SWG times are over and when TOR starts, SWG will look like a large single player game with no players. If they havent changed anything by now they prolly wont.
Why would people that are still playing SWG just suddenly quit when TOR comes out ? TOR isn't offering 90% of what SWG already has sandbox play, real player housing plus massive customization, city building, full fledged crafting, full fledged space sim combat, non-combat professions, achievement system, collections, storyteller system, Chronicle system (make your own stories and quests), holiday events, starship building and full customization, full fledged character customization, open world PVP, and plenty of other things that TOR will never put in their game cause of their so-great STORY which is already hurting their reputation among the MMO community, I don't see TOR offering anything but their STORY which to me is more restrictive and a hell of a lot less freedom than what SWG offers at this point, no SWG will be around for a while longer.
Open a new server. That wil get me to resub even if I do not like the NGE, I want a brand new server with fresh resource starts for everyone.
That alone would make the game fun. Imagine 4months before we could make certain things if resources don't spawn..insane and awesome!
They did this several years ago when they opened Test Center Prime (TCP). They even gave players FOUR character spots to entice them. Sadly, the server is DEAD! People like you claimed they'd play there, they didn't.

I don't play on test centers. Didn't they also have increased exp as well as a few other non-tc server bonuses if I recall correctly. Why would I play on something they can wipe on a whim if they desire?
Regardless, that was a couple years ago. This is a new year with competition launching in 2011(at least supposed to be launched) and a new server with no transfers would do the game wonders IMO. Your right though, it probably wouldn't last anyways as really it only benefits crafters who want a fresh server to attempt to control the market or players who got in to late in crafting in general and can't compete for some odd reason. Combat players why on earth would they even attempt to transfer? They wouldn't you are 100% correct in that regards.

For the same reasons many people quit other games when a new mmo releases?
SWG didn't offer anything that EQ did, but I dropped EQ like a bad habit once I tried SWG. Also left SWG for another mmo that didn't have anything that SWG did (including the all the problems). Perhaps the big reason is that once The Old Republic releases, SWG will no longer be the only star wars mmo players have to chose from.
I'm not making death predicitions, but TOR will be fresh, most likely highly polished and most importantly it will get regular content additions. On top of that the servers will most likely have good populations.
Lets be honest, when the president of SOE openly talks about the posibility of sunsetting SWG based on what happens when TOR releases it is a very good possibility of becoming a reality. If the game was in a healthy and stable condition he would not make such comments.

I don't blame you. I don't either. They have recently (within the last year) gone to perm double XP on TCP, but aside from that, 4 toons is the only "bonus".
There's VERY little chance they'd EVER "wipe" the server. TCP players may be few, but they're a VERY vocal (and well conected) few. They may roll-back a couple hours, but I wouldn't even think of a full wipe.
New crafters CAN compete, they're just lazy. Resources, like most other things in game, mean less and less with all the buffs and bonuses. TCG items (vehicles, housing, clothing, ships) all bypass crafters too.
And without combat characters on your new server, who will the crafters have to sell to??? RPers? Have you ever met an avid RPer who doesn't have their own Tailor and a sh!t load of crappy resources for clothing?! I haven't.

they are offering perhaps the most important aspect in an mmo, firefly:
Asking for SOE to support their existing, non-EQ franchises (of which they are not the actual creators), is like asking for world peace.
Not only is it not going to happen, but it's likely you will be laughed at. SOE has a long-standing tradition of outright abandoning everything except for EverQuest. Not only do they abandon their games, but they piss all over their customers. Aside from that, they're busy burning up all that precious development money and manpower in making the next two games likely to be abandoned in a comically short time. Well, except for "EverQuest Next", which they will pour all their resources into, and abandon EQ and EQ2 further, in order to do just that.
What a joke, seriously. I feel so dirty for getting a "Station Pass" to 'rekindle the spirit' of nostalgia in past games. What the hell was I thinking, and shame on me. Never again.
Looking at the number of subscribers of a non official SWG board (if you see what i mean) , 130k / 650k posts , there is effectively a last chance for SOE to put back swg on the rails. By opening a pre-cu classic server , more than one in fact , it would be the rush for sure, and after having debugged the old version..
Are you talking about the new CRM Zatosia or the actual forum Mods? The Mods are all volunteers, but they seem to be doing less and less. Zatosia hasn't done a decent job at all IMO. Not sure if she's lazy or busy with other stuff, but she has virtually no presence on the forums.

forum modders i.e. swgmodd05 or swgmodd02, they dont do anything for the forum rules, only if they dont like some answers they delete their posts or lock the threads
fan of SWG, XCOM, Defiance, Global Agenda, Need For Speed, all Star Wars single player games. And waiting the darn STAR CITIZEN

I'm glad you said that because I've been thinking the same thing for several months now. Knowing I'm not the only one who noticed it makes me feel less judgemental.
Put it this way. I'm not a hardcore gamer, very casual and i would in a haert beat be playing SWG again hardcore. Only if they had classic servers, or even CU. I thought the CU was just about getting good when they switched to the NGE.
Damn you SOE, please make some money. Bring our SWG back. It was and still is the best game i have ever played. (Pre CU & CU)

Mark my words: TOR will be much more popular than SWG ever was.
And tons of people care about it... myself included. I'm 30 btw.
QFE.
33 here, and every single person I know that is interested in the game is around my age or older.

It is a terrible thing to say but it is over, there is nothing that can be done. Let it go.
