In his latest entry into the MMORPG.com Staff Blog, Bill Murphy mentions the purchase of a new game and his computer's inability to run it. Bill's been through the tech support - help desk wringer and opines that maybe something needed to happen before the game was placed on store shelves. Check it out!
So why will just this one game not work? Why can't the company's help-desk seem to narrow down any possibilities? What if I was reviewing this game for them? If I was, it would certainly feature quite a bit of initial complaining about the difficulty I had in just getting the game installed and running. And that to me is the worst possible first impression... not even able to get it running despite exceeding the recommended specs.

Does not make a difference if you have played the game or not. If you are having issues with the game you should have mentioned the name. It certainly is quite news worthy when any game fails to launch. Why protect a game that has computer issues? It is almost a given others will have similar problems to what you are experiencing especially when it seems their tech support is not helpful.
Just think, you might save someone from wasting their hard earned dollars. I know in the state the economy is in, I am very careful how I spend my money these days.
BTW great cartoon!
The guy's response in the cartoon definitely epitomises most management, these days; especially in development companies. They really just do not understand even the simplest of technological issues and, in most cases, don't care to learn (which is the biggest problem, in my opinion). Heck, the majority that I have the consistent misfortune of having to deal with think that being able to modify numbers in an Excel spreadsheet makes them "high tech and developer-savvy." Ugh!
Of course, MMO gamers are more than accustomed to the people in charge of developers' money not having a blazing clue about how things actually work. Aren't we? :P
As for the game name, I agree whole-heartedly with Ozmodan: name 'em! So that other people know they have to be wary of wasting their money - especially since a lot of stores refuse to accept PC game returns, these days.
User error?
Just because this game does not work on his system, it doesn't mean there is something wrong with the game. Perhaps he could reinstall his operating system. Perhaps his drivers from his video card company don't support that game.
Perhaps other people aren't actually having the issues the writer is having? Maybe he is 1/1,000,000? Maybe the game isn't "hanging" for everyone? Maybe the writer just got frustrated like we all do when this happens? But maybe, in the end, he is actually doing something wrong?
Or maybe it's the game. I guess we'll never know. Although you do have to wonder how many people this game is playing fine for. You also have to wonder about whether the help system worked for almost everyone except him.
Atlantica is one I used to play from time to time and now I can't. Trying all that was posted and still nothing. Uninstall became the solution since nothing else worked.
