Greetings all i'm new to the mmorpg group and i'd like to ask you all a question.
I'm looking into 2 Games To pick from
Final Fantasy 11
Everquest 2
Both i have played for at least 14 days and have caught the jist of them both
I'm stuck at deciding which one i want to play for the next year or 2.
That's where you come in.
I will not SOlely base my desicion off of this, but id like some insights from you all about these 2 games
past experiences , current experinces, insights , reviews,
What do you guys think i should pick,
And don't suggest a nother game because i've played a lot and im just sticking with these 2 but i'm not making a decision til after guild wars comes out but i'd still like to have one just in case i dont like guild wars
I'm playing Star wars galaxies right now so i might be going back to that also if i like the CU.

I was never able to reach their customer service from within the interface of the extremely long install, so I assume their CS would never have help me when I would have explain them I register 1 year ago, use the CD key, but when it come to launch, computer cant load the game past the character creation...
So basically I pay for the game and never was able to play it, their customer service could be hiding or not answering, it would be the same, I was not able to reach it easily, and I just discard the whole thing.
So from my personnal experience, I would say anything is better then FF 11! If it cant work easily when you buy it, then CS must be easy to reach. CS is NOT easy to reach, I didnt find a email that got any reply ever, and I got bored after 1 or 2 email.
With SoE, they may have take 2 days to answer(which is incredibly long), but at least, not only do they answer, but they find the problem and make the game work easily...
As far as I am concern, even Blizzard have better CS then Square, and that is definitely not a nice thing to say.
I have no idea on FF 11 itself beyond the character creation, so I wont say anything.
EQ2 is a decent game, if you like the guild oriented way of thinking. If you value individuality, then EQ2 is not for you, but neither would be FF 11.

Well, CS is not what i'm trying to pick a game for, I can handle problems on my own I'm looking for a game where the quests are adventurous and extremely fun. i love to roleplay and i love to go out and fight.

With guild wars, I dont know, The Free monthly fee is killer but
I dont like PvP That much unless it's with a friend or something.

Vintageonne, from your previous posts, it sounds like you have already decided to play EQII and are just looking for assurance. If you like questing and roleplaying then of course, EQII is the game you should play. I have not played FFII because I don't really care for those types of games. I played EQ for over 5 years and now I play EQII and have not tired of it yet.

It's just me, so open the door.
Out of those 3 I guess I would wait for Guild Wars and get that. It has a lot going for it, now I havn't played EQII but as for FFXI, it is a decent MMORPG, in my opinion nothing hugely special, but it is somewhat solid. I still would wait for GW though... just my opinion...

I played FFXI for 2 years without a single problem.
FFXI
Gripes
POL...I hate how blasted long it takes to log in and out.
The game tends to lend itself to certain jobs get a group far easier then others
Environment graphics are a bit dated, as a result of being compatiable with the PS2.
Likes,
Gameplay was just damn fun
Character models are infintially better done then EQ2 concerning, softness, animation, emotion and movement.
The AH system in ffxi blows away any other mmog econ i have ever seen. the AH in wow is a shitty spinoff in comparison. the amount of detail you can get out of the ah is incredible.
Decently easy to casual play, you can accomplish something in a few hours. Though if your going to exp grind you might want to dedicate some time.
Crafting System Rocks, I have seen better yes..but the system just works really darn well.
Neutral
The game gets a bit grindy, but the last series of levels cap out and you get a flat necessary exp..this is both good and bad.
there is some limited pvp, you choose if you do or do not want to participate and the rewards are pretty damn nice as its setup in a conquest setup.
Quest system is honestly no different then any other mmo, including wow and EQ2, although I would say the lore in ffxi is a bit better, but only if your a long time ff fan will you truly grasp all of it.
EQ2
Dislikes
Balance is still in an uproar, I mean damn after 5+ years of EQ they are still going to extreems on class balance.
Character models are too plastic and fake.
The level curve 40+ honestly gets pretty lame..they state the level cap is going to be 200, Ill say it like this..if that is the case, and it took as long as it did to get a level, they have two choices..either adjust the level curve everytime they add levels, which of course will piss off all of us that had to grind through an insane grind. or Keep it the same...and piss off all the casuals. Its honestly lose lose imo.
Very Very Stiff hardware requirements, unless you have a top notch machine do no bother. Reason why? simple keeping everything turned off will end up killing the game for you.

The world is simply stunning once you get out of the newbie areas. Those who complain have never experienced areas like Lavastorm, Solusek's Eye and the like, and or their video card sucks and they never will till they upgrade.
Good amount of raid content this early in the game, honestly i am impressed with it. Now if they would just quit dicking around with it, all would be great.
Crafting system is decent..I think I lean to liking the one in ffxi more, and UO the best. But at least its not as painful as it was in EQ.
Not as strict on grouping..outside a few obvious things like a healer and tank..most classes can get grouped easily..
Nuetral
Alot of solo content being added. I do not solo in a game like this so honestly this is irrelevant to me.
Quest system..decent..decent lore..but again no different then any other mmo
Casual play..Im not a casual player but I do not see this as a casual game at all. I honestly do not get the impression you can log in for a few hours and accomplish anything.
Selling/econ, I do not really like it how its done but i cannot say I hate it. I think it feels like it was an afterthought which is a shame and it takes away from those of us who like to play the econ as part of the game.
I hate both FFXI and EQ2. Neither game has enough solo content, and I hate waiting for groups to form all the time. It's just a waste of time.
Try AC2, it's more balanced between solo and group content, and the expansion comes out on May 4. Right now you can try the AC2 free trial.
I didn't enjoy EQ or FF id wait for guild wars if i was ya...
I enjoy the quest system in eq2 its a lot better than swg and i cant seem to find a lot of quest to do in ffxi plus i hate the lvling thing in ffxi you have to group in order to lvl up... eq 2 seems like the right coice so far.

I agree with Falcon about AC2, especially with the expansion coming out next wednesday, but between those two games, I'd be forced to choose EQ2, and I prettymuch DESPISE EQ2, if only because it seems to have more of a future. When I played FFXI, I found that it was pretty much static. Patches few and far between, and they didn't really do much of anything. EQ2 is changing in new and interesting ways each and every patch.
