. And that patch download is going to be a killer. You are going to have your phoneline tied up for 2 days

It's not quite as bad as you might think. You can stop the patching at any time and resume when you need to. It took me about 5 nights of patching with a 26K connection. After the (absoultely brutal) initial patch dowload, it's been playing fine.
I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.
Your main problem will be patching. Playing the game will be fine. It's much more stressful on your machine than it is your internet connection
