Been there, Done that!!!
Someone who takes the game pritty seriously and plays ALOT...and i mean ALOT lol but more or less its about how much time theyre putting in.. As in 8-20 hours a day .
Believing in miracles is good, but don't depend on it.
"Hardcore gamer" is a self proclaimed title, and in being that, menas absolutly nothing. No one ever say about another person "Hey, you know Urkel, he is a real hardcore gamer"... Nope.. People only use that about themselves to, in some obscure way, give more weight to their ramblings... As if giving yourself that title would mean you know more than others....
What they mean by that is "Hey, I play games a lot, and... do not do much else" I would never trust one of them to have any part in game design, since they think an imaginary self proclaimed title is all you need instead of experience in something real, like... an education.
I played my first arcade game when I was 8 years old and ran away from home to go to an arcade to play all the amazing games... That was 1973. Since then I have been playing games constantly and had all the video games throguh the eightees and ninetees except the Vectrex and CBS Home system, and all computers except the Philips and the Texas Instruments. I work with 3D Studio Max, I have modded games from Marathon on Mac to Half Life on PC, I have made stuff for Fasa Interactive and the Mechwarrior series and took 3D lessons from a modeller of Battlefield 1942.
Hardcore..? Not at all, I just like games.. But thing is, I KNOW games... I do not just play them a lot.
Now someone can come and call themselves hardcore because they just had a play session longer than 24 hours ( I did that in the ninetees with Railroad Tycoon first time. When I had a few beers, people turned into trains...). It really... and I mean really.. carry no weight at all.
DO something, do not just call yourself something.
"This is not a game to be tossed aside lightly.
It should be thrown with great force"
Hmmm... I don't know maybe because of the time you spend in gaming and how fast you can finish a game. for me that's an hardcore gamer
To me, a hardcore gamer is someone who plays the game way beyond the average gamer - at least 4 hours a day, imo. Their purpose for playing the game isn't to quest, necessarily, or enjoy the journey, but rather to be one of the first top level characters in the game and get to the end content. They don't evaluate whether to take a quest based on fun factor, but rather the reward for completion - XP and loot. They strive to be the best in the game, having the best equipment, being at the highest level, and being the first to get there.
They are also typically PvPers. They think they are the best PvPer in the game, and get extremely upset if another class beats them occasionally. They'll scream NERF if they don't feel they are the strongest in the game. If the game doesn't have classes, they'll min/max their abilities to try to make themselves nearly invincible.
Before you flame me, this is just what comes to my mind when I hear the term "hardcore gamer". It's purely stereotype, I know.
i started out gaming a long time ago and still do it. dont really have time for games that much anymore though just play them if im home for a bit im usually at work, out, or sleeping though
