    DMIS/CMIS ?

Maybe....sounds kind of right. It seems like that wasgeneric CMM language though, and Fanamation had their own version. It has been nearly 13 yrs now.

Used a laser for calibrations, and used to have to modify my cal program for particular system dimensions. The Z axis was a beotch to align.  They used air bearings, and brushless motors IIRC. I was only one in USA working on them from our company at the time(we had 3 guys in canadien office that did). So any Fan job we had, I was the one traveling....cals kept me away usually 3-4 days at a time. That was provided there was no real problems. I used to read programming guides for that language while the cal program would run....yes it was boring.

I worked for a place out of Fenton Michigan that took over Fanamations contracts for service when they went out of business. After about 6 months working there, my Crohns Disease got real bad  from all the hrs working/traveling, and I ended up perforating my intestine from the inflamation. Almost died.

Was in bad shape for a month, and when they finally  cut me open, the abcess was the size of a grapefruit.....Doc said he didnt understand how I could keep working that long. Wish I had never taken that job :(

So yeah....that seems right. Been taking pain pills now daily for just over 4 yrs, and mind not very sharp these days. Sometimes things trigger memories, like this thread on DOS.

Anyways I need to crash. Sorry for blabbling, but I miss my tech/college days badly at times.

    Thanks EWO.

Yeah this yr made 28 yrs with it. It added to my disability, but  some of it falls on taking prednisone 27 of the last 28 yrs.  Muscles/joints/bones ache a lot besides any tummy problems I get.

Ok just got up, and have a Doc appt today.

    Thanks for replys to posts.

Let's see. DOS is quick, efficient, consistent and easy to use.

    FF XIV is.................................none of those.

FF XIV is more like the first release of Windows by Microsoft. Gaudy, clunky, not very efficient and prone to making you want to throw your monitor through the wall.

  • Not a good analogy, IMO.  Command line interfaces have a use, especially Unix/linux.  You can do powerful scripting in them.  SQL is not even a CLI.  Its a full blown languages.  Doing complex joins in SQL has no real decent GUI because there is no decent way to do so.

From what I can tell  FFXIV is just kind of unprofessional and therefore inaccessible.  Things not thought through, features perhaps forgotten.  Placeholders left in.

In another thread someone was mentioning certain towers left in and a fanboy was making the excuse that it was nice the developers had such foresight.

No, leaving in placeholders is just unprofessional.  You make them for yourself.  I do it when I code.  Artists do it when they make things.  But in all cases for ANYTHING you present to someone else you TAKE THEM OUT.  Not doing so is unprofessional.

You are doing CLIs a disservice with the comparison, IMO.  Unix and Linux have GUIs you can use for them.  But for some tasks GUIs are actually worse and slower than CLIs.  This is not true for FFIV.

You do realize that MAC uses a bash shell? It's what linux should be if it ever wanted to gain any kind of mainstream.

Most of you sound like old fat geeks... and no, that wasn't a compliment.

Er...you can get to a CLI with Windows to.  And your point is completely irrelevant to the analogy being provided.  To your last point, I'm curious under what circumstances would you consider "...old fat geeks..." to be a compliment?

As far as analogies go, I think a more apt analogy is the FFXIV is like a website designed for Mosaic (one of the first graphical browsers from the 90s for those that don't know).  Sure it works, but only an idiot would argue that a site designed with the first version of HTML in mind is remotely equal to a modern web site.

More importantly, I can and will start posting Facebook links to my page and you'll notice a stupidly large amount of Asian females (mostly HK, some Taiwanese, and some Korean) on my list and a bunch of pictures of me either topless or performing (singing) w/ some lighting effects that look photoshopped. I'm never afraid online to start balantly boasting about how I wrecked and destroyed the stereotypical nerd image. When I was 18 I realized the horrible image that nerds had; and while it was true to most nerds, there was the occasional nerd such as myself that works out 6 times a week and socializes enough but simply has a fanscination with electronics, specifically computers and gaming.

Now that gaming has become more mainstream, the gamers aren't being bashed on anymore, it's the people making the games and coding.

Now, without further bullshit from me

    White/blonde hair.

And this, is what happens when females love you too much:

They jizz on you with whipped cream.

Now too bad my girl deleted the pics of me topless and ripped (the picture w/ me shirt open is old, those "abs" suck compared to current ones).

I'm probably a textbook narcissist but who cares =D

I live to go faster...or die trying.

DOS games were fun, those were the days.  Personally, I got my start in gaming on the Commodore 64.

     Ha, you old bastard!

Oh the long nights of coding a commodore 64 to play a glorified version of minefield.

I got started on a texas instruments TI-49A.

I was jealous of my cousin though, he had the 64.  I was jealous because his cursor could move all over the screen and mine couldn't.

Dos is rather complex but it is also fast (not to write but to do what you told it) and does what you tell it to do, unlike FF XIV.

According to everything i've read and all the reviews of FFXIV you should not be slandering DOS by associating it with said game.

Maybe you meant DoS.. Denial of Service :)

A "denial-of-service" attack is characterized by an explicit attempt by attackers to prevent legitimate users of a service from using that service.

    That looks about right.

I dont know what you have experienced from the game.

I enjoy it while graphics are top quality.

Some games need real rigs to run and and not trash rigs just like wow.

If you dont like it go play with your milk company brainwasher blihazzard and pay them for showing you what their are up to at blizzcon while other companies showing their staff at e3 and gamescom  with no cost at all.

So  yeah if you like beeing stolen pay blizzard.I dont spent a cent for them.

I would support ubisoft for creating the best ip ever "Assasins Creed".These guys know exaclty what to do from music to graphics to gameplay to story to ending to everything.

If ubisoft ever decides to release an mmo then you will see some real game and not junk food.

Why hasn't Minecraft sunk this game yet?

At first it appears there's not a lot to do. There's some crafting and some combat, but you know you can actually have fun and discover things while playing it.

Dang dude. I've got the exact same thing. Had to drop out of college 3 times because of the severity, just finally finished last semester. Good luck with it!

College is the worst thing for stress induced disease IMO.

I have an Associates Degree, almost completed a Bachelor Degree, and like you, I also had like 3 or 4 semesters I dropped my classes(about 40 cr hrs worth). Had I finished those, along with the 120-ish I did complete, that would of been a bit of alright.

I hope you do better with it than I did. I had/have very active disease, and had to take steroids besides for it all this time. 20 yrs worth got me on disability(just hit 28 yrs total).

Best of luck to ya....the world is a rough enough place without an anchor dragging ya down.

PS....Get rid of that pic....it turns my stomach :P

The C64 was my second system after the atari. Pitfall and Karateka were more fun than this.

Romantic: FFXIV is like marriage; the hero dies in the first chapter.

Alcohol: FFXIV is like a fine wine in that it gets better with age. Lock it in the cellar for a few years.

Blonde: FFXIV is like a dumb blonde; it's better to have beauty than brains because the average gamer can see better than he can think.

Brunette: FFXIV is like a brunette; you can tell she's lonely if she has a pulse.

Immature your mom joke: FFXIV is like your mom; the first month is free, but nobody goes back once you have to start paying.

Responsibility: FFXIV is like being the designated driver. The odds of actually enjoying yourself are so low that you're better off staying home.

Childhood: FFXIV is like a baby; it has a mouth with an enormous appetite at one end, and a glaring lack of responsibility at the other.

Exes: FFXIV is like your ex. You hate yourself, but you keep going back because it's all you have until something better comes along.

    Alcohol, Sports, and Responsibility ftw!

But when they started using floppy 5-1/2...that was the real deal lol.
