Stats for what you hunt

Hey,

LFG Fantasy/historic game. Very specific requirements. I am not sure of the name of this 'style' of game, but its certainly a dying breed. I'm bored of the clone MMOs, not fussed about graphics, 2D/3D, and am open to all suggestions along these guidelines:

Looking for a game that doesn't have:

- Skill Tree

- Class Types (e.g. rogue, barbarian, priest)

- Pre-defined stat increases dependant on your class and/or level

and a game that does have:

- Stat increases for the monster you hunt (can depend on the damage and difficulty of the monster you hunt) which increase in incruments throughout your level.

AND

- Stat increases dependant on the weapon you use, e.g. Strength is gained through use of melee weapons, dexterity through bows, intellegence/wisdom through magc etc)

- Skill increases through continual use (or 'proficiency') of weapons

- Freedom to mix/create 'class' types as you feel fit

Thanks for the help.

Asheron's Call. You have almost complete control over what skills you choose, which one you specialize in, and how you improve them. You used to be able to hamstring your avatar if you didn't choose wisely at character creation. They've modified that. It's still possible but you can now work your way out of it.

If you want to go the F2P route, there is Mabinogi. Your stats increase as you use your skills. Also there is a unique combat system that relies more on strategy than what level you are, even though level does help quite a bit.

FFXIV (even though it is pretty boring right now) or a gem of a game I just found which I am shocked is not talked about more around here - MegaTen (think Mabinogi, but sci-fi).

EDIT: Another one I am thinking about trying is Planet Calypso.

Just do a Google search on 'MegaTen First Look' and 'Planet Calypso First Look' to watch game play videos.
