Coming in DF2010 - Overview

kazamxkazamx Member UncommonPosts: 166

****If I missed any please let me know****

Some people are complaining that this expansion took 10 months and is small. My understanding is that since the last expansion AV have had 2 teams working on this expansion and on DF2010 with this expansion being much smaller.

I thought it may be useful to have a look at some of the stuff we know is coming in DF2010

Prestige Classes - This should 'fix' the whole everyone is a hybrid problem.

New Character Models - We have already seen renders of these

DX11 Support

Total overhaul of the UI - About time too

Chat Window Improved - Should make the world less silent (Lord Zeb)

Updated Graphics to Armour/Weapons - Not only are the items getting an upgrade but now a Dwarf made item will still look like a Dwarf item even on other races.

Thousands of new Items - Double the number of items in game

Upgraded Animations - This is really needed

Improved Environmental Sounds - At long last waterfalls will make a sound and the world will feel more alive

New villages and housing slots

A type of cloak or tabard to represent clans / alliances - It will be nice to tell friend from foe a little easier on the battlefield

New Spells - I hope they also refine the ones we have.

Existing Spells Tweaked - All spells will be made useful (Lord Zeb)

New additions to archery in connection to the prestige classes - Anything that makes it more interesting is good

More weapon types and ammunition types for archers - Oh baby, give crossbow

Alignment Changes - Not massive changes though (Lord Zeb)

New political map

Clan tools

Tiered clan bank

Sliding corpse bug replaced with something 'cool'

POSSIBLE - Waves added to the Sea - This looked cool in beta

POSSIBLE - Player vendors in player cities/hamlets - Something for the economy

POSSIBLE - Clan vendors in NPC cities - Maybe tied to Village control (Lord Zeb)

POSSIBLE - Armour Dyes - Should be nice

POSSIBLE - More Racial abilities

This is actually not in DF2010, it's supposed to come out in the next patch. AV said it would come in a patch immediantly after this expansion(would assume in the next few weeks).

I didn't know that. For now I will leave it as part of DF2010 as I wouldn't be shocked to see it get delayed and rolled into the expansion

For those of us not closely following DF, can you elaborate on what this will include/do?

New Character Models - We have already seen renders of these

This along with updated animations is exciting; I didn't mind the models and animations when I played, but I always wished they'd been a bit better.

    DX11 Support

Total overhaul of the UI - About time too

Very cool.  Would love to see some preview shots of this if they're available.

Chat Window Improved - Should make the world less silent (Lord Zeb)

Updated Graphics to Armour/Weapons - Not only are the items getting an upgrade but now a Dwarf made item will still look like a Dwarf item even on other races.

Very neat feature here, too.  I suppose that with the new player models and animations, this sort of became a requirement, but the added feature of "Dwarf made item will still look like a Dwarf item on [everyone else]" is pretty sweet.

Thousands of new Items - Double the number of items in game

    More sweetness.

Upgraded Animations - This is really needed

Improved Environmental Sounds - At long last waterfalls will make a sound and the world will feel more alive

I never had gripes here, but I won't complain about updates to the sound.

    New villages and housing slots

A type of cloak or tabard to represent clans / alliances - It will be nice to tell friend from foe a little easier on the battlefield

With all the FF in this game, certainly a welcomed addition.

New Spells - I hope they also refine the ones we have.

Existing Spells Tweaked - All spells will be made useful (Lord Zeb)

New additions to archery in connection to the prestige classes - Anything that makes it more interesting is good

Honestly, this entire list looks extremely promising.  I'd really love to see an estimated date for this to be released.  I think that this, in combination with the recent xpac would almost be enough to have me re-sub to give it a try.  I still wish they'd do a winback offer, but for $15 this almost looks worthwhile.  Would love some explanation/elaboration on some of the points, though, if anyone has more info.

    Thanks for the OP, though!

We don't really have any details on exactly what a prestige class will bring.

We do know that choosing one wont tie you to that forever. I imagine it will work like the specialisations currently in game. You go to a vendor/quest giver and either buy the class or do a questline to get it.

We know it will involve having new abilities opening up. Changes to existing abilities and maybe having some abilities removed. At a guess I believe becoming a fire mage will increase your fire damage, give you better fire resists, make you vunerable to water and open up a bunch of cool fire related skills. But we don't know for sure.

I feel darkfall is a game where the only thing that matters is what they actually implement. The devs talk alot about what they want to do but sometimes it takes forever or never happens.

I wouldn't base any decision about darkfall based on whats to come because even if it's comeing it might take years.

have there been any more updates?

Prestige class is suppose to be a choice to benefit ONE type of role in game.  I think the example they used was the ability to choose a prestige class to benifit magic, buy giving it a small boost and making it so your spells dont fizzel.

All it is suppose to do is allow you a small benefit in one role.  This is suppose to be a counter to everyones a hybrid, with the prestige classes people will now be slightly better in one role.

Its not suppoe to be a game changer, but add variety in what everyones characters capabilites are.

    To all:

The OP has no idea what he is talking about.  This is HIS wish list.  At this time we cannot even be sure that "darkfall 2010" is an actual "expansion."  I have always veiwed thisn as the vision for the year which implies no promises.

Remember, until it is in the game it is all speculation.

I have put the list together from information given out by the Devs. Sure the devs might change their minds but this is NOT my wish list.

It all sounds great in theory but no feature ever looks, feels or plays as good as it sounds when implemented,in MMOs in  general and in Darkfall in particular.

    We'll see.

I will resub when the 2010 expansion hits, but if they don't address (imo) the most important thing and the bread and butter of all MMOs especially the PVP oriented ones, which is Noob friendlyness and progression grind, in will probably be money wasted on my part but I will drop 15 bucks to check things out never-the-less.

AV should hurry the fck up and release that huge expansion before some of the new PVP MMOs release next year.

I care about your gaming 'problems' and teenage anxieties, just not today.

No you are taking montths of sttemetns they say they are workign on and implying that this will be given in a single patch.  They never said this.  Then you are selectively reading into stateemetns such as:

    "Total overhaul of the UI"

To mean the UI will functionally change.  Syncain has told us it won't.

You are workign very hard at jumping to conclusions.  Hyping stuff that likely won't makle it in by the end of the year (like motion capture animations) only casues players to be dissappointed.

  • kazamxkazamx Member UncommonPosts: 166

There seems to be a lot being done for noobs.

They introduced noob protection a fter patches ago so new players have some time to get the hang of things before the PvP kicks off.

They introduced noob dungeons inside of starter cities right beside the bank so new players can fight mobs in a 'little' more safety.

They have changed the default view to 3rd person to make things feel a little less 'different' from a normal MMO

    In the next expansion they have talked about totally remaking the UI. As the UI is very different new players find it a big turn off. They need to find a way of making it easier for noobs to start with but not losing functionality.;

The chat will also be redone to making communication with people near you easier.

Prestige classes 'should' massively reduce the grind. Just now to be even in PvP you need to have high magic (multiple schools) high archery AND high melee. With prestige classes you should only need to raise one area to a decent level and then specialise in it. It really doesn't take long to max out fire magic if you want to be a fire mage.

All in all, its getting much better to be a noobie!

I went through all the old posts I could find and dug out things they said directly related to DF2010 or things they expected before DF2010 (such as the sounds) for example

    8) Do you plan on putting a type of cloak or tabard to represent clans / alliances? - ogre SKG, NAVY SEALS

This is very high on our internal wish list and we hope to have something like this for DF2010

    http://www.mmorpg.com/blogs/Paragus1/082010/6540_Darkfall-Community-QA-with-Aventurine-2

For things they didn't seem so sure about I put them at the bottom of the list with a POSSIBLE warning

    25) Will you change the texture of the sea to make it more beautiful, maybe with waves if possible? - Deimos Shadowblade

Possibly, for Darkfall 2010. We used to have waves as old timers will remember from a pre-beta video released early on after a clan leader visit to our studios. There were issues at the time which forced us to take them out but we’d like to give it another look.

While I agree that the devs are headed int he right direction, we have no idea what prestige classes entail.  We have not been told the intent and nothing about the implementation.  While I hope you are correct assuming this is so is jumping to comclusions.

This past expansion was a joke. Its more often called a patch than an expansion. The textures they implemented are great. The totally revamped dungeons are complete bs. Unless you live near one then you are not going there on a frequent basis. Why would you when some of the dungeons that were completely overhauled are the same layout with different npc's. Dungeons are still just instanced areas with the same npcs you find out in the world.

The changes to npc's was great for newer players because it provides a larger number of spawns for them. While some of the previously farmed spawns have  been made much more difficult without an increased reward. The ice dragon was a good addition to the game as well as the Garra Dar (Spelling?)

Treasure maps were something I was really excited about, but they are dropped so rarely that 90% of the players in my alliance have yet to get a map. Such a great idea being wasted. Why are small maps not dropped more often? This would promote groups to travel and thus increasing world pvp.

I will continue to play the game until the expansion, but if it is not the complete game changer it is being hyped up as being then I will call it quits.

The expansion was good for a variety of reasons, not all are now apparent.  The biggest point with the new terrain system is that there are now automated tools to allow them to update terrian in the future.  This is a huge benefite for future patches/expansions (or wahtever you wish to call them).

The mob spawns and drops were rebalanced.  This is a good thing.  They were nto made "much more difficult."  they simply changed.  There are more spawns which are suitable for groups, and a wider variation for different skill levels.  This may mean that the sapwns you were used to farming may have 1 or 2 tougher mobs in them.  These tougher mobs also drop better loot (such as r50 pole arms).

Not every dungeon recieved a makeover, however many of them did.  This is also good.

Treasure maps drop quite often from certain mobs.  learn to farm them.

For the next exapnsion we have no idea what will be in it.  It is not Av who is over hyping it, it is certain members of the community.  The reality is that even Av does not have a plan for the next expac (yet).  This is what they said they are working to plan this week.  Until that planning is done every thing is 100% speculation.

I am a fan of Darkfall but there are a few things I take issue with. One of them is AV seemingly constant expenditure on updating graphics. The world is actually really nice as it is I wish the would focus on other things like maybe master tailoring? maybe more places to explore? actually more dungeons?

Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

The key item to take away from the expansion is not the new graphics, but the new terrain "system."  Previously the world designers needed to manually edit the grphcis files which altered the terrain.  This  is a tedious process..  With the new terrain system they have added WYSIWYG tools that allow them to quickly update the terrain.  This will allow them to add new dungeons andd content at a much faster pace.  This new sysetm likley required them to update much of the existing items to be compatible with the  new tools.

    In short:

If they had focused on providing new content only (dungeons, etc) then the pace of additon would be very slow.  By adding the new "terrain system" they can now add content at a significantly faster pace.

well although i didnt say it in my post the reference to my comment is related to the things coming down the pipeline.

I dont care about new character models, mob models, armor models etc and they do seem to focus a great deal of time on that.

hye did say that.  he also said "They won't hcange the functionality of the game, only how you interact with the UI."  This is in direct repsonse to "will you still need to right click to interact with the stuff in the game?"

it sounds as if most of the improvement will be performance related sinc ethe current UI is a significant source of lag.

why do people keep pointing that out.

YES we know that. but people cost money. I am saying do not spend as much money on graphics and more money on other things please. When people say 'resources' that is what they mean, hire less art more developers.
