Star Trek Online: Looking for a New Ride?

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Star Trek Online players looking for a bright shiny new ride may want to head to the STO Store to take a look at the iconic 24th Century Advanced Research Vessel. This ship has been retrofitted for a new century with seating for five, six weapons slots and lots more.

It also features Subsystem Targeting and a Tachyon Detection Grid that will increase Starship Sensors as well as Stealth Detection. When the grid is active, it also increases the Starship Sensors and Stealth Detection of all nearby allies. Those allies, in turn, can extend those benefits for allies near them, thereby extending the overall size of the grid. The Tachyon Detection Grid is not modified by Stats or Auxiliary Power.

Is it just me or has there been more content released for the C-Store than the regular game?

"Sean (Murray) saying MP will be in the game is not remotely close to evidence that at the point of purchase people thought there was MP in the game."  - SEANMCAD

This ship is both in-game (energy credit currency for the Commander-rank T3 version and for Marks of Exploration for the Admiral T5 version) and in the C-Store (if you ZOMG NEEEEED to have the T5 version NAUUU)

Wow more Cstore content rofl.   Oh well I went back 6 months after launch to find the game the same as it was when I left in in beta.  It took me  3 weeks to get to max level vice admiral.

The only things at that level are to run daily missions,  or roll an alt using a different tree layout.

Oh well me and cryptic parted ways of my 30 day stint.

State of the sto = more cstore content, very little ground fixes some space fixes, and sosdd.

Actually I'm looking for an old ride.

We've begged and we've begged but we still have no mechanism to refit our old ships so that they can remain competitive at high levels.

You apparently missed the part about both the T3 and T5 versions being available ingame, and on the C Store only if you don't want to grind out the marks to get it.

Zoom, point missed completely.  You apparently can't grasp the fact that there is no achievement in grinding for it when someone can buy it in the store???

There is no point in earning something when someone else can buy it in the store!

If you're opposed to microtransactions and you want this ship model, that'd be a reason for using the in-game means for getting it.

Grinding because you think it's an achievement?  That's just sad.

An achievment is a College Degree, a mountain climbed, a child raisd well, a life saved in a natual disaster, helping out your sick neighbor with the yardwork, Building a picnic table, learning to do your own laundry....

    But maybe that's just me.

Those are good deeds.  Achievments can both be good and bad. You have a good outlook in your real life and I applaud you for it.  An MMO use to be a enviorment simulator which could have its own narrow defined achievents.  It will border on the "gimmie gimmie" purchase method or spend hours working for it.  Have you ever "worked" for something and gained satisfaction from the effort more than just recieving it?

Where do you fall? "Its just a game and I am not living another life for it." or "Why are games today so low on challenge?"  A grind is not a challenge, granted, but its at least better than a simple purchase or short quest reward.

why do that when i can pay someone to do those things in my name. i can buy a college wing for a degree and get an 'honorary one' i can have slaves heave me up a mountain, i can pay some asian lady to raise a child for me, i can donate 20$ to natural disaster funds for me, and i can send a card to my sick neighbor for hope u get well soon.

why do stuff when i can buy my way out of it. isnt this america?!

..as a lifetime subscriber -i can tell you i am pissed. Why oh why did Bethesda give up on this title.

...and why isnt Cryptic reading ant of the press and forums - like these? I have wanted so badly to love this game, i love ST....but this is garbnage. In the last 3 months, I have not seen a SINGLE  positive comment on the game, its future...ANYTHING, period. And I think at this point the only reason the game is surviving is because of that damn C-store, which I refuse to fall into. Genuinely, this game depresses me...and I wish Cryptic cared...even just a tiny bit.....guess its back to Eve....after all, soon we'll have planets and a real galaxy to explore. I cant say enough about how bummed I am....

mmorpg are just trying to placate Cryptic for the resent thread about Eve vs STO.

Psst, LotRO did the same exact thing with their achievement mounts. No one seems to care.

LOTRO now nickles and dimes you for everything in the game, from potions to mounts to emotes to pay to win (perm stat increases).

But nobody really complains about that. No, it's much more trendy to bash Cryptic when they put a ship up in their store that's also available in-game (unlike most of the items in the LOTRO store).

Nice ship. My Science Officer now uses it verses the previous science ship retrofit. However, it was tough to give up the limited time 90% damage resistance buff when fighting the borg with the old retrofit!.

That would be "you". The only things that have been released in the C-store are ships, interiors, and uniforms. What has been released through normal patches are new sectors, missions, and game mechanics(as well as new ships and uniforms).

People still gave a crap about this turd of a game? I am surprised that Cryptic hasn't filed for bankruptcy yet.
