Global Agenda: Tribes MMO In the Making

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Global Agenda developer, Hi-Rez Studios, has announced that it is now the proud owner of the Tribes Universe franchise after completing a purchase of the IP from GarageGames. Hi-Rez has two teams working: One to continue development of Global Agenda and one to begin working on Tribes Universe. Alpha testing of Tribes Universe is slated to begin in early 2011 and GA players of level 50 will have priority for inclusion.

I’m sure many of you have questions, so here are a few quick highlights for Tribes Universe:

* Three Tribes (factions)

* Full clan (agency) support

* First person view (third person for some vehicles)

* Full vehicle support (ground and air)

* Full persistent world with territory control (no instances)

* PvP focused

* Huge outdoor maps (about 10x the area of sonoran desert)

* Large scale fights (100+ players)

* Jetpacks, skiing, lots of weapons, etc

Read more here.

Thanks to both Mykell and Piasek for the tip.

    That means sign up and buy a booster(doubles your XP) for Global Agenda. Get level 50 and get to play both Alpha and Beta.

    finaly some one makes a game thats not all about battleground PvP and no glory in holding a fort for your guild/clan (if you now dont count the really old MMOs that still kick every new MMOs butt aka DaoC and Planetside)

    We'll see how it goes but I do hope it goes well so we can have something other than fantasy for a change of pace.

    You know of course what that means, 3 am raids etc, etc, basically a 24 hour game.  Sorry no thanks, most of us have a real life to live.

    Please don't kill my favorite game series by adding the trappings of "MMORPGs" to what to me, is hands down the best FPS mechanics ever.

    I loved Tribes 2 and I like Tribes Vengeance before all the aimbotting and speedhacks and Vivendi not even delivering a full product after charging full price for the going retail rate of games.

    The Tribes series of games is my all time favorite, but I won't be playing if they add in some BS stats and grinding to be able to have the load outs that you want.

    Tribes meets planetside... I love this, Hi-Rez is the company to pull this off, I'm glad they got the IP and the willpower to do this.  Tribes was the game that got me into the realm of online gaming, so this is a big nostalgia moment for me as well!

    I'm really excited to see how this turns out,  I guess I'll have access to alpha and Beta testing,  in some form or another,  so that will be kinda cool.

    I love the way GA plays,  I just hope they pull this through and minimize hacks as well.  On a game like this, hacking can really destroy the longevity of a playerbase.

    Ultimately this is what I've been wanting for a long time now.  As obscure as this announcement was, this has the potential to put a major dent in some of the larger titles I was looking forward to.

    This has alot of potential to be either very, very good, or extremely bad. Definitely one to keep an eye on though.

     if its Hi-Rez Studios thats making the game im sure they will put in the same system that GA has on when zones can be caped so no 3am raids.

    Very awesome.  I am happy with Global Agenda and how far it has come since it released.

    It could have easily gone the way of APB, but they stuck it out, listened to players, and made changes based on that.

    The company is looking good and I am very much enjoying the way the are handling Global Agenda, so I have high hopes for Tribes, as I have always loved tribes.

    Now to finish getting my guy to 50 in Global Agenda..

    I don't see them adding much RPG elements. Seeing as they are creating a new game it makes sense to differentiate it from GA. Also Hi-Rez is very active against aimbots and hacking...more so than any company other i know of.

    They are doing the smart thing imo. They realise a lot of people want a proper MMOFPS but that a lot of people like GA how it is. Instead of trying to change GA into a jack of all trades game it can now focus on what it does best (small scall team based gameplay) while TU will focus on its own strengths (large scale persistant warfare).

    Wow, some unprecedented positivity simply because of the IP? Where's all the "Oh, well GA was a good game and all but I didn't like it"? Or perhaps "Hi-Rez is a good developer? They have a mediocre, mostly instanced F2P MMO - I wouldn't call them 'good'"?

    I guess it's all hope at this point; the negativity will come later, lol. I like Hi-Rez and think they can pull something like this off nicely.

    If any of you tribes fanboys want to buy Global Agenda so you can get into the Alpha they have a halloween special going on right now for 30% off, and I have some 30% coupons listed below you can use for a total of 60% off, ie. less than 15 bucks.  If someone has used a code just try the next one.  The game is fun so it's really not a bad deal.

    I liked GA, but it always felt like Tribes light...  It clearly has some flaws, and it seems Hi-Rez did a good job at fixing this.  I must give them prompts with their marketing campaign.  The "No Elves" worked great and definately got allot to buy it.

    Starseige Tribes was a hugely over budget, crazed monster that ended up getting the entire development team fired.  In the wake of this the company who owned it basically abandoned the game and IP (almost out of spite).  So much drama... But they did produce the best FPS ever. (Opinion), and in that they will simply never be able to live up to the people who dedicated the years of their lives to it.  (Hey it got me through collage).

    I am excited to see the IP get a new lease.  I wish someone will come out with Starseige Tribes 2.0... Just improve all of the graphics, and take it out of abandon ware.  Next Tribes is great, but for the first time ever, the server list is dropping fast:(

    If they do not have generators (possibly multiple aka shield generator) and other 2ndary targets, Vehicles and the huge 64 player battles with freedom of movement on large maps beign key, then I will be disapointed.  The balance in Tribes 2 was unbeleivable, making taking out the 2nd objectives almost (if not as) important as grabing the flag.

    I wish Hi-Rez luck, a whole new generation could come and enjoy what so many of us had come to love in the original.
