One of the things I think that makes WoW so successful is it does'nt need a beast of a machine to play . I see no problems here . When released i had a machine that struggled a bit in the citys . It was by no means a gaming pc even back then . So I guess mmos should be retro graphically to be successful . KOTOR i guess needs to be a circa 2007 game to have a chance of being a contender upon release . Not that I m against graphic intensive games but untill the next gen consoles come out with thier 3d graphics and will be most likly mmo friendly (Supplied with a keyboard etc ) . We will always be a little retro in mmos .

well the 9500 is a pretty outdated card and was hardly any good to begin with.

Yeah I have I ment when the original game was released and not the patch. I'm on a different PC now which weirdly has pretty much the exact same specs as yours but with 3 mb ram . The games playing very smoothly on wow at highest graphic settings . It also plays lotro well on high settings and Age of Conan on medium . Maybe try and msconfig in run and then turn off start up menu programs to turn off unwanted programs running in the background . Then run online sygate scan . Failing that try a reinstall of windows . I'm pretty much sure you ve already run spyware and adware programs  not to mention your own antivirus . Hope that helps :)

That is not a 'normal' card. To most people, that falls into the near cutting edge category.

I agree. I build the machines for my wife and I using tech that is about 2 years old. Currently, I can build a machine that can pretty much run anything, and look good doing it, for about $350. That includes: MoBo, Processor, 4GB RAM, Graphics Card and PSU.

Using 2 year old tech saves you about 60% on the cost of the items than if you had bought them when they first released, and it all still does the job. If I could afford it, I would buy more expensive hardware, but I can't....so I won't. :)

Heres something that might interest the techys,

latest beta build is running 87fps with highest Settings

    Kubuntu 10.10 - ATI_HD5770 -2.4x4ghz

Windows guys should be fine with modest hardware.

Are you using a windows emulator to get WoW to run on Linux? What's that command? Apt-Get install Awesomesauce? image

I'm just saying that the "5" cards and below are stripped down versions of the gaming cards NVidia issues (a 8800 for example is a better card than a 9500 for example). No other MMO of today runs as good as wow on these kinds of cards and Blizzard implemented some new and more demanding graphic-features to Cata. So it is to be expected that the game now runs less good on lower-end cards but 40 fps is still very much playable. If' you'd buy a 260 GTX for example you could play on ultra with 60 fps and that's hardly a "high-end" card.

Well I am already having problems with the game and my computer so this will mean a big upgrade for me which means I won't be playing. My hubby, son and myself all play and we can't afford to upgrade all three. Hubby is disabled so his will be first since that is his intertainment.

Like playing EQ every major patch you had to upgrade you graphic card until finally your comp. Guess WoW is going to be that way now.

I'm curious to what parts you're specifically using to get that price. I build my own systems and still end up paying around $700-800 for an above-the-mark system using older parts... however, I do include a lot more than you have listed... OS, HDDs, Optical Drives, Case Fans, Case, Keyboard/Mouse, Monitor, Network Card, etc.

Well, if I were buying all of that additional hardware, it would be right around the price you came up with...if not a bit more. 800 is a great price for all of that. :)

I tend to recycle as much as I can when building a new system...like the monitor, hard drives, case, case fans, I use the on board sound and NIC cards and keep the hard drive from my old system (I replace the HD once every 4 years whether it needs it or not, however).

the problem with WoW is that even on the highest setting with everything turned to max it still looks like crap. Blizz it's time to come out with a new mmo.

Uh oh... Looks like wow players will have to ditch that twenty year old single slot toaster I'n place of one of those early 2000 model bagel toasters to play wow on...

    Playing: Rift, LotRO
    Waiting on: GW2, BP

Max graphics still look the same as old WoW, minus the new water really, and little more color to spells.

Lotro still wins for best graphics, on the most machines. DX10 shadows, and DX11 oculazation.

Very true... A lot of people seem to forget that the GTX460 is only the 4th DX11 card produced by nVidia, while in price it's even cheaper than a GTX285 (and a hell of a lot faster)...

    [EDIT]

...oh, I have one as well ;-)

The reason the max fps you get on any card is the fact that ingame If you have vertical sync check. Unless your moniter goes above 60 mhz then the most fps you will get is 60. If you un-check the vertical sync in game you fps will go to what your card can handle. Right now i am running at or around 120 fps. Try this out and see what you get!

This guys funny. So they should create a new game with new graphics engine like AoC or something like that so 80% of the people cant play it without buying a new machine. And if U dont like WOW why U on here commenting? I have played other MMO's with better graphics and got bored with the content and the idiots in the game after a month or 2.   Not to mention the OVER 12 million people who play WoW. we should all QUIT cause Jakdstripper said it sux!!!
