I'm planning on returning to DAOC , I had a few questions for those still playing though.
How viable is the FAQ on this board? Is it still pretty accurate concerning TOA and Catacombs content?
Can you buy the expansions (I have up to TOA) via Digital Distribution networks? (The FAQ's seemed to talk about buying boxed versions)
How many servers are there now? How were server transfers handled? I had level 50's spread across servers on different realms. (When we were allowed to make /level 30's on some servers for a short time, I went and made level 30's of almost every class in the game and leveled a fair amount of them to 50.)
Most of my lv50 toons are just RR1-3 ML1-3 but I I do have a Hunter and Runemaster on Igraine that are fairly well leveled up, and both had tradeskills I was working on (fletcher 800, tailor was like 500ish)
Think my hunter is ML6 - RR8L? and my RM is ML3 RR4L?
Would it take long for me to get into good fighting shape?
Are sub-classes hard to get/level?
How are the RM and Hunter in PVP now? How are they in PVE-solo and group?
Thanks for your help....

I just returned myself so let me try and answer some for you:
Can you buy the expansions (I have up to TOA) via Digital Distribution networks? (The FAQ's seemed to talk about buying boxed versions): All are free now.. game and all expansions
How many servers are there now? How were server transfers handled? I had level 50's spread across servers on different realms. (When we were allowed to make /level 30's on some servers for a short time, I went and made level 30's of almost every class in the game and leveled a fair amount of them to 50.): There is one server. It has 10 parts. Ywain 1-10. This is to allow extra housing. (Technically there are still some more including Euro ones but they are all being transferred to Ywain). There is a transfer FAQ. Any character other than one on Mordred or Andred can just be transferred over. There is a quick (talk to the NPC twice) quest if you have a level 50 on a classic server that grants you tokens for MasterLevels 1-5. Population is great. 3000 regularly on (counting Buffbots). The Frontier RvR is always action packed with towers, keeps and relics changing nightly.

How are the RM and Hunter in PVP now? How are they in PVE-solo and group? Hunter will likely travel in a stealth group for PvP. RM seems to be fine. PvE.. well.. PvE is pretty simple now for everything.

Wow... allow me a minute to digest that part about tokens to get you ML 1 - 5... I'm just thinking back to all the things one had to go through back in the day to get those things. wow That only works for the 50's you had on a classic server?
On a scale of 1 - 10, how hard would it be to get ML's on non-classic server 50s for someone just returning to the game i.e. no guild, no friends list etc..
How are RvR PUGs these days? Terrible and frustrating? Generally skilled? Hard to find?
SoW and Invis please!
Yes.. the tokens can only be obtained on level 50s on a classic server before transfer.
MLs seem to be fairly easy to get. They instituted vendors that will allow you to trade Glass (farmed via PvE) or Bounty Points (farmed in PvP). You can run the easier ML encounters yoruself or with a small group and then farm points to buy credit for the really hard ones. I returned with a small group of friends and we are progressing well through the MLs.
RvR seems to be the best improvement. In the Thid and Molvik BGs its very busy and getting a group on any real doesn't seem to be a problem. Big Boy RvR is plentiful with keeps and relics changing hands on a constant basis. The frontiers will normally have a Battlegroup running that you can join to get info and find groups.

All expansions are merged into daoc, it is one game now, and you only have to download one gamefolder.
Now ML levels can be purchased from boutypoints.
Artifacts can be purchased from bountypoints.
All artifacts level in rvr.
Champion levels are gained from rvr.
... So, lots of RVR, in the beginning you will have lots of stuff to look forward to when your RVR'ing, if your not getting a Realm rank your getting a ML og Champ lvl or artifact level
not all that sucky pve stuff anymore, thank god.
I've been debating returning myself I played the 14 free days I had on my old account but im still not sure I never had a lvl 50 once highest I got was 40 (back in the day) and 41 back with the 3 cluster servers. I'm not sure if someone just starting (such as myself) would have a difficult time getting into RvR with the ability to not be romped on.
You should have no problem finding the zerg and joining them. Another player can (mostly) only help.
Regarding ML raids, they are still going on, just keep an eye on the chat log and you will see raids announced from time to time.
Level 40 and 41 is a little low for "big boy RvR" and you will get wiped on a regular basis, unless you join a battle group and be careful not to get into the middle of a caster frag fest, especially at a keep, or sometimes a tower.
Make sure your gear gives you near maximum resists.
It is best if you spend some time in Molvik, a level 35 to 39 battleground. That will give you 2L9 [RR 3L0 if you stay until you max out RR for that battleground, and it is a lot of fun when in a group].
Leveling up is much faster than the old DAoC, gold is easier to get, and dropped gear is much better in many areas. It is a good idea to start crafting, at least "tinkering" because that will bring up your base skills so that you can at least salvage items dropped in the field [that yields about 5 times as much gold as simply selling drops], and if you craft in what ever the drops are, armor or weapons, for example, you will get 2x the gold that simply tinkering will.
Also, I think you need something like 600 or 640 woodworking to repair doors in New Frontiers [RvR]. Base skills are very inexpensive to level up. If you do not make trinkets out of dropped items, you get almost !00% of your money back after making a tinkered item.
Master levels are important, Champion levels can help, but most important is Realm Rank. Good gear is needed, but it does not have to be the best gear, as you need in World of Warcraft if you want to play with the guilds that look down upon other players with lesser gear.
